What killed the hype?

What killed the hype?

The realization that it was still being directed by Sakurai.

The fact that there is zero news on it so far.

How do you get hyped for a port?

Modern Nintendo

low iq spotted

The fact that they don't add characters from the main nintendo franchises anymore, it is just a clusterfuck of muh 90's nostalgia now

>still dozens of Smash threads daily

I'd actually be happier with less discussion considering all we have to go on are a single newcomer and new Link default, which literally everyone had already predicted.

That's wrong and you're retarded.

t. memeing retard

That's factually incorrect.

If stupid shit like Rayman and Crash seriously get in the game then yeah, Smash has lost all identity and you have the right to say that.
As it is now though you're a retard.

4 was just more of the same without adding its own flare like the other games and the combat made each character feel much less distinct.

This. I hated how that gave so many people the same x-throw into up-air combo, and then back-air kill move. And then it was still too floaty for moving around as anyone that wasn't the really fast characters to feel satisfying.

>the combat made each character feel much less distinct.
Dunno man, most newcomers had a pretty gimmicky playstyle.

All the meleeautist and rosterfag asstears have been amazing

but there wasn't variation in their movements and specials only count for so much, also

>and the combat made each character feel much less distinct
That's just untrue. All of the new characters have way more interesting and unique playstyles than the previous characters

It's not funny anymore
A MAN LOST HIS JOB

You're still stuck to the same sort of counters and strategies in every fight though.
Melee and Brawl to an extent allowed for much more freedom of movement, but the physics of this game deny that entirely.

Literally the first confimed newcomer is from a 3year old franchise

The fact that we essentially have nothing to go by besides "Hey, we're working on something."

Might as well ask why metroid 4 is dead in the water.

>Brawl allowed for much more freedom of movement

Dunno, Duck Hunt played a lot different from Pacman or Megaman.

>Brawl to an extent allowed for much more freedom of move-
>*trips*

What?

>Hype is dead

What?

DLC content killed smash for me. I refuse to play full price games with DLC because I feel like I'm not getting my moneys worth. obviously I make exceptions for legitimate expansion packs but DLC is basically a scam to inflate the price of the product and I don't support it.

Brawl was literally just a slower version of melee without all the game breaking "techniques".
By that fact, there is some freedom of movement.

>Brawl was literally just a slower version of melee
How retarded can one poster be?

theres 6 threads up on Sup Forums right now and we've had no info besides that it'll exist

Their basic movesets were the same, but what you did with them was too homogenized. Same issue that DB FighterZ has.

>slight changes to more intricate mechanics that don't add up to much
>muh tripping
As much as you hate Brawl, it is not as far from Melee as you think.

The game had like 51 fucking characters at launch, and you're complaining because of post-launch content that they didn't have to make? Get a grip, or just don't buy the DLC..

That's the exact opposite of what they do, and it's a big problem. They ignore a lot of classic shit that isn't super retro.

Cry more sonyfag

>killed the hype

You mean a minimum of 5 threads on the front page at any given time is not hype?

the smash ballot got people hyped to an unfair degree being behind shitty characters like Shantae and Shovel Knight. If Corrin didn't steal a slot it wouldn't have been such a let down

Smash has always sold itself by being an intriguingly technical party game and a sensationally casted fighting game, but the former has always taken a back seat to the latter. Now Smash has escalated to the point that it is becoming increasingly difficult to top the last sensational addition.

At this point it would take extremely niche characters such as indie protags, non video-game characters, or a redefinition of the crossover premise (think MvC) in order to actually stir the pot. The other possible route is setting itself apart from SSB4 with demonstrably more enticing gameplay.

Because the last two games played like shit. While everyone is hyped for roster speculation, most people already know the gameplay is still going to be floaty trash.
