Because _____it is_____

It looks like a building. What the fuck do you want it to look like? A Chuck e cheese?

Modernist architecture was common during post-World War II construction, so urban areas in Europe and East Asia often share visual characteristics that we associate with "dystopian" imagery. Modernism was popular because it was considered to be a very efficient way to organise urban layouts and large buildings, but their lack of identifying traits and "generic" appearance causes them to look dehumanising and "prison-like." It doesn't help that many modernist architecture experiments degenerated into urban slums (inspiring the Sprawl from Gibson novels or Mega City One from the Dredd comics).

Disney headquarters by comparison.

Attached: Roy_E._Disney_Animation_Building.jpg (2816x2112, 2.47M)

Contrast the OP with the Art Deco movement that was extremely popular pre-World War II (pic related) or the bizarre post-modern architecture experiments that were popular in London over the last three decades (Walkie Talkie building is infamous for how "ugly" it looks).

Attached: chrysler-art-deco.jpg (1024x805, 304K)

because the Japs are a decent bunch of lads with sensible heads on their shoulders. They haven't succumbed to the Western trend of turning offices into glorified preschools.

Attached: Noms.jpg (1500x1000, 888K)

"Walkie Talkie" building, nicknamed after its bizarre appearance. It doesn't help that a lot of these new London buildings have the unfortunate side effect of magnifying sunlight, artificially raising the temperature of nearby streets by ten or more degrees during the summer. Other buildings can also create "wind tunnels" during heavy storms which can literally flip over trucks if the storm is bad enough. A person was killed near Bridgewater Place because an extremely strong wind was accelerated by the building's curvature, causing a lorry to flip over and crush him without warning.

Modernist architecture may look boring and prison-like, but there are bizarre side effects to when you try to make a building look "unique."

Attached: Walkie-Talkie_-_Sept_2015.jpg (1200x1800, 533K)

And here's Bridgewater Place. Again, it looks "unique" but no one could have predicted that the shape of a building could actually kill someone.

I'd rather work in a comfy colorful room than a dehumanizing prison.

Because it's a business.

Sup Forums - Architecture

that's because you're underage and the bright colors matter more to you than job security or benefits

>those shapes
>those signs
A czech prison.

Damn... I was going to buy a Switch tomorrow, but seeing this thread changed my mind. Thanks for helping me dodge the bullet, Sup Forums!

I'm probably older than you, because I know that job security in the modern economy is nothing more than a meme.

Their old headquarter looks cool. I went to Kyoto once and found it by accident when I planed to walk through random streets. Not my photo though.

It's still owned by Nintendo but now one knows what's inside.

>he fell for the liberal arts meme

doubt you're older than me, because 17 is not older than my age

>liberal arts
Nope, I'm a software engineer who works as a consultant, mostly from home. I avoid large corporations like the plague.

>consultant
>work
Lmao an underaged baby boomer

>works from home

this must be what your office looks like then

Wahoo dungeon

that was their old HQ? looks like a couple small shitty apartments

>Japs are a decent bunch of lads
they have a forest dedicated to suicide b/c work/school is so great in Japan.

>now one knows what's inside
Miyamoto's sex torture dungeon.

I know right? in America you can have the convenience of shooting you instead of killing yourself discreetly

Thanks man, I actually learned a lot and had fun doing so. I read a few articles on sky scrapers and their affects on wind, and about those two buildings in particular. Interesting stuff! Seldom do I ever get anything fulling out of this shitty website.

wow what the fuck kind of asshole left the stove on someones gonna get hurt

Who fucking thought that building was a good idea. It looks like it could just fall over, I know it probably wouldn't but I wouldn't want to live in that city with it.

>wagesalve mad as fuck he has to make money for his boss
It's okay sweetie maybe one day you'll save enough to have and actual fulfilling job :)

Is this the building that required the city to remove parking from some streets because it was melting cars?

>It's still owned by Nintendo but now one knows what's inside.

super mario 65 prototype i bet................

>t. 17 year old who thinks mental health isn't at all a factor in work efficiency
A nice-looking building will be more efficient than a plain building built for pure efficient under the assumption that workers are just robots

>sweetie
not that guy but man fyi you make youself look a pleb by saying "Sweetie"

brutalism sucks ass along with everything that came after

>laughs at you in 401K and healthcare

i have vivid reocurring dreams of living in these places. strange thing is that its like in the near future because i remember being taken in a taxi that was automatic but everything was still practically the same and maybe broken down. im probably remote viewing my reincarnated life like 100 years from now.
at one point in another dream im like the same person but older and actually enrolled what i later looked up as westpoint academy. there are tons on russians and english people around. so i think there was another world war that eventually left people scattered and everyone is taking up opportunities.
i also remember that the american continient looked very different. like there was a shoreline at the Rocky Mountains, right up to it because i could see a beach but the landscape still looked northern with pines trees and sand.

Architecture has been shit for a long time. We pretty much gave up on making good looking buildings to focus on other arts

Attached: baroque-rome-07.jpg (640x513, 97K)

workers are just robots, this is not some teenage fantasy where corporate culture (IE Nintendo) cares about each and every employee because they can't. And if an office worker's mental health is affected by the design of their building they've clearly got some fucking mental issues.

Just move into a housing project

>We pretty much gave up on making good looking buildings to focus on other arts
The other arts aren't any better.

>on other arts

Attached: 1466728558250.jpg (620x349, 41K)

Well post-modern art is obviously an exception. In recent years all art is pretty shit but before that there was plenty of good art. Architecture become modern art before anything else.

I work from home for a corporation so I make those and I don't have to commute. All they need are progress reports/examples and occasionally visits. It really helps if you're the only competent coder in a place full of tech illiterate stacies.

Quelle surprise the Amerimutt doesn't understand the importance of beauty

they did an experiment in the 40's(?) proving in the end a satisfactory well lit environment increased productivity

and yeah that break room looks like a shitty daycare for retards because women were allowed in the workplace and do retarded woman shit like put random mugs in bowls and paint the word nums on walls and shit

either that or some incredibly effeminate male either or

just get women out of the workplace and things will be 1000% fixed almost overnight

What is this from?

I like that sculpture

Actually I'm not sure what point I'm trying to make here, but still.

> And if an office worker's mental health is affected by the design of their building they've clearly got some fucking mental issues.
more the reverse, if the aesthetics of your environment are incapable of effecting your mental state you're a stunted spiritual midget

Who here /brutalist architecture/?

Russian embassy in Cuba

Attached: cub.jpg (1200x1800, 995K)

Art Deco is fucking fantastic and needs to come back. I grew up in one of the cities with the most Art Deco designed buildings in the world and buildings there just look fantastically better than any other city I've seen. If any of you are unfamiliar with the theme, look at Metropolis.

what the fuck point are you even trying to make here what the fuck user im visibly upset now

>someone likes bright colors over bland colors? they must be a kid lol
Only a middle schooler would think this.

Attached: 1451203163341.png (743x720, 463K)

something about creativity flourishing in constraint or whatever. thank you for your reply.

t. deluded fantasist

Because a galaxy far far away is actually hell.

what is mental fortitude? snowflakes wouldn't understand this. please go back to your brightly lit neon colored safe space sweety

>open office spaces

Fuck

I rather have cubicles

japan doesnt care about dumb looking buildings, only that they serve a purpose

we were too busy busy winning two world wars, keeping communists at bay, and sending men to the moon. aesthetics had to take less of a priority, so sorry.

Home... or at least it was before I fucked everything up.

Attached: 3262586.jpg (1000x541, 216K)

another word for mental dullness

but yeah you're so badass for having zero taste, I bet all the hard ass kings and warrior nobles lived in rock dungeons oh wait they lived in the most beautiful buildings in the kingdom because they were also not fucking stupid and blind

If I were to guess, a Super Mario Sunshine commercial.

somepeople can work creatively in certain enviorments like having an loft full of roomates, each one banging the shit out of every girl you kinda wanted a piece of but denied.

other peoples creative energy flows in isolated places like their house in a rural area or the top most level of a university library, where theres like one other person banging the shit out of some co ed slut, but her moans are muffled and quieted down because they both have common courtesy, empathy or a mixture of both with some respect.

>he doesn't care about working in a daycare-themed office so he must be mentally dull

the absolute state of brainlets

Inside the building

all complex instruments are also very sensitive

>Be prepared to show your ID
>All vehicles subject to search
What were you trying to say exactly?

I'd rather work in a boring cubicle in Nintendo than a bright, "fun" social loft in Hello Games

yeah exactly, a middle schooler would in fact think that that bright colors and robots and babby talk words on the walls are appealing

Attached: nintendo.jpg (1633x10000, 1.89M)

mario party 1 commercial

It's where they hide m- I mean Mozart.

we generalizations now?
all complex instruments are also unreliable

Working in Japan might as well be prison.

>labrotories

If you think that's bad, wait till you've entered a Korean company building. It's as lifeless as Apple's.

As opposed to lahotories?

This is a brand-new building, built in 2011-2013 though

I'm sure Disney has had a fair share of bomb threats and hostile people over the years.

>tea and noms

Looks like some Soviet Union Dream.

What in the actual fuck is this thing? Why?

Is the slant what causes the winds?

No, middle schoolers are all about being "cool", and trying to desperately distance themselves from anything that looks cute, kiddy or bright and colorful. Get off my board, underage.

>Offices
>glorified preschools
I don't know what companies you've worked for, but the ones I worked for were like prison camps. Offices were dingy, it was hotter than hell, and we were all stuck in our little cubicles. This is the exception, not the norm.

that's the old one, this is the new one. it doesn't like that different, but it's larger and has multiple underground levels used for super sekrit hardware development.

Attached: hq.jpg (900x599, 92K)

Oops. I was typing that all zoomed out in like 1 point font.

Corporations are a prison, user.
