Which playstation FF is best?
Which playstation FF is best?
IX or tactics
Tactics
What his senpai said, but honestly they're all fun so don't think you should avoid the others. The weakest is 8 but it's flaws are mostly trying a bit too hard with it's story and then having it get out of hand.
That and it's reeaalll easy to break the combat system.
Tactics
As much shit as they all get from people , except maybe tactics , I don't think anyone shits on tactics. They are all good in their own way
>Tactics
9 for me i didn't care for 7 or 8
ix is best ff on any system
9 or Tactics IMO. 7 very close behind.
Most of the time the shitting on tactics comes from it being on the "easy" side.
While yeah compared to games that came after it totally, but if you've never played it let alone another grid rpg you'll still see challenge aplenty.
>Dude what if we made literally half the cast be inconsequential to the story
>Dude what if we made multiple cutscenes where the main character has no idea what's going on and just stands in the background while people who matter speak
>Dude what if we made a character who's literally just a random girl off the street
>Dude what if we made a character with an interesting and nuanced backstory and then only let the player use him in one dungeon, at the end of which he dies
>Dude what if we made a villain who has zero emotional connection to the heroes and doesn't even meet them until the last ten minutes
>Dude what if we took an established setting with a million interesting species and then only included humans and bunny humans as playable characters
>Dude what if we gave the narrator a comical Apu accent
>Dude what if we made a complicated political plot and then ruined it by turning it into standard ancient god shenanigans halfway through
>Dude what if we made a plot where the heroes have almost no impact on what happens until 95% of the way through the story, and they spend their time tromping from one ancient temple to the next
>Dude what if I'm Captain Basch
>Dude what if we took everything 100% seriously and had zero levity outside of Balthier and Cid
>Dude what if we wrote all of the dialogue to sound like a Renaissance Fair
>Dude what if we we had no overworld and all travel was handled by a menu or floating teleport crystals
>Dude what if we made a battle system where you set everything up in advance so that you don't actually play the game
>Dude what if we made a level-up system where all of the characters become literally identical in function
>Dude what if we made summons useless except for opening doors
>Dude what if we put all of the interesting and unique content in sidequests
>Dude what if instead of having fun side games like the motorcycle chase and Triple Triad we had nothing
>Dude what if we had really shitty music
Yes? Is there a problem?
That's PS2, champ.
Tactics > 9 > 7 > Chocobos Dungeon > Ergheiz > 8
It's overrated
Not VIII, that's for sure.
Tactics > VII > IX > VIII
>he thinks Vaan is the MC
Brainlet
Tictacs. On the other hand, if we start taking mods into account it's clearly VII.
>Ehrgeiz
That's great to hear, man. But just because you think it's overrated doesn't change my opinion of it.
Maybe it is, but there's little doubt out of the PSX generation it's above the rest in gameplay and story. Plus no furries.
Never played 7, where should i play it? ps4, pc, emulator?
>Gameplay
>Good
Also the story is just a generic "appears to be political intrigue but actually some sort of supernatural being is behind everything" story
Tactics > 9 > 7 >>> 8
Fpbp
Must speak volumes to the quality of VII, VIII, and IX if something with bad gameplay and a predictable story is superior to all three.
Emulator, will be the same as if on PS4 and with PC you gotta fuck with the music files to unfuck them back to normal.
Or maybe that's just original PC release. Either way emulation is fine, like most PS1 games.
To be fair, a lot of these can apply to most FF games.
Basically, every single one of the originals playstations ones
PS1-era is the Golden age of the Final Fantasy series
>Dude what if we were this autistic?
Have you ever played the games?
Yes, that is why I can speak assuredly of their quality having played all four of them to completion.
Well I guess we'll chalk it up to shit taste then
for me, it's saga frontier ii
Started it recently, the backgrounds are beautiful
pretty much. it was the only time when the games had mainstream normie appeal because "dude those graphics are like moovie xD"
Playstation 2 isn't Playstation? Also, I'm going to say Chrono Cross. Since it was basically what FFVIII should have been.
>saga frontier ii
*blocks your path*
7, tactics, then 8 and 9
you know what he meant, faggot
Must be a contrarian to not acknowledge that Tactics is the superior PSX game.
VII. Haven't played Tactics yet, and won't for a while, but I severely doubt it'll surpass it, because I hate dealing with position strategy, especially grids.
Tactics is a horrible tactics game, even without the Final Fantasy brand attached to it. Tons of Tactics games since have improved upon the genre. It's story has a weak start and turns into generic Final Fantasy tropes not even halfway through. The character designs are "all the same shit" more than any Tales or Dragon Quest game, yet gets a pass because of nostalgia goggles. The game has a plethora of horrible coding issues. And the game has not one but two bad translations.
About all it has is a good class system and music. I seriously don't see how people can obsess over it beyond nostalgia.
contrarians are beyond belief.
Tactics > IX > VII > VIII
VIII is decent, the rest are all very good.
Tactics is in fact a good tactics game, there is some semblance of unit balance, with challenging map layouts that do not lend themselves to simple brute forcing with one OP unit. The story has a subtle start, and twist of delving deeper into why a conflict has come to be and who is manipulating it with some interesting allegory on the side. The designs are pretty conservative that lend themselves well to their sprite forms, and don't get or need a pass. The translations while the original is rough, and the PSP version very liberal with the old tongue are fine with little loss of the story or dialogue.
It has plenty good to it, and I don't see how you can say Tactics gets nostalgia points but not VII, VIII, and IX when they're all from the same generation with less than 5 years between the release of VII and IX.
>Tactics is in fact a good tactics game
Just the fact that you have to point your character in a direction to attack or block but also can't alter your choice before passing the turn makes it bad. Nearly every tactics game made after it fixed this problem. There's plenty of others as well.
>there is some semblance of unit balance, with challenging map layouts that do not lend themselves to simple brute forcing with one OP unit.
The majority of the reason the game is challenging is not because of the map layout but how limiting your options are, with one example explained above. But still, you can easily just use the plethora of tricks people have known since the late 90s to cheese the game and make your characters overpowered. Or just one character.
>and I don't see how you can say Tactics gets nostalgia points but not VII, VIII, and IX
When did I say those don't? Especially since I said Tactics is tied to the hype of the FF brand which those are also tied to (and the primary reason for).
