Does VR have potential or will it be held back by high costs?

It's already starting to die
By the time it's cheap enough for most people to want to buy it, there won't be any games supporting it because nobody bought enough headsets.

yes
unless its 10-15 bucks its not going to fly

its held back by dumbfuck devs making nothing but shooting galleries and avoiding movement altogether

john carmack is enjoying it. and i think that was the whole point in the first place

Anyone used VR for porn?
How is it?

its awesome. your missing it and unless you get one, you will never join the rest of us in happiness. stay in pre2018 porn, brosef

>YFW you see all this awesome NEW porn content and you can't even enjoy it.

Thinking about starting a VR Arcade

How much would you pay for 1 hour of gaming?

$5

Attached: 1520606486089.jpg (680x900, 153K)

I think it's pretty cool. I just wish devs would stop avoiding movement in games. Motion sick babbies can die in a hole. Beat Saber looks dope as fuck.
>price.
Get a better job pleb.

Would there be hygienic issues with this idea?

Attached: 1503527464447.jpg (656x1024, 164K)

that guy is meeming
its not that great. i mean if you like 3d then maybe?
first problem is finding content thats not short ad for the actual porn
second is its all really samey cause theres only so much you can do with a vr camera and having it move makes peolle puke, so youre always on your back.
there is dramatic lack of f pov
i couldnt find any 2d content on mobile vr at all, so i just dont know.

also it just gets plain boring after a week
my visor is gathering dust

It was a failure. It's an expensive piece of shitty hardware no one can even figure out how to make actually playable games for. It's a $800 Kinect.

Attached: 33.gif (399x560, 267K)

It will catch on when it's cheap and advanced enough. So not any time soon

VR hentai porn FUCKING WHEN?????

That's because VR movement is garbage no matter how you do it.

I feel a bit bad for him that he ended up working at the joke VR company, even if they started the trend.

Could make the new golden age of arcades if someone implemented the technology for a one coin one play use. Imagine the possibilities dear fags.

>he fell for the vr meme

Attached: 1515157843648.gif (328x321, 2.79M)

God I hate that disgusting tweeing animation style.

I don't know man, it's amazing for me.

There's this one vid where you are surrounded by 5 girls who all are masturbating and tease talking you to look and jerk off to them.

A single video completely ruined my social life for weeks

>talking in porn

This. Even if people don't get sick you will almost certainly need to give the headsets a wipe-down to prevent eye infections or similar from the large amount of traffic.

Onward doesn't give me motion sickness, neither does Lone Echo. It's much easier to make a decent locomotion system if there is no artificial smooth rotation.

Are you serious?
Koikatsu is going to have native VR support
WSS you can download for free now

I

When they look you in the eye it's pretty great.
Vr porn eye contact is where the magic is.

Japan has vr 'theme parks', arcades really, already and yeah, they just wipe it down, antibacterial stuff.

this
Playhome is infuriating in that regard (it is justified considering the scene, but nonetheless)

That the one with Mia Malkova and Karla Kush?

>joke vr company
>makes up the majority of headsets used on steam.
k

It will held back, and pushed, by greedy jews ready to cash in. Thankfully Carmack did is role really well developing the tech having it happening in the first place.

It is bad the way it is. It needs more feedback and more controls. Like using a fullbody suit with motion capture and some sort of HDrumble things all over it.
Then it might be actually good.

It needs more signature, system selling titles (I.E Halo)

Lower prices would help substantially too.

people who say "he fell for the vr meme" have never tried VR
Everyone who complains about VR hasn't tried VR.
Stay mad, poorshitters.

Everyone who defends VR is in denial
>he fell for the VR meme

post yfw you didn't fall for the VRMeme.

i couldnt care less about eye contact with some random slit that i have less than zero emotional attachment to

What it really needs right now that can be done is a game. Better yet a MMORPG game. Add something that you can only do with VR. Make the game playable for non-VR players too.

you don't have to make excuses that you haven't tried VR, it's okay to admit it.

it's okay to admit that you fell for the VR meme

vr is dead and this is why we have threads about it every five hours

A gaming cafe just opened near me with VR stations/rooms set up, they charge 25 an hour and seem to get a lot of business (they're at least making enough money to open up a second location)

I'd never pay that much for the shit, most i'd pay is 10-15

VR has more potential to be an educational tool than a device used for gaming. Especially in the medical field

Idiots are buying them enough to ensure the next generation VR most likely will happen.

>poorfags jealous of my VR porn

thats all its good for atm though

There's a number of things which will kill the current VR generation.

>price
Not enough people are buying it, so it's not terribly profitable, so the price won't go down easily

>games
VR games either suck ass and are only good for the novelty of VR, or straight up would be better as a non-VR game.

>technology
In order to be advanced enough to be really good it has to be expensive. See point 1.

These reasons feed into each other, creating a loop of failure.

But how many people come back regularly? I'd guess not many.

Faggots trying to rationalize away their buyer's remorse.

pretty much this, unless they mass campaign some awesome sauce FOTM game

What if you're all wrong and we'll have a VR like in ready player one in a decade or two. That book was total trash but the OASIS was like a wet dream for most people.

VR could be a successful niche, even at high cost, if you had experiences that people found worth the price. People were paying thousands of dollars for high-end PC components to play PC games, when they found reason to prefer it over cheaper substitutes.

Honestly I am seriously considering sending my HMD back after test playing stuff like Gorn, Space Pirate, VR Kanojo, War Thunder, ED, Waltz of the Wizard, VR Chat, Apex, Elven Assassin and Fallout VR.
It's just so bothersome to play these games. I unironically spend the most time playing Fallout VR, but since it's a bad game I also lost all interest after like a dozen hours. At least it offered some traditional video game content, I was able to play sitting down and movement was kind of fast using teleport plus 45° rotation. Using the track pad to move is just soooo bothersome and tiring for extended periods (although my teleport finger also gets tired at some point lmao) and there is nothing really added to the game that makes it a VR experience. Instead of clicking left mouse to kill enemies I whack them with my right hand. Woooow. Being immersed from a visual point of view is alright I guess, but I never felt immersed in the game itself, sure one point is that it's fucking bad, but even Gorn which is a straight out VR experience feels lacking in terms of immersion. The physics are still too dumb in that game and Apex a true VR singeplayer game lost my interest once I discerned the main gameplay loop as "find thing to open door, advance to next stage to open door, listen to this story shit while you do so". I don't see why I had to do all of this in VR. I feel like VR is totally NOT for CORE gamers. People who want to sit down for six or more hours straight and play games. It's Wii waggling all over.

I've never tried VR but what's the problem with the movement? Why can't you just use a joystick to move?

Discrepancies in the perception of motion cause sickness. The extent to which this occurs depends on numerous factors about the subject and the particulars of the simulation.

This isn't the vr we were waiting for, who wants to stand up and flail around? Where's the vr you can use while sitting in a corner of a concrete gray room in your own filth?

Your minions are working on it, Zuck, but they are frustrated by the inelegant intricacies of the human brain. "This isn't how I would have designed it," says the frustrated engineer, as he struggles to build his own cage.

I think it's very doable. They have made machines that can detect patterns in thought, which is advanced enough to tell what type of object one is thinking of. Only a matter of time.

>t. eyelet

Porn will lead to adaptation, just like it did with DVD, bluray and streaming

VR is pretty cool. The tech is there you really feel like you are in the game. The problem is they don't know what to do with it other than gimmick/arcade stuff.

the problem is the only people developing for it right now are indie retards who only make vr games because they can't sell a conventional game to save their life.

VR should be just a monitor glued in your head rather than Kinect waggleshit to be successful.

>
which begs the question where the fuck are the valve vr games? Did gabe eat them?

>It's already starting to die
>starting
It was dead when it first released. All the autists got it already as baker reward.

>eye infections
god you are retarded

fat cunt

maybe you aren't as "hardcore" as you think user.

Double niggers jump in the hatebandwagon
the only down side is: ____expensive____

>sickness: fixed
>teleport walk: fixed

some good game that niggers and/or poorfags hate without even take a look.

I just wish Robo Recall was a full game instead of 3 levels

I read a news article that Macy's is going to have VR to simulate furniture in your room. Honestly I'd imagine Ikea doing something like that

There's interesting applications, but only a few developers are utilizing VR properly. I own a rift, and most of the programs involve shooting. Some stuff is pretty good tho, like Gorn and H3. Arktika 1 is pretty cool too.

I wish I wasnt afraid of heights. Can't play on the third level/rooftops when the vertigo hits.

you can actually use joystick normally

It's from a Visual novel called Rondo Duo.
You're welcome.

>high costs
>you can get it on a sale for $300

Try growing up and working a job. The "high cost" is only high because you're a middleschooler who gets coddled by his parents.

based

>get a job so you can afford to play video games

user you need to get your priorities straight

it's niche af but you can get an okay vr setup for

it isn't the price that will kill it
don't worry about the premium headsets that cost so much money
you can be doing VR with your phone for about $40 and it works just fine

the issue is the content absolutely sucks for VR, the games are
1. short
2. don't utilize the vr at all and could be just fine as regular first person games
3. are glorified tech demos that are neat for 5 minutes until the gimmick wears off

select all that apply

game formats are content driven, blame the fact there is nothing thats a "must play" experience on VR. Because lemme tell you, rail shooters aren't going to cut it

Have some insider info for you...

>too expensive to produce anything but mainstream scenes
>the participants have to act towards the (unseen) VR user, which makes the shoots even more demanding and expansive.
>majority of users constantly skip through the scene, which is very stressful in VR.
>promotion clips for websites take extra effort, since you have to avoid cuts and can't have ad pop-ups
>just like other sex-toys, the headset becomes a nuisance fast

all i can say is that it's amazing for racing games. gran turismo sport vr is and incredible experience. i can't wait to try a flight sim with a vr headset.

Future is augmented reality. Not sure if VR in its current iteration will be that.

>$350
high cost

I mean, VR started getting recognition what, 1 year ago? It's gonna take 5-6 years for developers to make games for the system.

In order for be to achieve widespread market penetration devs need to embrace waifu games. That is, games that let you be the waifu.

>got rift two monts ago
>Expected disappointment
>it's actually not and i can't stop playing vrchat with people from here
>Onward is pretty cool too
It's just need better games.
O heard Overwatch was playable with vr until blizzard blocked it... what a shame

I'd like to see VR based in an arena for free movement. Get something like laser tag in an arcade.

A dream come true

Attached: meme.webm (580x692, 2.89M)

there's a couple of games in VRchat, gold rush, capture the flag

>VR Headset that can read your brainwaves for movement

This is probably the only thing that will make it mainstream. Everything else is still a bit clumsy

You can and it works great if you don't have a rarted brain

Attached: h3vr02.webm (600x716, 2.72M)

learn to read

I watched that team 5 podcast too.

gemme creator key please

Is that a Bolter pistol?

any good flight sims use VR yet?

cost will come down

nobody wants to wear heavy shit on thier head for hours at a time tho. so its just a fad
