Generally, you want to start a new account by rolling at least 3 5* units. You get Fjorm and Legendary Ike for free on top of that. And then you get the free CYL pick. I would hold of on picking that one until last, because Hero Fest will possibly give you Brave Ike or Brave Lyn.

Fire Emblem gameplay is different from most SRPGs since its a tight campaign that allows for very little grinding, other than straight up exploits.
This means even in story battles youre thinking who should get the kill because you should really used a balanced army and not rely one one unit.
There is some games in the FE series that allows for grinding. But Awakening, Birthright and Revelations and Echoes all allow it. And it maybe just me, but I feel in the FEs that allow grinding, the level deaigner takes a vacation and just throws a shitton on enemies, in the mindset if the player cant deal with it, they should just go grind.
Conquest has very limited grinding options, but the story really sucks and was obviously rushed. The other sides just make way more sense

Everyone says Relevations has always been trash. The 3DS era in general is awful, only 1/5 games are good and that one good one has a truly poorly written story.

Revelations isnt as bad as everyone makes it seem, the Valla maps are pretty good except for one and its music is amazing.
But before Valla it has some of the most questionable maps in FE history. Theres one where you have to slowly clear snow. Or one where you habe to navigate like 35 turns to reach the end. Also since you pretty much get all the characters, your final squad is just royals and maybe children with optimal skills.

Kana, did I ever tell you about my family from Hoshido? After I was kidnapped from them by my Nohrian family, a series of events led me to reunite with them, but then the magic, malicious sword from father, which I was still carrying despite the fact that it tried to throw me into the Bottomless Canyon earlier, exploded and killed my biological mother, and probably at least a dozen other innocent Hoshidans. So I decided to go back to Nohr in order to ask father if he knew the sword would blow up, just in case he decided to tell me the truth. I then pretended to be loyal to him by following his orders and attacking multiple key targets in the war, allowing my insane army comrades to commit war crimes and execute hundreds of surrendered soldiers, and accidentally getting the legendary Rainbow Sage to commit suicide for me. Oh, and my good friend Azura also ended up getting dozens of innocent dancers killed by the Nohrian army. Anyway, eventually we decide to directly invade my homeland of Hoshido, since Azura decided to use her one-use magic crystal on me and only me to show me that father was an evil monster, and we needed to get him to sit on a magic chair in Castle Shirasagi to show everyone else. After slaughtering a bunch of innocent civilians, hundreds of soldiers, committing even more war crimes, mentally breaking my sister, Sakura, getting my brother Takumi to jump off a wall, betraying the trust of my sister Hinoka, who had dedicated her whole life to getting me back, to the point that she fully expected me to kill her, and getting my brother Ryoma to commit suicide for me, we finally got father to show his true form, and killed him. Oh, and we had to kill Takumi’s corpse too. Seems like my betrayal, mother’s death, etc., broke him enough that an evil dragon was able to possess him, imagine that! Anyway, that’s how we ended the war. All’s well that ends well, even if only two members of my Hoshidan family are alive now. They were good siblings.

Awakening dragged in a lot of new players and it has a lot more waifuing going on. The GBA series allowed you to couple a couple of characters with eachother however it was limited in scope. In the 3DS games however they introduced children as new units. To make these you had to couple the older generation. This meant that the game had to allow many characters to be possibly coupled together. Before relationships between characters only was possible of they had something working for them (childhood friends, similar views, etc) but with awakening everyone had to fuck everyone so they had to resort characters to being one-note with poor interactions just so they could fuck.
This in combination with the fact that you had your own avatar in game who could fuck one of the girls meant waifufagging went from insane to utterly completely insane and the new FEs are hated. Especially heroes, that gachacancer should die and everyone who considered playing it should be shot in the streets
