How's your game coming along, Sup Forums?

...you ARE making a game, right?

I want to learn how to code in C# I don't know where to start or what tutorials teaches you the best way.

Start with Godot

Attached: godotpepe.jpg (600x577, 32K)

Download visual studio and start doing console apps

>tfw I decided for all my animations to be handrawn and it's too late to turn back now

unity 2d, gamemaker or godot for a sidescroller with z axis

old school arcade games were hand drawn too, they filled in little squares on graph paper and scanned them into computers

just don't kill yourself trying to animate everything on the 1s and you should be fine friend

Coming along extremely slowly because laziness and uni, I know there are other bn fangames but I intend to just build up an engine from which I can make my own game.

this
i used to like animating and now it's my least favorite thing

I watched a couple free classes on 3Dbuzz and tried modifying other people's code to begin with.
Its easy to pick up really, the real difficulty comes from staying motivated.

I'm waiting for AI that can make my game for me from my instructions.

Do you already have fully functioning game engine? Changing art style at this point isn't that problematic.

How does one make a rougelike

"hand drawn" is only so descriptive. we don't know what his art style is

for all we know he could be talking about stick figures drawn on notebook paper

A visual novel if that counts.

Pick an engine. Don't worry if you don't know much about it. Determine what you want on a base level in terms of a roguelike. Do you just want a mayhem of generation or something like each level or area will have a specific kind of thing going for it?

It's coming. Beta should be out in a few weeks so that'll be neat.

If you want to do some fun shadow puppet style stuff I found a neat tutorial.

I want to create an Isometric Cityscape and a somewhat detailed physics simulation

I like the art style.
Can you tell me more about your game, user?

What's the point in trying? I can't do anything. I already know I'll never succeed.

He said it's too late but it's never too late if you are already in content creation phase.

Fuck off Shinji

Then get the fuck out, loser. Your aura of failure might rub off on us.

That would give me a lot of pleasure.

Thanks. It's a JRPG about a comatose girl confronting her inner nightmares in order to wake up. Talks about shit like depression, anxiety, suicide, etc. and weaves them into the level design itself.

whatever comes out of you "trying" will be better than the miserable state you're currently in

I wish I could code, I've tried to get into programming before but I can't seem to wrap my brain around what I need to know.
If I could I would make a part VN, part base management with an in depth character creation system.

I only have option to turn music on or off, not sounds. How much are people going to hate me?

That looks pretty good so far. I also like on how the floor is transparent.

None of your games will get finished because most of you work alone. The few that make it just cause more survivorship bias on the deluded

I've tried Lynda courses. Most are 1-4 hours, Learning Paths are 18+ hours. The intro to programming starts with JavaScript.

Statistically speaking solo indie projects have a better chance of working out than trying to get a team together

I have turned game music off several times, most of the time was just to listen my friends on the mic better. But sounds?
Is there a reason to mute those?
Considering they're part of the game mechanics feedback.

That was my reasoning. SFX are important and when I want to adjust volume I use my computer, not ingame settings.

Filling out my facebook/twitter page and trying to come up with a tagline. What do you guys think of 'just like grandpa used to play?' I think its funny but my friends hate it. Basically just need to integrate my script and the game is ready for release.

Honestly start out with web development, move on to javascript and then if you have a grasp basic programming from there then try out C# with unity/godot.

Honestly just outright learning game programming is a dumb as fuck idea, it's difficult to learn a language when you have to learn the game engine's api at the same time.

>Honestly just outright learning game programming is a dumb as fuck idea
no its not
game frameworks aren't hard to learn
you don't need to waste your time on web programming

Team projects are even worse in this regard. There have been a few successful indie solo devs but I literally can't think of a single indie team effort. To assemble a team you need to be able to pay them or they will most likely fall apart. And getting people to join your 1-man studio without a successful sale and work on YOUR vision is just not going to work.

I'm retooling some code I found on GitHub for good jump physics in Unity.
There's so much reading to do.

game engines aren't difficult to learn if you already know how to program, learning both an engine and a language at the same time is going to crush your productivity and the amount of time between getting results is going to be long.

I'm designing a game where you build an ethnostate for cute traps. What should I put in it?

its very easy to get something up and running in unity or gamemaker

Bruce Willis.

is being a faggot an ethnicity now?

no shit, but it's hard to do anything more than that.

Whenever you are learning a language you are also learning an API.
I started out with C++ and Bjarne's Stroutsoup introduction to C++. I did not have any previous knowledge of programming or computer science, so my background was lackluster but you do learn the building blocks of how to program.
Jumping to C# on unity took me a few hours after that, because it's the same, you just have to check what differences are for writing statements and other stuff.
Doing good programs, is another thing. As an example, I did not know anything about algorithms or vector math, I did most of the exercises using trigonometry, which is not that optimized for code, so for a game it would not work that well.
That, you need to learn from other sources, but to learn a language, just get a book or intro to the language learning source.
Maybe check on openMIT courses, can be dense but they are also free.

Traps that go out and trick shotas from other countries to join the ethnostate

This is why I don't give a shit about indie games anymore. Muh feelings. Muh depression. Why the fuck does everybody who has ever gotten sad think they have some sort of insight into the essence of humanity and thinks it'll be compelling?
Fucking gay.

Because people going through it like to know they're not alone.

yes

Have to agree with your friends. If the game is retro in style or aesthetic, let that do the talking. As soon as you make that a selling point you open the door to being called a charlatan and criticism about how period inaccurate x or y is.
It'll puss off more people than it delights, like steam punk. Don't be steampunk.

How do I start?

well web programming isn't going to help you with that, you learn to program games by programming games, modern game negines make it easy to get started

>just like grandpa used to play
I like it.
Does it fit your game is the real question, though.

The reason I was a bit iffy is the self awareness would have been out of place, but I see your point.

>1 trillion tris

nice

Cry me a river, bitchtits. A good game that discusses the subjects might help people who suffer from them

Good luck with that, user!

because gamedevs all have mental illnesses

2D platformer set in the 30s with design modelled on Castlevania/Donkey Kong Country. Other user is right, its a bit obnoxious. Might still work for advertising like this though.

How do I learn programming?

Looks cute as fuck. Keep going, nigga

Show me the research to confirm that. Already a saturated market. Every dumb shit teenager who self diagnoses with anxiety and depression because they don't know what they're doing or they're a bit shit at talking to people think they should write an rpg or a short story about how they feel, because the fashionable self pitying climate around the illness is one of absolute acceptance to the point of revelling, and yet with everybody being so okay with this destructive cult illness, they still think they're all alone and that nobody cares because a large component is narcissism, the same kind that drives people to think they're qualified to talk about it.

Stop fetishising your misery. People pushing this depression porn do not want others to get better. If you want to help or connect with people, stress the importance of goals and routines for escaping, don't write some trite chuuni story about a sad mammal who doesn't want to exist. I reiterate, fucking gay.

Give me an idea Sup Forums.

cute girl catching bugs

That's a sexostate

And even then you’ll be too lazy.

All I know is once a year I get super miserable and alone, and I watch Lethal Weapon over the course of a week. I feel better when Riggs does. Misery porn helps me and a lot of other people. Exercise and meds helps people too. Some people try goals and routines and feel even worse when they fail. Is not one size fits all.

Holy shit, who made the cover art?

Myself, looked at an online guide for how to paint like Struzan, also have a background in comics. Apart from some screaming sound effects the whole thing is one man army.

taken like 4 classes at uni teaching programming but never done anything game coding related
don't know how to model any kind of 3d shapes or objects
don't know how to draw or animate anything
came up with specific scenes/ events I'd like to see but having a difficult time connecting all the pieces
planned out a basic story at first but couldn't decide on a protagonist out of all the characters so can't do that right
better off I just stick with saving money in my dead end job for me to buy a gun and end it or rob a bank or something

gas chambers, ovens and mass graves

making teef

any niggers want 3d models? I'll try to make it if you send the concept art.

That sounds fucking terrible dude,

Wallowing doesn't help people, it makes you feel okay about doing nothing about it, and sure, maybe that's necessary to stay sane once in a while, but I'm really sick if this culture of celebrating a chemical imbalance. "I guess I'm just a broken human, oh look, theres a whole world full of broken people, oh hey look we have support groups and every single webcomic is about that feel when crippling anxiety haha, I guess it helps a bit but nobody REALLY gets how I feel because it's special and no one solution fits the complex, mysterious version of it I have."

So yeah, incubate the ill, keep them tangled up in the weird mourning and celebration of their temporarily malfunctioning brain. But the more comfortable these people get with staying in that state, the harder it's going to hit when society stops singing along.

Not him but I'm stealing this idea

I'm pretty sure you just answered your own question. The cover art just looks like a bit crushed photo of a guy, and even if it's actually hand drawn it looks like a doctored photo because it doesn't stray from reality.

I give up

It’s getting there

Props man, it looks fantastic

been programming for around five years and started playing around with unity in the last couple of days. thinking of making an age of empires like game just as a hobby. unity basics are easy enough and movement is simple in a game like this, the hard part is going to be all the models because i'm a complete noob with blender or any visual design for that matter. i think in aoe2 they rendered 3d models into 2d sprites, my game is going to be 3d with a fixed camera on the x and z axis. with a similar height and rotation it should feel like aoe.

probably will never finish it but i'm enjoying playing around with it. if i didn't have a job i'd probably spend more time on it

make baby steps

baby steps on no progress is still no progress

elaborate

Attached: 1516573475552.png (640x466, 123K)

why would anyone draw Tao doing this

pure sacrilege

Attached: 1518154655498.jpg (345x309, 34K)

No more zero days. If you charge yourself with having to make some sort of progress every day, even just a mental checkbox that gets ticked the second you edit a single file, you'll get there.
Sure you can just open, type something and erase it to get that box checked but you interacted with it.

all cats shit user

Reminder that you shouldn't be making a 3D game unless you're prepared to actually learn 3D art.

acknowledging other people's problems doesn't make them not want to be cured of their depression, it just makes it suck a little less. If you can't understand it then just ignore it, nobody is asking you to play along.

Tfw I've been up drinking and cutting all night
Feels good man

reminder that your better off finding help rather than doing everything yourself

literally no one will help a random solo indiedev

If you can't at the very least develop the core art direction of your game, you're an utterly worthless idiot and shouldn't be gamedevving.

>if you can't understand it
There we go, that's what I was looking for. Thank you for proving my point, cultist.

I would
