Was it really that bad?

Well fuck, I want to know too but no one’s posting.

OP here, it's currently on sale for 50% off, so that's why I made the thread.

It was good but having enemies scale with you was gay

more like I am Fighting Enemies That Scale With Me huh?

Its been on sale a couple of times and it came out a couple of years ago. Why would you think it "failed"?

everything about it was meh. the worst part is the game is literally snow level nonstop with some slow ass piano music that just puts you to sleep.

It's insanely average. You won't like it but you won't hate it. The best thing I can say about I am Setsuna is that it passed time.

Snow levels are the best part of most rpgs faggot.

No, it was worse.

nice shitpost, care to elaborate?

The snow and piano was my favorite part, though.

So, what's left then? A good battle system? That's what I'm liking about it so far

Its not bad, its just boring.

It was a good first game for a new studio. Their second game looks to be more of the same, which is sad. I wanted them to do well.

I am Setsuna was a good first try but it doesn’t look like they changed much for Lost Sphear.

Unfortunately, every game they produce gets compare to Chrono Trigger. Apparently not being on par with what’s widely regarded as one of the best JRPGs of all time automatically makes something shit.

I got disappointed by Lost Sphear too, it looks worse than Setsuna and the demo just gave it away how boring it was. I feel bad for them.

The demo absolutely killed it for me. That was the first time in a long time I played a game and immediately was turned off so hard.

The demo was awful and a terrible job of explaining the mechanics , but the game is actually pretty good. I think its missing some of the charm Setsuna had but its still a pretty solid game.

It is legitimately the most aggressively ok game you will ever play.

It's pretty hard not to compare it to Chrono Trigger when it tries so hard to emulate it, only it ends up being worse.

Take learning techs, for example. You need to kill specific enemies in specific ways from specific places to get specific drops so you can get weapons that will allow you to learn the techs. Compare this to Chrono Trigger, where you simple learn techs at certain levels, and the difference is night and day. It's fun to just level up as you progress in the game, because you get cool new skills, that can be combined with others to make awesome new attacks. There's no grinding and effort to kill things in certain ways to get the techs. You just play the game, and it's great.

This is just one of the things wrong with I am Setsuna, too. The plot and characters are rather bland, the art style looks like a cheap mobile game, it just feels like a ripped off and worse Chrono Trigger overall, there's no level variety, there's lots of enemy recolors, there's no music variety. I honestly don't have much positive to say about the game, I'd rather just replay Chrono Trigger.

I don't care if Sup Forums says that Setsuna is bad, I watch some videos of its gameplay and for me it's pretty good and the OST is gorgeous . I'll buy the game + OST the next Steam sale

this

the snow and piano is nice though

C O M F Y

yep. I didn't even make it 30 minutes before I uninstalled my pirated copy

It shows that some the people at squeenix don't know what the hell they're doing, which isn't surprising since most of the old staff is gone and the new people primarily do port jobs and publishing.

Think about how many jrpgs they've made in the last decade.
That isn't related to final fantasy.
Bravely Default was them tipping their toes in the jrpg genre again to test the waters (and partly to shut up fans that kept asking for a jrpg, thinking theres no market for them even though they and everyone else just kind of stopped making them for no apparent reason) and was baffled by its success.

Octopath Traveler devs actually know what they're doing, and after BD1+2 success the higher ups probably just threw their hands in the air and told the team "fuck it, do whatever you want".

Worth it on the Switch

wait did this shit come out i forgot

It was pretty good, mostly becasue I like surprises/plot twists, and nobody on Sup Forums spoiled any of it since it was released.

Job mixing is going to make Octopath worth it. Before, I figured "Eh, I'll just buy it on sale" but that shit was enough to make me want it full price.
