Why are bards terrible in every RPG ever?

Why are bards terrible in every RPG ever?

They are a support class most often, which impairs their ability to excel at anything

>literally the only class that can break meta without breaking meta
>video game versions don't take advantage of this
I'm not actually surprised now that I think about it, even the massive normie influx for pen and paper RPGs can't figure this shit out and just do retard bards who sing and strum instruments constantly.

I thought bards is the chad class

Bards are a class created to get women interested in RPGs, so if you're a male it's natural to find them boring.

That's how life is, in general, for women: boring. They don't enjoy anything except motherhood. But corporations took that from them, too. Now they're just angry and bitter and sad 24/7.

That's wrong though

Attached: 2-troubadour_portraits.png (2391x825, 1.4M)

wow... really makes me think

shame other classes are typically better at support than they are and can do other things better as well

People say this for the same reason they say "Real men wear pink!" "Real men take care of single mothers!"

Social conditioning

>retard bards who sing and strum instruments constantly.
Real bards pick Perform (Balloon Animals)

What the fuck is this thread already?

It must be an uncomfortable feeling.

Support classes always suck.

Is Sup Forums entirely composed of women?

Men are halfway to the same result, because their nature has been largely taken away too. They don't generally get to do any of the things prehistoric men did, except for a marginal amount of (corporate) competition.

What does being a bard have to do with motherhood in the first place?

Or how can you "break the meta without breaking the meta". You literally can't do thing without doing said thing.

It's not that bards have to do with motherhood, it's that they're a noncombative class (generally speaking - they fight in DnD because there's no such thing as a noncombat class in DnD) that takes a supportive role, which women prefer

They're a "jack of all trades" class in the tabletop.

Attached: bard.png (1556x2005, 636K)

Can you really blame them? Americans haven't made a good game since the 90s

This. Support is only great in large ass parties, but in a 3-4 party, it's not worth it to waste a slot instead of just filling it with an ass-kicker.
This mainly applies to video games. In pen and paper, fucking around is king, and minmaxing shouldn't be the ideal.

It depends entirely on the game you're playing. In EVE Online, one combat ship plus one support ship (be it EWAR or a healing ship) beats three combat ships.

I guess depending on the game the bards may have healing spells (songs) but healers generally have a more nurturing nature as classes.

Is Type0 actually good?
I've heard some of the soundtrack and it's pretty good, but I don't know if that's enough for me to consider playing it since having a good soundtrack is basically a requirement of a FF game.

this is your brain on Sup Forums

Being correct is a Sup Forums thing?

Do you really think some fucker with a lute would help against a dragon?

>FFXI
>Terrible Bards

You're a fucking idiot. That class was the "one way express to getting your dick sucked by both JP and NA communities at the same time" if you had Mage's Ballad alone. Bards got what they wanted PERIOD

It has an amazing OST and the initial premise is absolutely amazing and makes you think it's gonna be the best FF ever made.
Then you explore it mechanically and it's just...meh.
Then it becomes frustrating and broken.
And then it just sorta fizzles out and leaves you disappointed.

>wearing a color is Sup Forums
Okay

How is this plagiarism? they look nothing alike other than the generic digital cyberpunk theme.

>Is Type0 actually good?
It's superb. I personally only got to play it for the 1st time via the PC's HD port, just last year actually, and didn't expect much from it.

Now, after 3 playthroughs and over 250h clocked into it, I'd say it might be my very favorite FF, ever. Literally threatening the throne of IX as my fav game in series.

The soundtrack is good, but that's a nobrainer for FFs. The story and world are quite dark and moody for a FF, something I found surprising in a positive way; it sure portrays war in a cruelsome, quite realistic way, and the politics behind it are surprisingly fascinating.

Keep in mind that you will need to do NG+ run or two to get EVERYTHING the game has to offer. There's gameplay and story reasons for this.

I have to disagree with you there.
I'd say Type 0 is at least the best FF since late 1990s, potentially even better.

I can't think of a single game where bards aren't broken as shit.

I love Miku!

Dragons can only be enchanted by virgins, so miku would be ineffective against them.

Sombra and Miku have literally nothing in common.

This!
The bard is a pretty useful class in PnP RPGs. I've played both as a bard and a CHA/INT rogue in D&D and it works very well when everyone else is just minmaxing for combat.

Fucking yawn.

>Is Type0 actually good?
Like every single FF game, T-0 divides people.
I personally really enjoyed it. It's full of FF fan-service in numerous shapes and forms, all done and taken very seriously.
There's plenty of content to experience and replay value. The gameplay may feel a bit limited and/or overwhelming at first, but things both open up and you yourself start "getting" the game better the more you play. It helps if you find a character to "main" as most of the game, and then just cycle through the other party members as you please.

It's also an interesting study subject, because originally T-0 was meant to be part of the spinoff games of the FFXIII series, just like XV was when it was still called "Versus". There's still plenty of story and thematic leftovers from those times, most of it quite interesting really.

The bard in dnd is laughing at you playing the trololol song on his instrument riding riding a tarrasque

Because bringing a guitar to battle probably isn't the best thing to do.

Why is Miku anger?

That's just airbending at the point.

>Apply yourself. Follow the flowchart.
What does this even mean?

That's where you're wrong.

BRD is still broken to this day. It had a couple years there where it fell off but after they fucking doubled all their song effects it's a godlike support again and is used on on content along with geomancer and corsair

pink used to be an exclusively male color, suck a dick faggot

>extreme sonic vibrations = wind
Are you retarded

>suck a dick faggot

I tried, everyone at the bar said "We only want men who wear pink"

>DM doesn't allow you to get anywhere near 18 CHA at level 1 even with proper race selection due to how bad you'll break his game if you can do bard things
>But he's a brainlet that allows 20 INT level 1 wizards

Well I'd be a Wizard one way or another considering Bard magical secrets and Lore college..

Probably. Sounds like bending to me.

>a speaker and a fan are the same thing

Oh okay.

That sounds very retarded, but Bards don't need THAT much Cha to be effective.

Sounds like you have a really shitty DM though. Bards are the best all around class in the game, but they are at no point "broken" like for example early level Moon Druid or high level Wizard

bard is hard mode so yes

>Bards are the best all around class in the game
>Where Wizards is slowly making it based on being a murderfest.
Not him, but how? How does a class that can't stand alone in most instances be the best? Rogue player here, haven't partied with a bard and I'm usually the skill monkey in that regard.

Theyre both atmospheric kinetic energy, though.

Bard is heavily dependent on the creativity of the player. A guy I play with caused a small civil war in a kobold dungeon with cheese, bluff, and some prestidigitation.

Well DnD is a team game, splitting up is a bad idea in most instances. And guess what, Bard excells at teamplay.

They are by far the most versatile class have the most varied builds.

Want a gish fighter? Go Valor. They are stronger at ranged combat than even Ranger and Fighter before VERY high level. Don't forget that you are also a fullcaster.

Want to play a caster? Well Lore Bard is the strongest caster in the game, as they can worsen the enemies saving throws and choose from among all spells.

They just get way too much shit for free. Compare what most caster classes get to what the Bard gets. You can't overload a class more.

>Lore Bard

You forget that they get spells Paladins get at the 12-15 circle of play at like level 7~8. Bonkers BULLSHIT mode, but I'd still prefer Divination Wizard

Not the guy you're replying to, but see:
When everyone else are just going all in/full retard on combat, then it is useful to have someone do the talking/haggling/checking/buffing/off-healing/etc. A skills rogue is good too, and can also be a better choice, depending on the party.

Sounds like fun, but on the same time, you seem to have to have a table where the DM is a total drooling idiot to let you turn Bardic shenanigans into common measures and fun, correct?

Bard's Tale is pretty good desu

Attached: Bard's Tale.jpg (620x350, 144K)

It's pretty good. It goes on sale for like $10 now so pick it up next time it does.

Yeah divination wizard is also something else.

I forgot to mention that Bards are also the best skill monkeys in the game. Compare them to Rogues (the other skill monkey class), and you will notice that except for pure dps the Bard can do everything the Rogue can but better or more.

Due to both classes having expertise but only Bard having (higher level) spells, the Bard is even better at stealth.

Well I'm the DM for most of the time, and a good DM should always strive for giving every player an opportunity to shine at some point.

Bard in 5e with lore college is pretty great if you like having every skill and just about any spell you want.

>DM is a drooling idiot for letting you play your class correctly.
No, faggot. If your DM is making bards just stand in the back and inspire courage all session then he is a fucking failure.

The most broken thing in DnD is that wizard spec that allows you to replace anyone's roll (yours included) with a roll of your choosing

I think it's called divining or something

Because games take the jack of all trades role with some decent buffing, and focus less on the jack of all trades part.

Then there's FF14 where they're a glorified archer class with some buffing.

They aren't.

They are the best class in Baldur's Gate 2.

>spam clones
>have them all sing
>deal upwards of 500 damage per hit

>games where bards are bad:

>FFIV
>games where bards aren't bad:

Bards can stand alone fairly well actually. Assuming 3rd ed, you have a fairly decent spell list right off the bat with some general bullshit (Glitterdust, Alter Self, etc) and Bard-specific bullshit (lol Glibness) and are very flexible with your further choices. You can go full spellcaster and get a complete spell list with PrCs or do proper fighting (Echoblade, Bardic Knack + Knowledge Devotion and so on).
Diplomancy outright breaks the game if you ever get a DM insane enough to treat those skills as written. Bards can largely do it with a single spell cast, you don't even need to optimize.
And last but not least, you have Use Magic Device. Or in other words, with enough money (Bluff: Hi, you were supposed to give me all your money today kthxbai) you can do whatever any other spellcaster can.

Why the fuck would you use your portent rolls when you can already more or less declare what reality shall occur per day? Two Wizards not killing each other is basically a secured party
