voxels

someone post that one doom horror mod

This Or adding filters that simulate pixelation

Attached: hqdefault.jpg (480x360, 11K)

just use low resolution unfiltered textures

3D models with pixel art textures. It's that simple.

Attached: MMLegends-08.png (320x240, 17K)

Octopath Traveler

This. Many old 3D games had good pixel art textures.

I'd really love a mor colorful version of Octopath Traveller. Like with GBC era colors instead of all that brown

They really mastered it with HearGold/SoulSilver. Those are the most AESTHETIC games ever made.

I'm still not exactly sure what parts are 3D and what are sprites

Attached: Goldenrod_City_HGSS.png (1330x885, 305K)

The new Mario & Luigi games do it pretty well. Too bad their artstyle is so sterile now.

Attached: mario-and-luigi-dream-team-3ds-official-screenshots-nintendo-012-470x310@2x.jpg (363x240, 34K)

Too much bloom and depth of field it looks like shit

Attached: Project-Octopath-Traveler-Sprites.jpg (902x507, 78K)

fez, the game is mindful about lining up the object orientation with the camera in specific ways

Visually more interesting than any 2D shit

DT and PJ use sprites while SSS/BIS+ are entirely 2D.

so basically pixelated textures paper mario

Fuck no.
Everything that isn't an NPC or a generic ground/water tile is a model.

I fucking hate Depth of Field in all games, this is the thing I hate the most in console games, the fact that I can't disable it.

More interesting in a "how the fuck did they think this dog vomit looks good" kind of way.

:^)

fromsoft did it better

Attached: 3ddgh-custom_cloud-strife.jpg (800x450, 96K)

what was the point of even making this shit 3D when they just limit you to the exact same camera angle as the original games?

Look at all that blurry shit, who the fuck thought DoF looked good in anything!?

Go back working on your game, you aren't getting my ideas for free.

Not even pixel art textures, just make the textures use few, but pronounced, colors. I will never understand why people wanted to add unnecessary detail to such low res, low quality textures.

Prepping for the future, as they were planning a full 3D pokemon. Good way to get everyone ready and see what needs work before moving on to modeling the pokemon themselves.

Holy shit I never realized Fromsoft did 3d dot game heroes. I remember renting that from the video store and... well shit it was so forgettable I can't remember if I had fun with it or not lol

Voxels are ugly fucking trash.

This. Fuck Voxels.

My question is, when making a game that mixes 3D models and sprites. how do you make sure the pixel resolution matches up pleasingly?

Attached: under2.gif (300x225, 1.97M)

1. low resolution rendering
2. no anti aliasing
3. no sub pixel averaging of colors

Yes, see Breath of Fire III and IV.

Attached: MjDtDh3.gif (320x240, 186K)

also
4. no lighting
5. very limited color palette

Said the retard who likes 2D pixel shit, pixel art is inherently blurry

The issue is how it's implemented, since most 3d models with low poly counts are hideous.

Attached: wip_recycling.png (641x531, 38K)

God damn, I seriously thought the graphics were lifelike and groundbreaking like nearly a decade ago lol

Gorgeous.

If you're doing orthographic projection then you can just scale the view projection matrix evenly, but it's pretty much impossible with perspective projection.

Pokemon Black and White did a great job with it.

Attached: file.jpg (1467x825, 70K)

Is there such a thing as low poly h-games?

Attached: 1438948144720.png (1035x877, 277K)

that's a horrible filter though

Attached: 1411833065233.png (1600x1000, 497K)

I'm sure you can find plenty.

None of the Pokémon games did a good job of this.

Is that yours? I like it a lot.

Nothing comes close to this

I'm way more interested in flat shading at this point, I don't even use textures in my game projects now.

This

2.5d is wonderful.

No, just random set pieces I got stored for inspiration

Attached: wip_hauler.png (534x914, 53K)

I just pulled this image off a google search, it looks like it was stuck through waifu2x.
I personally hate the full 3D aspect of the newer games but out of all of them BW is best.

Attached: Seasons.gif (540x405, 1.18M)

This looks comfy as all fuck and I want to play this game.

I like the way Gen 5 looks.

Attached: 1361104363146.png (649x653, 94K)

these are incredible, but aren't these sprites based on models like how duke nukem and similar games did it? why don't fucking modern fighting games do this
>get 3d artists to do the work
>simple 2d engine
>no licencing
>less latency
fuck normalfags and their shitty desire for bestest giraffex

Not a game. It's a promo piece for some software called Crocotile.

Attached: 1361987546843.gif (300x350, 111K)

lmao

Attached: 1361988455500.gif (500x679, 422K)

No. Breath of Fire III and IV are just 3d enviornments but with 2d characters.

Attached: victory.gif (500x384, 360K)

Is this yours? Looks good but the arms are a bit stiff and awkward. I like his bouncy hair.

Attached: 1361989748662.png (268x179, 7K)

just look for old ones like polygon love

this is dank
who made this?

this is fucking godawful. How anybody thinks this looks good is beyond me. It looks like a remaster of a 2d game with a bunch of bloom and depth of field slapped on it.

This is the sort of stuff they should be going for. simple models, and clean, unfiltered textures.

Vagrant Story is damn near the pinnacle of how good low-poly can look. Imagine what we could do these days with proper non-baked lighting systems and shaders adapted for low poly textures.

Damn those look really good.

I played the demo of this and it made my eyes hurt

Attached: 1361985989921.gif (600x480, 290K)

I still want to play it.

This is very nice. It reminds me of Xenogears.

this is amazing

To add on to BoF
You'd think 2D sprites on 3D backgrounds would look awful like modern Wayforward games, but Capcom was really able to make it work.
Capcom kinda got how to make aesthetically pleasing 3D earlier then most devs, others struggled with the PS1 but Capcom was able to leverage their sprite artists into the 3D realm.

Attached: Aboard the ship.gif (500x366, 64K)

something that has always bothered me.

If somebody posts a screenshot of an emulated game with a smoothing filter over it, people lose their damn shit.

And yet when comparing Ps1 to n64, people always claim n64 looks better because it supports texture smoothing. Am I the only one who loves blocky, crisp textures over smoothed out blobby n64 textures?

Attached: psx_vs_n64___megaman_legends___by_elias1986.png (1282x591, 385K)

seems like an excuse to cut corners to me. but if you're doing a one man project i can see why it would be appealing

Attached: 1414432551139.png (375x439, 22K)

Attached: Fishing.gif (640x480, 612K)

It was only published by From in Japan. The developer was Silicon Studio

Nobody claims that the n64 version looks better it's just a meme.

Attached: Hail, Travelers!.gif (500x435, 421K)

How much would you kill to play a metal slug game adapted in georgeous low-poly like this?

Attached: MONGER.png (708x844, 897K)

Sadly metal slug has been reduced to free to play gacha shit nowadays. A damn shame honestly.

Attached: Parry.gif (491x482, 1.94M)

seconded. Most people including myself strongly prefer the PS.

Although for some reason I prefer fuzzy N64 Harvest Moon over blocky PS Harvest Moons.

Literally "Non-devs share their ideas with non-devs on how to make a gaem" - The Thread

damn it, this whole FFT/BOF isometric spriates on a 3d background style is so gorgeous. Why did more games not use it?

I'm a pretty damn good artist, If I ever get around to making an Tactical CRPG I'm gonna use this style.

Attached: tumblr_inline_n9rr86hGno1ri065t.gif (96x96, 12K)

Looks like shit, and the wobbly camera doesn't help.

>nobody is making games that look like this

I don't know, I just don't like texture filtering in general. Vertex colors scale seamlessly like all vector art, but textures are only as good as their resolution and must keep evolving.
