Atari platforms were never good, if you wanted to play games in that era you went to the arcade, or played on PC, but PC to a much lesser extent in that era. My cousin had an Atari, it's best game was a poorly made port of Super Mario Bros.

I never really played PC games from that era but Arcades was definitely where it was, you can still pick up and play Arcade games from that era today, can't say the same for Atari games. Even C64 to a lesser extent, then you get into the Nes and Amiga, that's when gaming really came home. at least from what I've played.
