*sigh* why am I not surprised to see your blithering idiocy in this topic? You're the child that just doesn't understand you're not supposed to touch a hot stove and does it over and over. It sickens me to see your unflinching, unapologetic ignorance in a topic that I spent over a month crafting—a month that consisted of possibly the most intense research and mental preparation of my life. To say that I am disgusted by your infinitesimal comprehensional aptitude understates the irreparable damaged you have done to my faith in the human intellect.
Chex. Quest. Is. Not. An. RPG.
Leave.

This is far better than the typical JRPG/shitpost thread but please use a better OP image next time
Mario and Sonic at the olympic games in sochi.

Persona 3-5
LO is shit though. It's just used as a stick to hit FF13 with. I can understand someone liking it if it was their first JRPG but otherwise it's one of the most boring generic pieces of shit ever.

While this is true, I could see this causing so much anger
Imagining not knowing Narshe in 2018
After casual and bandwagoner half of the games are shit.
Fallout
Shining Force
LISA
the trails series
Not sure if this is worse than the blatant shitpost version of this image. At least the other version is such obvious bait that no one responds to it. This is like a popularity chart except edited to be inaccurate for some reason. What's the point?

Dragon Quest VII
And the the paper mario and mario and luigi games
Trails is probably my favorite though
Nice pasta.
Only series that matters.
I dont like the implication that all of the games in the well knowledged category are good, only half of them are worth playing
earthbound/mother 2
Lost Odyssey was GOAT.
You are a retarded faggot who can't get over the fact that the Xbox got an RPG, and it was better than all the garbage Sony has been hosting.
where's X?
and this
IS TO GO EVEN FURTHER BEYOND

FFXII.
Xenogears, Xenoblade, Xenoblade 2, FFXII, Paper Mario 1, TTYD, Rocket Slime
The Legend of Dragoon is my all time favourite game.
Fallout, Fallout: New Vegas, Final Fantasy X, Persona 4 Golden, Persona 5, SMT: SJ, SMT IV, and Dragon Ball Z: Legacy of Goku II are all up there close at the top as well.
That's not the implication
the implication is that you know a lot about jrpgs if you know less popular titles; you are well knowlegded
FF6-10
suikoden 2
dq8
persona 3-5
ff tactics + tactics ogre
I've played so many jrpgs and yet somehow most of my favorites still end up being ff games
Persona 3 and Xenoblade X
What a shitty image macro.
I’d buy, if it was real.
Would Rocket Slime even count as an rpg?
Chex Quest is 10/10
Chrono Trigger
FF6
FF4
Mother 3
Golden Sun
Probably dark clod 2 and secret of mana 2 for the snes
Fallout games aren't Japanese even in theme.
I like Mass Effect 2, gave me a nostalgia feeling for PSX, but it's not a JRPG
Too different from the rest of them
Star Ocean for Super Nintendo.
Download SNES and get the DeJap version ROM.
Nothing has even come close to being as good as that game was, which is why someone spent thousands of hours translating it.
Oh Jesus, I misread as just RPGs. I'm too fucking tired. I'll substitute those two with Golden Sun 1-2.
Yeah but it's it's still a xeno game
This guy get it. You are literally me, but I'll change FF4 for Xenogears.
mother 3 is overrated garbage
No it wasn't. It had short stories which were written by an award-winning writer, but the main story was just a piece of run-of-the-mill save the world from the evil emperor stuff. The combat was slow and boring with no difficulty due to auto-res mechanic. Everything about the game sucked but people overrate it because it came out at the same time asFF13
How do I get into JRPGs? I don't enjoy grinding.
I know but I'm just speculating as to why it wasn't put in the image.
Explain and back up your claim
FFV, Romancing SaGa 2, Metal Max Returns, Nocturne, every Ys game except for the bad SNES ports and the bad PS2 'remakes' by Taito
Despite all the claims, you never have to grind in jrpgs.
Try Chrono Trigger. If you don't like it you probably won't like the genre that much.
I will do that.
Then don't grind, just fight what comes to you as you explore.
Don't grind then.
story was shit
characters were shit
graphics were the exact same as the last game just with some tweaking and a garbage color pallet
everything felt like a slog
Faves include
>Earthbound
>Treasure of the Rudras
>Live a Live
>Skies of Arcadia
>SMT 1/2 + SJ
>Suikoden 1/2
Most games past the NES era don't need grinding. Also listen to , Chrono Trigger is peak JRPG.
JRPGs are a pretty grindy genre by default, but a game like Legend of Dragoon on the PSX has no grinding whatsoever necessary. Even the secret hidden bosses can be unlocked by making sure you just check your surroundings well for specific items and having good equipment. If.you want to grind, it's basically to just make the game ccomedically easy.
What jrpg should I play? For reference I've only played the Xenoblade games, SMT Nocturne, P3-5, and Chrono Trigger.
I totally understand this. The very first game I made was an RPG, the simple virtue of which that you could not heal outside of battle, and because of this every single move you made had to count or else you'd end up being screwed over by enemies.
chrono trigger and super mario RPG are still the best.
Explain why the story is shit. A lot people adore the story and the societal themes in Mother 3.
I can understand why you don’t like the characters, then again they aren’t that different from Mother 2 in terms of development and significance
>but the main story was just a piece of run-of-the-mill save the world from the evil emperor stuff.
The same could be said about almost every RPG.
Don't play a JRPG before the PS2 age and you are set. Most games adjust your encounter rate so you never need to grind
way too heavy handed and has no subtly, not to mention its extremely preachy and predictable. only brainlets could like such an awful story. its like something out of a bad anime.
Which of the following games count as "JRPGs":
- Castlevania Circle of the Moon
- Monster Hunter
- R-Type Tactics
- Dragon Force
- Ogre Battle 64
- Odin Sphere
I can't figure out how the classification works so someone please tell me.
is this implying that the well know series are worse in quality? or is it only separating them out by prevalence
>JRPG
>Grind
Is there a bigger sign that you have no idea what you're talking about?
Okay? You're not really helping the case for Lost Odyssey's story.
>Chrono Trigger
>dead series from one bijillion years ago
>Casual
You Retard.
DQ 4 and 5
FF 5 and 8
Tales of Phantasia most of the rest of the series is hot garbage
Etrian Odyssey III
SMT Nocturne get an honorable mention for how god-tier the animations are and how good the music is
Tales of Game's studios presents Chef Boyardee's Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden. Chapter 1 of the Hoopz Barkley SaGa
Despite your claim otherwise, you actually do in most cases. I mean why else would you fight most of the mobs when most titles let you run away from them? In almost all cases its because you need to in order to reach a decent level of power/gain money/material, and nothing else.
So what games are the isekai's always basing themselves on? Typically skill progressions, adventurer guilds and the likes.
None
The games you listed are all either srpgs and arpgs
If monster hunter is a jrpg then bloodborne is a jrpg
MMORPGs and dragon quest
I ran into a bug in the tales of phantasia rom that prevented me from progressing. I always make sure I have loads of save states now.
I think the only ones I havent played are Trails and Oreshika, though I do hear a lot of good shit about Oreshika
>xenoblade
>bandwagon when the series sold like shit outside of 2 and is niche as fuck
>when Gears and 2 are the only one's to sell well
?
this is you
