Why did they put the dpad on the leftside?
Why did they put the dpad on the leftside?
Why not?
Atari joystick was held with left hand, same with coleco vision and arcade machines
because fat cunt said so
bullshit, on the atari you held the joystick with your right hand and pressed the button with your left
But why
Because for the predominant right hand crowd you wouldn’t want to use the dpad on your good hand when moving around is second nature to making actual button decisions.
>muh because most people are right handed
Do left-handed people have problems using controllers?
I don’t know why don’t you ask the three people in your city
I'm left-handed and the only left-handed things I do are writing and wanking.
This. Being left handed I feel gives you an advantage in fighters because movement is so important in them.
This
Why did they put the arrows on the rightside?
The timing of pressing the action buttons is most important, so most people should use their right hand for that.
Movement controls are more broad, so most people should use their left hand for that.
No
In fact it makes sense to use your dominant hand for the task you most frequently do, which is movement
The real question is why the numpad is on the right side.
It shouldn't be a gimmick to be able to use you mouse and crunch numbers simultaneously comfortably
What I really don't understand is why the numpad has no backspace/clear key of its own.
You are already wrong with regard to fighting games.
In fighting games, hitting the button always makes the same move come out no matter the strength of the press.
Meanwhile, movement in most fighters very much depends on strength of input. In KOF a tap on the D-pad will give you a hop while really pressing the buttons will give you a jump.
Even in Smash which is not a real fighter the buttons always do the same things, but movement/SHFFL is way more important.
OP asked why they put the d-pad on the left side of the NES controller. Fighting games didn't even exist when the NES was released.
Normal controllers never game me issues. Now, the Wii remote, that shit threw me off.
The point is what he's saying isn't universally right and what's required for each side of the controller can vary from game to game.
This and scissors.
Handedness is a fucking meme. There are no lefty or righty violins. You play with both hands on the piano. You can learn to do anything to the same level on both hands if you practice it. It has no bearing on your skill ceiling in the activity.
But the question was why the Dpad is on the left side for the NES. Did you fall on your head as a child?
This and punching the wall because I want to hurt myself just as much as I want to hurt something
baloon fight is a fighting game
I understand that. I'm saying that for the majority of games the d-pad is better on the left side.
it does
*peter molyneux joke*
BUT, HELLAW YOU! IM GRU LARRY! AND WELCOM TO FAT CUNT
No, in fact the whole business around left and right hand activities is not set in stone with anyone. It really comes down to what is dominant for you. I mean I write, kick a football, throw, use gold clubs with the left side of my body but I when it comes to piano and guitar I'm dominat on the right. Personally I'm glad the industry stuck to this standard early, the Atari Lynx is the only machine I can think of that really experimented with having controls for both left and right handed people and thankfully died quickly back then.
Might be something to do with most arcade machines doing it at the time and Nintendo followed suit.
