Style Savvy's had several releases in the last few years and Nintendo pushes it every time. I'm not saying its relevance is comparable to those, but the character is about as out there as them.
Dr. Mario, Dark Pit, and Lucina get merged with Mario, Pit, and Marth, respectively. Roy's out. Oddly enough, Alph got separated from Olimar and does his own thing now.

The only third party characters I can confirm are Shovel Knight, Jibanyan, and Wonder Red. DLC is still very early on, they're working on getting the game complete before they even consider updating it with more.

it surprised me too when i first found out about it but once i saw him in action and saw the new uses for pikmin he brings to the table it made sense.
