Am I alone in wanting an open world Harry Potter RPG or MMO?

Why would anyone want an mmo made out the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises.
>open world
Would be pretty based. Have hogwarts, the MOM, diagon alley, downtown London etc hogsmede etc. You choose which house you want to be in, if you want to be a dark wizard or a good wizard.
The combat in a Harry Potter game would have a lot of potential. That’s the thing that would interest me the most.
an open world harry potter mmo except its in the future and its cyberpunk and you play as harrys grandson whos timetraveled 9000 years in the future to defeat voldermort
No!
Cringe
The Witcher: Harry Potter edition
Yes please
maybe not an mmo, but a single player open world game with a lot of things to do, yes
character creation too
Seeing how open world games are all about massive contiguous areas and considering how geographically expansive the Harry Potter series is plus the expanded Wizarding World universe which spans multiple continents, it would probably take forever to create a game that large.
"No!"
Obviously you’d just do London and Hogwarts. Wouldn’t necessarily be that big. Maybe like the size of GTAV?
Why would you want to play an MMORPG when you could watch the series instead? Each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has extremely exciting and unique characteristics when set against the others. One of the many consistencies in the series is its excitement and creative use of special effects, which really helps bring the magic alive and the action ert.
Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series wouldn’t be subjected to the bland directorial style he fell into afterwards with War of the Worlds, Minority Report, and Big Friendly Giant. The profitable cross-promotion for her books was really just an afterthought. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-Fast and the Furious series in its refusal of stupidity, inanity, and lack of logic. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.
>a-at least the books were good though r-right
"Yes!"
The writing is imaginative and comes off of the page; the book is a masterpiece. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character “stretched his legs” rather than using the duller “went for a walk” expression.
I began marking on the back of an envelope every time I saw a child’s eyes come alive with wonder while reading the books. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so naturally attuned to the Jungian archetypes that govern human thought that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a review of Harry Potter by some guy on Sup Forums. He wrote something to the effect of, “Harry Potter is great.” And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read “Harry Potter” you are, in fact, trained to read Shakespeare.
Hi
What did she mean by this?
I can see the huge skill tree for spells now, and all of them would be shit next to flipendo
Based "No!" poster.
Wait what?
>No!
One can only imagine how terrible a combination of the open world genre and one of the dullest franchises in the history of movie franchises would be. Each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.
Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."
I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.
>this new pasta
"No!"
London isn't small by any stretch of the imagination.
based
>Wizards can be outclassed by a random motherfucker with a shotgun in the lore
Why would you want this?
Neither is LA but Rockstar did it decent enough.
your pasta is stale
Even fans of HP hate rowling's opinions at this point.
Don't forget the road trip the three make across the UK during The Deathly Hallows whilst trying to avoid the Death Eaters.
No. I don't give a fuck what people say, I would absolutely kill for a MMO with a full scale Hogwarts where go to explore the school and spec based on classes. I thought Pottermore was going to be an MMO, but Rowling wanted it as a platform to retcon shit instead.
Isn't this game basically a Harry Potter esque open world RPG? I mean, I know it's indie pixel shit by Chucklefish but the concept is the same.
They made it work by turning LA into an island and putting certain areas into it.
This guy gets it.
The problem with this hyperbolic strawman is that nobody who enjoys Harry Potter regard it as some literary masterpiece. The early books are especially bad, but they are genuinely interesting, get darker as the series progresses, and Rowling's prose does get better. The biggest reason people like Harry Potter, I suspect, is due to nostalgia. Myself, I started reading book 1 when I was in 6th grade and I think I was in undergrad by the time it was finished. I'm now 30.
Choose one and only one
Yeah and you could more or less do the same with a Harry Potter game. Make the south a smaller version of downtown London, which would include the MOM, diagon alley and various other London suburbs. The middle could be wilderness, and the north could be the Scottish Highlands where Hogwarts and Hogsmede are. It doesn’t have to be literal, just passable. Also take into account that this game probably wouldn’t be released until next gen, so you’d be able to flesh things out a little more.
>turning LA into an island
UK is literally an island.
fpbp
Just play Gmod you fucking idiot, people have been doing that for years
first post, always best post
I think it would work best as a single player story game with free exploration of the castle between missions. It would be best to do it as a prequel of some sort since the main story was so specifically focused on Harry.
Just imagine a game with a huge, well fleshed out castle with hundreds of rooms. The big obstacles to such a game are that constant combat, which is such a big feature of many games, wouldn’t make much sense in Hogwarts. Students couldn’t just go around killing other students. Any combat would have to be limited to killing dark creatures in the forest or the black lake.
In any case I agree that it’s bewildering they haven’t found some way to make a Hogwarts exploration/RPG game.
I'm pretty autistic, but still don't possess anywhere near the level of autism required to RP in GMod.
The one who won't scold me for making it snow.
Neverwinter Nights used to have a HP Persistent World server that was amazing. You start as a normal kid, have to shop for your supplies at Diagon Alley, get sorted, had assignments etc. Even had Quidditch. It was great.
>fly around on a broomstick
>play quidditch
>interesting combat system with various spells
>explore Hogwarts, Hogsmede, the Forbidden Forrest, Diagon Alley and the Ministry of Magic
>start the game out as a student, which is basically the tutorial area. This is where you are sorted into your house, learn basic spells, and decide what path you want to ultimately go down as a wizard
>you either become an Auror, a member of Dumbledores army, or a dark wizard for Voldemort
>each path plays entirely different
Would be Based and everyone knows it.
>harry potter
>2018

So is there porn of these sessions or what?
Not based
Based no poster
Cringe.
Based based posters.
What the fuck kind of ending shot is this?
That's how the book ended.
DEH
>and the action ert.
>trying to discuss Harry Potter on Sup Forums with the deh and pasta posters
There is no way that an MMO could do the whole magic thing justice.
Plus it would have to take place way after or way before the books so as to not fuck up continuity.
WE TAKE THE FOKIN LOT MATE
This isn't right
Just ignore Harry Potter all together, and use the mythos and lore.
>Am I alone in wanting an MMO?
Hopefully.
>we learn 2 things from ayn rand's writing.
>1) she loves train stations
>2) she can't write
