Alright Sup Forums, it's time for me to start playing this series. I only tried the first one on the PS2, I liked it very much but my old console broke and I don't even have a CRT TV anymore. I have a gaming PC I built a year ago and that's what I play on, except for a few 3DS games.
So, my question is, what should I do? Should I wait for SEGA to release it on PC? Should I emulate the first two games? (they look horrible though) Should I skip the first two, get a PS3 and start from 3? Should I get a PS4 and start from Kiwami?
Many people advised me against that, because it's full of references from past games that I'm supposed to catch on.

PS3 emulation still has a long way to go. I don’t think Sega will be releasing them on PC any time soon. Best bet is to either emulate the first, get a used PS3 for 3-5, or get a PS4 for 0, Kiwami, and Kiwami 2.

They are wrong, there are a few yes but not enough to make it something you would regret getting.
Also, Kiwami has way more references to 0, so starting with it may not be the best option.
0 is amazing, if you play it and don't fall in love with the franchise, you can drop everything since it is the best one out there.
I've tried emulating the first game. The game is fluid, but the lights are fucked up no matter what I do. Are there any chance to see the games from 3 to 5 to be released on PS4? Also, is it true that you can play them on PS4 with the streaming service PS Now?

I would recommend getting a PS3, it is dirty cheap nowadays, and get a copy of Yakuza 3 as soon as you can since those have spiked up in price, there is only a physical version of that one.

I already fell in love with the first one back on the PS2, and from what I've seen, the modern games are even better. Love the setting, love the combat, and the graphics in the last game seem very good. But it'd be very unpleasant to find out that SEGA released some of them on PC.

No Yakuza 3 on the PS Store?

I think Nagoshi has discussed wanting the whole series to be playable on PS4, but there are some weird licensing things that might prevent 4 and 5, since some of the characters are modeled after celebrities. I’m not sure though. 3 only got a physical release while 5 is only available digitally. So 4 and 5 may be available through the streaming service.

Alright, then I guess I'll consider getting a PS4 and start from 0. Thanks a bunch.

Hmm, I started with 0, didn't know anything about the franchise but I have always loved weeb stuff and japanese culture in general.
Man, what a blast I had, it is the best game I have played in years, maybe The Witcher 3 comes close but I still find it hard for Geralt to have the same charisma as Kiryu Kazuma and Majima Goro.
>play 0 and loved it, amazing boss fights and themes as well as very funny substories and bad ass fighting styles >dusted off my ps2 to play the first one since Kiwami was still far from being released here >played the second one but had to watch the second part on Youtube since my dvd was scratched >got yakuza 3 dirty cheap used and played it on my ps3, pretty comfy game >got yakuza 4 digital and played though it, I didn't like the addition of the other characters but it was not bad >got yakuza 5 digital and liked it, took me almost 200 hours to finish it though, 5 characters is really overkill >currently playing the demo for Y6 on my ps4
It can take way more if you want to platinum it, 300 hours wouldn't be enough I believe.
>So it was not weird to play 0, with a brand new engine, and then the older games?
Nope, I liked the characters so much by the time I finished 0 that the graphics/mechanic changes didn't even matter. I just wanted to know what would happen next to these prideful and golden hearted bastards.
Haruka’s section is forced idolshit, but it stays pretty much contained to her half of the chapter

>that first video
My dick is rock hard. That's it, I'm getting a PS4.

I loved the minigames on 5, the characters have different ones each.
>Kiryu is a taxi driver, you actually have a bunch of missions where you will actually be riding a taxi, obeying the laws of transit and making sure your passengers enjoy the ride >Saejima ends up stuck on a mountain that is tormented by a bear, so he learns how to hunt in the wild, with shotgun and everything >Akiyama has Sky Finance, you have a bunch of people coming in asking for loans and you test them to see if they are worth it, it works as substories in his case but I guess it can be counted as something unique >Haruka is an idol and you do idol stuff, go to tv shows, answer interviews, train on your chreography and shit like that, it was interesting, but there was a HUGE quantity of things for her to do >Shinada has baseball, even though I ended up not doing a lot of his optional stuff, I was already burned out from all the content 5 has
