I disagree. Since the Fallen Heroes banner ended (~ a month ago I think) I've got just under 250 free orbs. Tempest Trials, Arena, BHBs etc are all fairly regular and provide quite a few orbs. I think it's rare that a month goes by without at least 150 free orbs from it.

This is only half true.
In general, you don't need to have a beneficial IV on any but the most minmaxed units (ie: units with high speed/atk but no defenses really do need a boon to either speed or attack to shine) so you can run with neutral or 'effectively neutral' IVs without too much difficulty. With that said, having a bad bane can oftentimes cripple a unit; particularly pre-powercreep units that only really have one exceptional stat.
