Sup Forums please educate me on Touhou. I love bullet hell and shmup games but I've never delved into this series.
Are the PS4 games any good? They seem to be all over the place as far as genre etc....
What should I start with? Where can I find them?

PS4 games are just official fighting games and some fangames. All the shoot'em ups are on PC.
Start with the 6th game, Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. 16th game is available on Steam, but the rest should be downloaded from elsewhere.

PS4 games are fangames and range from trash to surprisingly competent. As for the mainline games, what I did was grab a torrent of all of them off of nyaa and fooled around till I found one I wanted to git gud at. In spite of what I said above you could try asking in /jp/ or in the 2hu general if you want more in-depth takes
I would greatly suggest starting with 6, Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. You should also download 7 and 8, and try them out. 6 is old enough to have some issues, so if you have bugs i'd just stick with 7 until you are invested enough to download whatever patches fix 6. I know mine didn't work at first, but it seems to work fine for most people. Stuff like unlimited framerate and movement issues.
You can get them all free from moriyashrine.org, which is a really nice website for touhou games and side stuff.
I wouldn't bother with the ps4 stuff until you like the series, no bullethells for ps4 as of now.
Most touhou discussion occurs on /jp/ by the way, which is pretty much exclusively a touhou board.

Getting into Touhou and wanted to know which extra stages people think are the easiest/hardest (Phantasm Stage counts)
Ran was the first extra I ever beat, I also feel its the most manageable
I've been on Flandre for the past day and a half and just wanted to know how she fairs compared to the rest of the extra or I'm just bad as she is my first extra stage.
Touhou shmups are baby bullethells with dull, repetitive aesthetics that reuse like 90% of their bullet patterns from game to game. Never really understood the love for them. Were they most people's first bullethell titles or something?
Don't get me wrong, they're not awful, just there's so many others that I'd rather play
flandre is relatively difficult. i think the order of extra difficulty goes something like
ran < okina < suwako < mokou < nue < flandre < yukari < mamizou < koishi < raiko < hecatia
so you're not doing too bad doing flandre first.
Lurk /2hug/ and /jp/ for 3 (three) years. Watch walkthroughs of every game. Read every wikipage. This is the only way.

once you beat flandre, you will find 7-10 to be much less difficult im sure! but i'm not certain you want to continue to go in order and fight koishi that early. It's a strange fight for sure.

Battle Garegga would be the most famous on PS4 by far. Not my favorite but it's considered to be one of the most famous shmups of all time for a reason.

PS4 has some, Steam has a good selection nowadays. You can get Crimzon Clover on sale hella cheap usually on it. Xbox 360 and Dreamcast have the biggest libraries for consoles.

user isaac is literally the definition of a "shmup-roguelike" that held so dearly
Touhou series is really easy as compared to non bullet hell shmups like raiden dx, 19xx and psikyo shmups but last stage of almost all touhou is really hard as fuck. touhou has super small hitbox that really helps, generally as compared to other arcade shmups that just wont even let you get past second stage its not like that, difficulty gradually increases in touhou series, I think that's a plus.
