>Brawl was announced 2.5-3 years before being released >Smash 4 (3ds version) was announced 15 months before being released. >Smash 5 announced ~8 months before being released or less.
Even if you think this is a new game instead of a port, do you really want the next Smash to be rushed shit just to steal the sails from the Xbox One Xs and the PS4 Pros?
Or they'll pull a Splatoon 2 and call it a sequel when in reality it's practically an expansion pack. Is this really what you want?
Can someone explain to me why there's so much talk about this? Because I have literally never met anyone who has even mentioned Smash let alone played it even once.
Lucas Hernandez
>rosterfag
Personally I thought Smash 4's roster was too big.
I want them to put more effort into fun stages (not just recycling half the stages from Brawl and then having the nerve to charge 3 dollars from a n64 stage), single player content like a classic mode that isn't just random trophies on a table, and other shit like that
Cooper Stewart
> I have literally never met anyone Of course you didn't
Logan Baker
I couldn't find it, dates back then were vague. If you have it then that'd be great
Chase Rivera
13 months.
Gabriel Taylor
>Is this really what you want? Yes. There's no reason Smash 5 can't have everything from 4 and then some. I don't understand Sup Forums's obssession with replacing content rather than just adding to it when Smash's formula perfectly allows it. As long as there's enough new characters, stages, modes, and a few revisions to the gameplay and previous characters, modes, etc. to justify the price, then what's the problem with the game reusing a few assets?
Aaron Johnson
If they JUST add content, it better be a lot of content, because they will undoubtedly charge 60 dollars for it. If they aren't building the game from the ground up and just releasing an expansion pack as a brand new installment, they better not pull a Splatoon 2 and just add like 6 new maps and one new mode and act like it's a sequel
Chase Carter
If you think the time between the announcement and the release shows the exact development time you're so dumb.
Connor Young
I DON'T CARE I NEED GAMES IN MY SWITCH ANY GAME WILL DO PLEASE
Nathaniel Ross
I just don't want the game to play the same. I already own Smash 4, I can play it whenever I want. If they only add some extra content on top then it's not much of a difference. If they make meaningful changes/additions to the core gameplay then it's fine.
>year 2035 >smash 12 gets announced 16 months after release
Ryder Watson
So guys which month is Smash bros releasing?
Robert Clark
I think it's a strong correlator for sure. Game companies want games announced ASAP to sell consoles. Usually when games are released ~6 months after announcement, they are casual shit like kinect games or labo, or wii minigame party 6 that don't matter much when they are announced because the casual target audience aren't going to build up hype or pay attention 15 months before release

I go to vidya meetups with hundreds of people literally every month. All the fighting game people just play SF.
Tyler Johnson
>people forgetting the release dates for Smash are usually pushed back a few times
Melee announced at E3 and released in November. Checkmate atheist.
Carson Wright
>mfw Nintendo used to be notorious for delaying titles >because they hit the fucking mark last year so hard, people can only comprehend that this game is a port because they cannot grasp that it may be a new game so soon
This is kinda funny to me. It's gonna get delayed tho
>Game companies want games announced ASAP to sell consoles. True, and that especially applies to Smash, but bear in mind that even both Brawl and Smash 4 were announced awfully early to boost their console's sluggish sales. Smash 4 didn't even begin development for months after announcement, and Nintendo had to appologize for it missing E3 because they had literally nothing to show. Smash 5 seems much better planned out. We already have a teaser and the roster seems to already be picked. I think the question now is how exactly they're planning on marketing it. Will we have to wait till E3 for gameplay or are we getting a Smash direct soon? Will we be getting more character teases like the Inklings did in the meanwhile?

>rushed You faggots have been saying this all year now, stop shitposting and get a fucking life
Juan Wright
you know they probably have the game almost complete by this point right? its not like they have to announce it at any specific point in development.
what would they even change? i doubt they'd ever make a game like melee again, smash 4 is basically as good as you're ever gonna get.
Eli Rogers
Its been in development for years you dumb fuck, Sakurai confirmed it.
Axe this thread, this is trash.
Brandon Wilson
At you somehow under the impression that development only started after they announced It? Because going by what little we know this seems to have been in development since 2016, comparable to the amount of time Sm4sh got.
Gavin Morris
>delusional fucks still think it's a new game and not just a port with a couple extra characters
The reason Brawl and Smash 4 have such massive windows between announcement and release is because in BOTH cases, they announced a new Smash Bros. before they even started working on it. Brawl was announced in June 2005, they didn't start work until October. The game released January of 2008. Almost 3 years between announcement and release, but 2 years and three months of development time. Smash 4 was announced in June of 2011, development on the game had not yet even begun because Sakurai was still working on Kid Icarus, it entered full production around when that game launched, which was March of 2012, it then released in September of 2014. 3 years and three months between announcement and release, but 2 years and five months (give or take) of development time. Tack on two months for the Wii U version.
It has been 3 years and a few months since Smash 4 came out. It will likely have been a full 4 years by the time 5 releases. It's possible they were working on this new game simultaneously with doing the DLC for Smash 4, but even if we were to say they weren't, then the soonest this game could have begun development was February of 2016. It has already been 2 years since then, and the game won't release until the end of the year, IF it isn't delayed.
If it comes out in November, then that's either 3 years and about ten months since Smash for Wii U released they could have spent developing the game. or 2 years and about eight months since Smash 4 DLC wrapped up they could have spent developing the game.
In either case, the game would have been in development for longer than either Brawl or Smash 4 despite the early announcements. What's more likely is they took a break between games, meaning the total development time could be closer to that of the previous two games.
For reference, Melee was announced in May of 2001 and released in November of the same year. Even less time than Smash 5.
David Taylor
He was talking about the time between the announcement and release of the games, not how long they've been in development No idea when they announced Melee
Jayden Hernandez
No, IGDA arranges gatherings every month all over the world. I attend every month.

who cares when it's officially announced, we all knew this game would be out for switch eventually. im interested in how long it took from first trailer or in-game material until release. How long was brawl's pic of the day? 3dswiiu?
I think Smash 4 was a week or so after E3 Personally I hope we get weekly video updates this time. Daily pics worked because they didn't have a set release date so they had something to show everyday with no set backs, but already having a target 2018 release means they have a limit to the content they can show. Videos on the other hand lets them still provide updates in an engaging way in a shorter amount of time
Juan Perry
Yes. They need to release Smash this year for its 20th anniversary.
Besides, they're probably gonna pull a Splatoon/Arms thing where they release free content updates over time. It worked well before, so why not do it again?
Blake Sullivan
Bamco is absolutely working on this again and they love their DLC too much to drop it.
Isaiah Carter
Welp pack up guys, this literallywho has got it all figured out.

>fans have a fun time speculating >HAHAHA DELUSIONAL FUCKS WHY CAN'T THEY HATE EVERYTHING LIKE ME bet you think you're actually better than them too
The switch is not much more powerful than the Wii U. I expect them to use at leas thte same engine which should save alot of developement time, especially since they can just copy and adjust movement sets from staple characters this way.
Jose Sanchez
>Smash 4 comes out >uses some Brawl assets >some people joke that it's Brawl 2.0 >they are disregarded
>Smash 5 comes out >uses some Smash 4 assets >WOOOOW LE REHASH >HEHE SWITCHFAGS ON SUICIDE WATCH >YOU'LL LITERALLY NEVER BE ABLE TO TALK ABOUT THIS GAME BECAUSE OF ALL THE SHITPOSTING HAHAHA!
Oh boy, I can't wait.

Even my Dad who hardly plays vidya likes Smash just because he can hit guys as Donkey Kong. I don't believe you.

It's too bad that the law prevents developers from working on games until they're announced
Daniel Lee
>announcement is indicative of development time >Brawl had more time between announcement and release so that makes it better
