Which makes more sense?

Which makes more sense?

the earliest iteration

SNES/Nintendo.
The Xbox way makes no sense and is just different because they legally have to be.
Gamecube has the best face button layout.

>A as main button makes no sense
hurrr
N64 and gamecube A was also the main button retard

The O/A/B difference is moreso a cultural reflection of what is considered "Go"

None, the setup would be improved if the letters and shapes were replaced with directional arrows.

Nintendo
Sony would have been great too, but they fucked it up by flipping the X and O buttons outside of japan.

But on that note, Nintendo also fucked us out of their iconic colors by making them purple in NA

The Xbox one quite obviously.
Sony's ok, Nintendo can go suck a dick that shit makes no sense.

Xbox swapped a/b and x/y because Nintendo patented that too? FUCKING Nintendo, banning best button layout and dpads on other consoles for decades.

just colors is fine with me, i dont care about x,y, triangle, blah blah

Xbox makes most sense.
Nintenniggers can fuck off.

not nintendo

not xbox

not sony

Easily xbox

to bad Xbone controllers are more uncomfortable then holding hot coals

it doesn't need to make sense considering they're just they're to differentiate inputs

>AB
>YZ

Xbox tbqhwy. And this is coming from someone who doesn't like the Xbox brand that much.

I've never seen any evidence of Nintendo owning a patent preventing others from using their button layout. There are unlicensed controllers that are styled after Nintendo's.

>tfwno Wired Xbox360 controller with a Sony D-Pad

Playstation

Rhombus-delta-ring-fork will always be best

>sony dpad
better with a N64 or Saturn pad tho

playstation. i'm fucking retarded so it's easy for me to differentiate the buttons. i always get confused by letters

if someone could mix gamecube's face buttons with playstation's letters, fucking christ, that'd be the best goddamned controller of All Time

It's not logical though, 4 angles - 3 angles - 4 angles - no angles.

True.

Nintendo. X comes before Y so it is on top in that sequence and A comes before B so it is on top in that sequence.

Its arbitrary and honestly doesn't matter, anyone not retarded can readjust on the fly since you shouldn't be staring down at the buttons anyways

Nintendo and Sony I'm fine with. Xbox's layout makes 0 sense and shouldn't have went with the alpha style Nintendo had.

Nintendo and Sony. Xbox should have used something other than letters and shapes. Maybe colors?

Sony for controllers, Nintendo for handhelds.

saturn

xbox makes more sense, i still like playstation more

>a circle has no angles
Oh boy.

The only correct answer.

The one where x and y are on their respective axes

Attached: Jaguar_Controller.jpg (998x578, 169K)

those were really crappy manufactured

I just searched for a Sega 6-button pad and picked the one with a close up.

Fuck me you've just reminded me of the numberpad and it's usefulness for switching out weapons with no need of a menu. Zelda games would benefit greatly from a controller inspired by this.

PS and SNES's operate on the premise of the button on the right being primary and the bottom secondary. Unless you're talking about American PS but let's say for the sake of argument that we're talking OG Japanese.

For Xbox, it seems to be assumed that A is primary and B is secodary. Or is it? Doesn't seem like your thumb would naturally rest in a shape like that. Is it supposed to rest across A and X? Okay, but that letter hierarchy doesn't make much sense.

Coming down to PS and SNES, I'm gonna say SNES wins it. O and X obviously represent confirm and cancel and is placed based on where they expect the primary and secondary buttons to be, but the placement of triangle and square seems to be arbitrary. You could switch the two and it wouldn't make a difference. The X and Y on the SNES controller follow the hierarchy already set by A and B so it wouldn't make sense to swap them.

That said, this is all inconsequential. Personally I like the shapes best. No real reason.

I appreciate the meme, but replace rhombus with quadrilateral

>For Xbox, it seems to be assumed that A is primary and B is secodary. Or is it?
trying this hard

We noticed you are from neogaf...

Well weaboo, you must be new, but sega did A as primary and B for secondary for the west. While C is primary and B secondary for the east.
So don't come with this bullshit saying that A is not supposed to be primary because japanese consoles follow the japanese layout.

>O and X
We played japanese games too, X is cancel but O is confirm only in weeaboo land. Period. O is not and it will never be confirm in the west. Deal with it. Try shilling it, maybe you accomplish something to brag about on neogaf.

...where it was designed.

failing to notice neogaf shilling
>Doesn't seem like your thumb would naturally rest in a shape like that.
>Is it supposed to rest across A and X? Okay, but that letter hierarchy doesn't make much sense.
failing to notice this mental gymnastics
>Personally I like the shapes best.
failing to notice obvious bait

Not a fan of their keyboards but they do use genuine cherry switches for what its' worth however, I do have that m65 mouse and it's fucking tits.

>but they fucked it up by flipping the X and O buttons outside of japan
PS1 used triangle as accept.
