That's absurd. There's no leveling up nor even crafting or weapons upgrades in the first.

>RPG

Yeah, just like how Overwatch is an RPG because you PLAY as a ROLE in a GAME.

Anyways, the action ramped up in 2 because there's enough ammo to kill everything in that game twice+ over. People who blame 4 for actionizing the series have never actually played the original games, they just watch LPs.

Nope. Resident Evil is a giant puzzle game cut into small puzzles.

This is bullshit. The first time I played RE2 (back in 1997-98) I had no idea how the game worked and I ran out of ammo when I reached the second floor of the police station (even when I picked up everything, including the gun shop dude's shotgun).

Then apparently you just fucking suck

there is nothing rpg about any of the first couple REs

i havent played the rest

also op is a fag and his mom a whore

Way to miss the point, user.

Yes it did ramp up the action I'm with you there. It was even marketed as such in a way

But it was still survival horror at its core. While more linear than the first, it wasn't near as bad as 4 or anything after. Plus you still had inventory management, no autosaves, etc. The ammo complaint is justified. Imo the game nails everything except for the fact it is the easiest of the classics. Both 1 and 3 had Hard Mode difficulties, while 2 only gave the player Easy and Normal.

> it's an horror game
> you have to survive on it

>literally the series that started survival horror
>It's not survival horror

>RPG
user, no.
You're getting RE mixed up with Parasite Eve

>yfw Dino Crisis is actually difficult
>yfw Dino Crisis actually presents a real paucity of ammo and difficult decisions whether to kill that enemy or run past it
>yfw Dino Crisis actually has difficult enemy encounters
>yfw Dino Crisis actually makes you terrified to die because of how hard it punishes you
>yfw Dino Crisis is actually everything that Resident Evil claimed that it was

It’s no silent hill

It was at its best when it reveled in the irony(but not too much so that it’s sucking it’s own cock) and decent gameplay. >see Resident evil 4
Everything before was so comedically bad that we’re were acceptable while the ones after it plain sucked.
7 did an admirable job until around the end where it became resident evil 5.
Overall, I blame the west for being as subtle with their horror as they are with their comedy.

You make a great point. The puzzles were much more challenging on average, too.

>Doesn't know what rpg means

OP if you're trying to actually convince us of this you can't just make the assertion. You must also defend your claim with evidence and reasoning.

Resident Evil 1 literally invented the genre of survival horror.

>literally the series that started survival horror
no, It was alone in the dark, dear underage user.

i'll agree that there are some rpg elements (better weapons and stronger enemies). this becomes more obvious in the later games when you can upgrade your weapons with earned currency.

Are the resident evil novels good ?
I just ordered City Of The dead and nemesis for super cheap and there was no other RE thread i could ask this In.

Noooooooooooo. No no no fucking no.

But their just adaptions Of The game right ?
At least the ones I ordered, they can't be terrible can they ?

They're pretty bad bro. Cool novelty item though.

No, that was Alone in the Dark that the nips ripped off.

Alone in the Dark is not a survival horror game, it's an adventure game. A precursor, sure, but not the same genre.

That's like calling Adventure for the 2600 an RPG.

I guess FNAF is a survival horror game too, right? I mean you have to survive to win, and it is a horror game...

Explain what makes Resident Evil 1 a Survival Horror game and doesn't make Alone in the Dark. I never played FNAF.

A survival horror game needs a lot of combat, which Alone in the Dark lacks. You can fight in Alone in the Dark but most enemies are part of a puzzle which needs to be solved to kill it. It has the the inventory management and limited supplies and the puzzles, but not the combat.

Survival horror has a very specific definition, but it has been bastardized by modern indie devs calling any horror game "survival horror."

7 was such great a game up until the end with that piss poor final boss.

>Hey here's a really interesting family house setting, oh look here's a really cool barn and swamp setting.

>Let's throw in a generic tanker ship setting that's been in so many fucking resident evil games already.

>Also let's make the final boss a skilless encounter with no need for any of the weapons you've gathered throughout the whole game.

It's fucked it was such a phone in. The game would of been better if it was just the family that was exposed to the virus and the little girl had nothing to do with it.

It does have combat though, it just doesn't satisfy your arbitrary standards of what a combat should be to qualify for a survival horror. The other post compares to FNAF which is a game that you watch cameras, when RE and AitD both have the exact same tank controls, they even happen in similar settings of a spooky mansion. RE1 also has little adventure elements of puzzle solving, which have been a staple of the series and RE7 has them too.

At the end of the day, video game genres are fucking terrible at actually describing what a game is, as they focus on mechanics rather than tone. Terms like RolePlayingGame and Action/Adventure are fucking useless considering they're so broad.
