Sonic 06 changed the course

Somewhere out there, there's a universe where Sonic 06 was an amazing game that lived up to all its ambition. In this universe, SEGA decided to make more Sonic games with a real drive to create something fantastic and memorable, rather than playing it safe and turning Sonic into "DUDE BALDY MCNOSEHAIR LMAO"
If only I could turn back time...

Mania was the first good Sonic game in over 2 decades.

Shut up

even with all the gameplay mechanics revolutionized to a level that makes the impact of the original super mario bros look like dogshit, it would still be a game where a cartoony mascot hedgehog kisses a human girl who looks like she has fetal alcohol syndrome to power up

sega had no money at the time which is why it sucked. i order to "fix" sonic 06, the dreamcast would have had to be successful and all kinds of other chains of events should have gone better for their company. face it, they've been outclassed since 1995

I doubt it. Just watching SEGA as company over the past few decades shows that they are completely out of tune with their fans and inept at making proper decisions.

If 06 was a success it would have meant more money to make future failures.

The course changed with Unleashed, which had passion and drive, though was not a good game. People still lambasted it on the level of Sonic 06. When they did a quick flip of the shit everyone loved from Unleashed into Colors with throwaway levels and people lapped that shit up the course was set.

It wasn't to power up, it was a kiss of life. Sonic was literally dead beforehand

Take your autism here

this, unfortunately

>Le epic Sonic 06 had bestiality meme
Man, I don't care. It was dumb, sure; the whole concept of Elise and Sonic falling in love etc shouldn't have ever been considered. But honestly, that would've barely mattered if the rest of the game was good/ at least just lived up to what they were aiming for.

Really? Didn't Heroes and even Shadow sell like crazy though? Not to mention Sonic X getting popular in America. I was always under the impression SEGA were well to do back then because all the kids loved Sonic and he was everywhere.

Stfu pusy

Money was not the reason why it was bad, it was a lot of deciding factors but the main reason goes into bad directors and producers. The game was only suppose to be about Sonic, he was the main character, and only character. Then they listened to fan feedback, and more fan feedback about people complaining for more characters. So they added Shadow, Knuckles, Amy, and the rest of the shit show through development. It became bloated and a shit show. Sega needed the game out by the holidays and they ruined the scope of their game, trying to add Silver, work with the Havok engine, and a closing release date. They had to ditch their lighting engine because they didn't have time to work on it.

See

This has always irked me. Unleashed by rights was a pretty awesome game hounded by a few glaring flaws; at worst, you could only call it mediocre. And yet people were "LOL WEREHOG SANICS A FURRY NOW" and used that as a reason to dismiss the entire game as utter garbage, even though the Werehog levels, again, were only mediocre at worst, and pretty fun at times.
Why the fuck do fucking retarded normalfags with the wrong opinions have to ruin everything. Fuck

nice comeback, dipshit

Sonic Mania sold on hype like many games nowadays do.

They might be able to squeeze another game or two before they run out of ideas. Franchises need to grow and do different things otherwise they have no staying power.

U mad pusy? Kill ys

Sonic 2006 DID change the course though. It lead to them dropping nearly all of Sonic's friends (at least as playable characters) and revamping the gameplay to make the boost gameplay. You know, THE ONLY GAMES TO ACTUALLY PLAY WELL IN 3D. Sonic doesn't work well as a high speed mario, but it actually works pretty well as an f-zero with jumping and a homing attack.

The werehog is a thousand times less bad than
>wisps

>Didn't Heroes and even Shadow sell like crazy though?
All Sonic games sell like crazy. Sonic has a floor of like 1M units and usually averages 1.5-2 across all platforms. Ever wonder why "they keep making Sonic games" despite them "all being terrible"? It's because Sonic sells an order of magnitude higher than you average video game.

>implying Sonic 06 was the first step in the decline of the series
>implying Adventure 1/2 were good games

This is unironically true. The wisps turned every level into a fucking minigame and weren't integrated into gameplay at all. The gimmickiest gimmick ever; at least the gimmicks of the other games were actually tied to the base gameplay.

Yeah, I know man. Kids fuckin' love Sonic (and I guess the age of the franchise probably yields a lot of long time fans who buy every game). I was mostly just responding to him saying that SEGA had no money back then; if Sonic always sells well, they'd have loads of money, right?
