Megaman Chrono X spyware

>try out the new demo
>want to mess with data a bit
>open Cheat Engine
>game instantly crash
>hmm
>close CE
>reopen Chrono X
>create a text file called "cheat.xt"
>crashes again
>reopen Chrono X
>do a google search for "cheat"
>crashes again

Good thing I run these things in a VM. Who knows what kind of bullshit they're trying to do.

It's like that Sonic fangame all over again.

>wanting to play muh edgy fangame

This is pretty much the last fangame I expected to pull this kind of shit. I guess Shanghai.exe is the one true BN fangame then.

I don't believe you at all

then try ?

It's not even that good

He is kind of right, game crashes when you go to google

Just browsing to Cheat Engine's directory crashes it. I think it scans for "cheat" in windows titles.

That's fucked up

The error message is pretty dumb too. The number changes depending on how you trigger it.

Attached: error.jpg (480x160, 17K)

Well, I mean, this is a multiplayer game isn't it? I would think they'd have preventative measures against cheating, ya know?

>please inform the devs

Has anyone confronted the bastards about this issue? Someone should

yeah its exactly like that sonic fangame actually. except this doesnt put a bunch of shit straight from a creepypasta in the game
or does it?

>Who knows what kind of bullshit they're trying to do.
You're the one trying to cheat engine a fucking fangame demo, you crosseyed retard.

I tried on Twitter but it blocked me saying I'm a bot.

Well I guess but still. Even competitive games let you open files and search google without thinking you're suddenly cheating.

Ye, I'm not about to start grinding zenny in a fucking demo.

It's legit, for anyone doubting OP.

Why the fuck would anyone bother with fangames?

Name one good one besides AM2R. You literally can't

Shanghai.EXE still the superior MMBN game.

>Someone saw the Sonic fangame malware and actually thought "this is a good idea, I'll put it in my game"

Attached: 2ec.png (600x580, 572K)

Welp, time to drop this shit then.

you dont. people just pretend shanghai was good because the touhou fanbase is aggressively obnoxious.

Thanks for the heads-up. Hadn't gotten around to updating to latest edition, but I went ahead and deleted the one I had just in case.

Nobody was pretending though.
The game was legit good.

this makes me worry about shanghai now

how does that prove there is spyware?

>pretend
ive never played a single touhou game in my life
enjoyed the FUCK out of shanghai more than i did chrono x

>people just pretend-
game was a fucking fun and true to source BN clone you fucking contrarian faggot go be different somewhere else

I don't give a flip about Touhou outside of memes and porn and I think it's easily one of the best Battle Network games. I've almost completely grinded the latest version to death and I still boot it up to bully Hakutakuman SP5.

doesn't prove it but at the very least it shows that it constantly scans other processess.

>play the game
>tab out back to my 3d modeling
>open "3dsmaxcheatsheet.pdf" because I never remember shortcuts
>game crashes, pretendign it's a layer problem

If the error said something like "No cheating please ;)" for Cheat Engine only I'd probably just scoff at it and move on but to make up some fake error the moment a window has the word "cheat" in it is shady.

You're gonna open Pandora's Box with that statement. Look, it's already begun...

t. touhou faggot who only ever played a BN game for 5 minutes after he found out about shanghai
stay on /jp/

this

Holy fuck its real

Man im sorry OP for my actions can you ever forgive me?

I legitimately don't understand how someone who has played and enjoyed the BN series could not enjoy the shanghai game. What specifically did you not enjoy about the demo?

So, now what? I'm assuming a simple drag and drop to the recycle bin won't do too much, huh?

pretty sure it's so people don't cheat in the online multiplayer

Can't go wrong with ComboFix.

Sonic Utopia, ATS, BTS, Spyro Myths Awaken, About 20 megaman fangames got PC, Castlevania lecarte chronicles.

You cannot be more wrong you delusional little shit. I've been playing BN since right before Red Sun/Blue Moon came out. I've 100%ed all of the games multiple times. I learned how to play the roms on a fucking phone touchscreen with almost perfect accuracy. I have a glass case full of the action figures, mostly what Takara and Sentinel have put out.

Shanghai.EXE is one of the best Battle Network games, second to 3 Blue and maybe the full version of BN6. I don't give a fuck about Touhou, but the gameplay and world are there in top form. Not even the people translating it care about Touhou.

>Trying to "cheat" in the first place

This. Just watch a letsplay or something

No you dont understand user. My opinion is better than yours so fuck you anyway haha :^)

ITT anons find out that window titles are accessible to all apps

Obligatory for BNfags

>Chrono X
Not even once.
I'll play the superior fangame that also isn't packaged with spyware.

Attached: ahaha.jpg (480x472, 23K)

I wonder what other words trigger this "crash?"

Alt-right memes and slogans

My favorite SH vid so far

Try running your browser as an administrator. The game won't be able to access it unless it's also run with administrator privileges.

>next beta will have malware to bypass admin privileges

I don't think windows titles are excluded from that. If I run the game as a standard user and run cmd as and admin and set the title to "cheat", it still crashes.

You mean the one that you can't play on the go? Like a true, spiritual tribute fangame?

That's the single most autistic reason to dislike a fucking PC fangame. Don't you have a laptop or some shit?

No, the one that's actually a good fangame and I can play in my PC without having malware shit.

why would they put malware in it wtf?

I guess they didn't think window titles were sensitive enough to warrant separation. Oh well, still worth a try. What if you change cheat engine's window title and file name to something else before opening the game?

Has anyone ran the game from a debugger yet?
I don't really care about fan games, but it sounds like shitters like these wouldn't even be capable of preventing debugging properly. And once you've got a debugger on it, getting rid of bullshit like that is just a matter of patience.

So none on the go. Like how the BN series was on the GBA, like SF was on the DS. Gotcha.

is this game finished? like 100% and just looking for glitches are are they still adding single player content

Enjoy your spyware, then.

is shanghai a demo or a complete game? might give it a go

ignore weebshit shills. shanghai sucks

don't play it, it's a shitty incomplete tohou fangame

Didn't a Sonic game do this, too?

its a "demo" but i suppose calling it a beta is more accurate. i think the game ends a bit past the midway mark or something but theres a postgame room to jack up enemy difficulty and fight bosses that arent in the story yet
gameplay is smooth as silk and all the styles are unique and interesting. the dev clearly has a love for the series and if you arent a fan of touhou you can easily look past that for the gameplay
its fucking free, what do you have to lose honestly

WOW, IT'S NOT LIKE THE FIRST REPLY TO THIS THREAD SAID THAT. THANKS FOR THE INSIGHTFUL COMMENT, user

I made the reply before opening the thread because I'm a tard.

bump

sorry, i'm just being bitter because I hate myself

it's a demo with more than half of the game done already, it's only missing a few story chapters and multiplayer (that was confirmed to be included)

oh my god lol

I'm not exactly savvy with debugging assembler but at least it doesn't crash when I boot it or when I attach it. Tbh I don't care enough to try anything more.

I'd say it's more laziness than shadiness.

Iterating through the main window titles of open processes is extremely easy (a one liner, in C#), and definitely easier than actually trying to identify if it's Cheat Engine running. It's actually easier than getting the main module's filename, if only because you save some keystrokes and property accesses.

The fake error is likely because they are under some delusional notion people wouldn't instantly see through the error message.

It's okay, I hate myself too.

Wow this is godly lmao

Why you wanted to cheat so fast? Just asking.

My self-respect. My sanity. My lunch.

Attached: Skodwarde_1.jpg (800x450, 63K)

how do i go full screen

>game actively scans for other applications
>.exe or.dlls aren't detected by virustotal

What the fuck, this is some high end malware. Should be reported ASAP.

>N.Y Stge

Attached: 1508985264566.jpg (500x391, 71K)

Yeah considering everything else it's most likely just that. Still a stupid move imo.

Not so much cheat as use CE's speedhack feature. I played the previous demo a bit before and I just wanted to rush through the first part of the game.

What?

>I wanted to "gonna go fast"
Of course.

Is it really so difficult to believe that some people utilize cheats just to fuck around with a game?
I love doing that shit, particularly when I can explore unused beta locations and debug rooms, but I would never cheat to actually progress forward. That's dumb.

Wow sucks to hear about Chrono X spyware, but this video srsly made me want to play a BN game again.

>Is it really so difficult to believe that some people utilize cheats just to fuck around with a game?
Actually, YES.

Reminds me of how shithack server for PSO put malware on your PC that would, among other things, crash the game if you went on their old forums. And to think that this shit was shilled so aggressively here before the release, too.

>not playing Shanghai.EXE instead

Attached: 55721183_p0.jpg (428x650, 94K)

t. Chrono X dev

Huh. That's too bad.

That was exceptionally well done.

Attached: megabusted.gif (270x180, 148K)

This kind of thing is extremely easy to program. I think it is getting the list of processes and doing a a string search for "cheat". I feel that is what it is doing, since OP mentioned it crashed when he searched "cheat" in Google. I feel like "Spyware" is not the right term. Just curious, when does a game go "too far" with this?

wew, that was my first thought too
The fuck was he trying to do again? I believe it was involving his shitty sprites.

It's not accessing memory, only window and process titles. Once you start accessing the memory space of other programs (good luck with that) it becomes actual spyware.

You gullible sheep, one person says its spyware and suddenly everyone here agrees just because they want to hate everything. All it does it crash when you have a window open that has the word “Cheat” in it. Why would some fangame devs collect data on such a small group in the first place.

Because the last fangame to do this shit was spyware.
Of course a game doing this at all is over the line. A game has no business to be scanning anything on someone's computer for the sake of crashing when it finds something it doesn't like.

t. never played a competitive multiplayer game
Be glad it just crashes instead of flagging or banning you.

I've played plenty of competetive multiplayer games.
None of them did diddly shit when I ran cheats because they aren't shitty games made after 2011.
