Why do people call some potential newcomers that aren't non-vidya "meme picks"?(i.e. K. Rool, Decidueye, Bandana Dee, etc.) Is it possible that they have no real argument and are just angry that a character they don't like is popular?

K. Rool and Bandanna Dee aren't really relevant to be in smash, though there a few who spams every thread game with their names. Decidueye is super popular and from the most recent Pokemon, he's not in any chance meme teir.

K. Rool had enough of a following to get his mii costume, and it's one of the better ones in my opinion.

Bandana Dee has been in every Kirby game since RTD, and has always been playable since then when multiplayer is involved. I'd hardly call him irrelevant.

Because you can't seriously look at the rosters up until now and think that Crash, Rayman, Sans, K.Rool, Skull Kid, Shovel Knight, Geno and Bandana Dee fit the bill in any way whatsoever and yet people keep posting them.

Bandanna Dee has never any any focus at all in the games though, nor is he the new flashy thing in the recent game to warrant an inclusion. Though Kirby is Sakurai's baby so anything is possible.

Also it should be obvious but this Smash won't be like last time, there's not enough time for polls etc. Which I think is the strongest argument for the fact that it's a port

I'm optimistic that K Rool was given the mii costume as a stopgap until they had the time/resources to implement him as a full fighter. Recall that Sakurai had the opportunity to put Wario into Melee at the last second but felt he couldn't do him justice, so opted to wait until Brawl came along. Maybe I'm deluded like says, but I'm hopeful that something similar is the case for K Rool.

There is a bandwagon effect, when one character is popular people just get used to the idea of them in Smash, which makes the support even stronger. But there are different levels, as a K. Roolfag I must say that he is pretty legitimate, while other ideas are a lot more meme based, like Sukapon, no one actually likes the character but they started supporting the idea anyway.

One that's stupid is Sceptile, people just noticed the "pattern" and now Sceptile has way more support than the actual popularity of the character would suggest to be reasonable.

Decidueye IS popular though. He's easily the most requested Pokemon rep for Smash Switch if you go to sites like Smashboards and GameFAQS. The only people against Decidueye's inclusion are barafags, Memekyufags, and those who would rather have a Gen 8 rep in Decidueye's place even though it's highly possible that both can happen.

Why do people complain so much about what other characters people want? Yeah for some characters they’re probably not as likely but it’s not wrong to want whoever or whatever playable. I’m sure the people wanting who they want are also aware of the chance that character won’t make it as well. This goes for every single character in general, whether you like or dislike them.

Captain Falcon hasn't appeared in a non-smash game for MORE than a decade.

I hate how Retro keeps forcing their OCs, and there might be a wish in Nintendo to kill off the Kremlin's, but he's legitimate in that he has real, genuine popularity with real potential for being a good character, and not something like Sceptile, which gets almost all of its support just to fulfil some autistic pattern, and not because people actually want the character.

Whilst I’m not a huge undertale fan I think this could work if they added in Sans as part of some kind of “Nindies” DLC pack. Like, add in Sans, Shovel Knight and Quote at the same time. Then he would seem much less out of place and more likely.

Decidueye is guaranteed, arguably K Rool as well because of the memes from smash 4

When the games have nothing in common aside from starring a Toad, then sure. Some people even believe that 'The Toad" in Japan doesn't exist and there wasn't a set Toad character until Galaxy introduced Captain Toad.

I'm just realistic enough to know that Bandana Dee is the most likely Kirby character at this point, considering he's been in every game since SSU and HAL has been pushing him hard and that it's hypocritical for you to call him a goomba when one just needs to look at Paper Mari now to see that that's even more the case for Toad.
I don't see how Captain Toad would even work, whereas Bandana Dee can just use whatever weapons Waddle Dees commonly do (Spear, Parasol, etc).
