How is it that they had to remake everything and yet its almost indistinguishable? If at one point they thought 0.2 models looked good, then i have a hard time believing they just effortlessly recreated them all this closely.

probably ripped the models from a ps2 copy of the original game or files from kh2, i doubt it's a full on remake as well, it would've taken too much work and like you said it's too close to the original for it to be done from the ground up.
