Had to be me. Someone else might have gotten it wrong.
Exploration had so much potential in this game. They could have improved it and added content but we got those absolute piles of shit that were the sequels instead.
I'd climb her mountain, if you catch my mass effect field
Aye 'twas the best.
It hurts so much knowing that ME is dead. I dreamed that ME:A would build upon the (relatively) original lore and good character interactions Bioware was known for and create an atmosphere of total desolation and wonder. Ironically, Star Citizen, itself being a train-wreck in the making, succeeded in creating that kind of feeling. Check out the video [starting with 28:44] to see what I mean:

The first ME had the best atmosphere out of all 3.
>femshep
This would have been cool if it was just one planet. Instead, every planet was a barren shitfest. There's only so much dull gameplay that art can make up for, and ME breaks that line very, very early.
This is basically what Andromeda did, reduce the total number of planets in order to have more exploration content on each one. And it worked out pretty well. Too bad the game was terrible otherwise and gamers don't want exploration anyway.
While monotonous describes the planet exploration, resource gathering, and mission structure of ME1 very well, it hit a certain sweet spot that has yet to replaced or replicated properly. It's sad ME has doubled down on all the wrong mechanics, streamlining RPG aspects, removing exploration, shifting atmosphere and then they killed it with MEA, wholeheartedly going "open world" when the best part for MEA were the linear sections at the end.
>every planet was a barren shitfest
every one of the side/exploratory planets yes, i never even do any of those on a playthrough, they were always meant as filler for rpg fans that liked to explore. the main 3 or 4 planets however were done very well, except the one liara was on got rushed or something
nice film grain you piece of shit
AND I NEED YOU TO RECOVER
they should have given you more tools to find the interesting shit among the boring worlds instead of killing it completely. I loved those little UNC missions you found out in the middle of nowhere. My favorite was probably the starship troopers one where you hook up the Mako to the turrents and help the Alliance marines fend off a few waves of rachni. I hate how little exploration there is in the subsequent games.
Are there any cool mods that make it worth playing the first game for the fourth time?

>Those cyberpunk vibes at omega
Holy shit.
Why are there so many DA and ME threads lately?
Not that I'm complaining.
To this day I can't believe the Mako got a bad rap. Bouncing around in it was hysterical.
Snowball effect. Someone makes a thread for some reason, some people get exited about it again, keep making threads.
CUZ I CAN'T MAKE IT ON MY OOOOOWN
i recently played through the first ME and some of the second and i have to say i seriously don't get how the series got SO big
i mean the first one was solid, it was a decent hard sci-fi universe with a neat plot about giant evil space ships
but as a game it was just alright, it was a normal third person shooter with a few neat but janky psy powers
exploring the planets was kinda cool but apparently everyone hated that so they took it out
it was like a 7/10 game and the second just didn't even hook me in enough within the few hours i played for me to keep going, i don't see how it became this epic legendary trilogy that consumed half a decade of everyone's lives, including your average normie fratbro
this blew my mind when i was 16. fucking amazing.
ME2 sold very well, that's when ME became normie cred.
>i recently played through the first ME and some of the second and i have to say i seriously don't get how the series got SO big
You could ponder the same questions about other big franchises like CoD, AC, etc.
>it was a normal third person shooter with a few neat but janky psy powers
Are you ignoring the rpg systems the game had? and only 7/10? It had good soundtrack, good gameplay, good story and good graphics, that's a 8/10 or even 9/10 if the person is generous.
>second just didn't even hook me in enough within the few hours i played for me to keep going
This sets you apart from 95% of people who play these games. The second is a terrible abomination and a total shift from the original vision of the setting but it was the driving force behind all the emotional investment into the series because people love it for some reason. If you don't like Gears of Mass Effect then it's not surprising you don't like the series.
Do you happen to have Amaranthine? It's the gloomy blue planet where you finish the quest with the old woman crimelord.
