Curse of Monkey Island is on GoG now. Why aren't you playing the last great adventure game ever made?

There have been plenty good adventure games since then.
You don't realize this because all you're playing is AAA trash.
The genre stopped being popular, that's all. Games like this are still being made, and good ones at that.
Is it English version only, or do they have other dubs?
>no examples
Discsrded bait
it's on steam too
Because I own it on CD and have already played it a dozen times
Daedelic has done a ton of point and click adventure games, some are really good
Does it work well on modern machines or they just run it via SCUMM?
Just download it and test it. It's a free game.
goggames.goodolddownloads.com
>Figure out the case long before you're supposed to
>Still be forced to go through the motions to complete it because the game won't let you point out the obvious
Worse than 'use everything on everything' adventure game logic.
SCUMM.
Is not free user, sure you can pirate it, but is not free.
I just replayed it last summer. And I accidentally managed to duplicate an item.
HAHAHAHAHAHA
*inhales*
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Was meant to be a reply to . Ace Attorney is trash.
The absolute state of nu-Sup Forums.
Is this a better pirate simulator than Sea of Thieves?
Now they need to get Escape Monkey Island and the classic Monkey Island 1 & 2 on their site
OH SNAP!...
> last great adventure game ever made
Are you serious? Don't you know you can play both of those with the old graphics as well?
>Why aren't you playing the last great adventure game ever made?
because it's not on GOG yet
my nigga
>and the classic Monkey Island 1 & 2
- Launch Monkey Island Special Edition 1 or 2
- Press F10
Done. Only thing you'll have to sit through the new intro.
>the last great adventure game ever made
That's not a screenshot of Grim Fandango
Grim Fandango is not good. Fight me.
Art direction is lazy and worse than the original and the humor is terrible.
Is The Dig worth grabbing? I remember people praising it decades ago but never got around to it. How does it fare these days?
Played it some time ago, liked it a lot, even that retarded sceleton puzzle
I want to play Monkey Island 1 with the old graphics and voice overs
I don't fight retards.
But you can
If you mean old voice overs there were none
God I hate this thing
The Dig is quite bad IMO. The story isn't great and a lot of the puzzles are obtuse "Guess what the designers thought of" affairs that fly in the face of what you might actually think to do in those situations.
>a lot of the puzzles are obtuse
That's to be expected from LucasArt games though, so i don't mind that.
The truth stings, doesn't it?
Yeah but I found them even more obtuse than usual.
The Monkey Island games could get obtuse but you could also go far on funny joke logic just by asking yourself "What would be funny here." The Dig just has puzzles where the answers make no sense even after you do what you were supposed to do.
Everyone also gets mad at the skeleton puzzle but there are far worse ones on offer - not in terms of difficulty, but in terms of "But WHY."
I just did a fresh install of XP on an old pc and the start up jingle legit made my balls tighten. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug

Knock yourself out.
If we ignore of the horrible inventory system,It is the best point and click.
I like ace attorney but there is nothing adventurous about it.
Beautiful, thank you.
Installing Max Pain 1 now, lads. Going to try rogue spear afterwards and then the big test: Pandora Tomorrow...TODAY
Thimbleweed Park.
Played it 20 years ago
By far. Especially aesthetically.
>It is the best point and click.
Incorrect.
Is it actually good or you just memeing on me? Have the iso file but never got around to install it
It's pretty great, not everyone out there is trying to meme the fuck out of you.
The first game doesn't use voiced dialogue in retro mode.
>whole game is hyping me to the uncovering of the mystery
>an ending so shit and so disppointing that i deleted the game and didn't talk about for months
why ron ? whyyyy?
Because people didn't complain enough about the ending of Monkey Island 2 I guess. In any case, the mystery itself was never the point.
You can actually get the voices to the original game and you need to rip the files from the Special Edition
Because it's just emulating the SCUMMVM version, which I already have.
That game is pretty shit desu. It's short as shit, some of the puzzles are irritating and it lacks the humour most of these games have. By puzzles being irritating I mean I got frustrated last time I played because I quickly figured out what I was supposed to achieve but not sure how to actually perform it. I don't remember details but comparable to a situation where you know you need to lock someone to a cage but don't know how to close the cage and it turns out there's a button for it on some weird part of the screen or in another room.
>Louis Castle explained the source code and assets were lost when Westwood moved its studio from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, thus making a re-release or a HD-remaster impossible. Even if the code was found, to restore almost a terabyte of assets, whether for new pre-rendered backdrops or full real-time 3D, would cost tens of millions of dollars, making a re-release as unlikely as a sequel.
because you got things mixed up. In monkey island 2,the ending was never the point. Hell, the lechuck return story didn't begin until the second third of the game Everyone was predicting an other victory for guybrush like in the first game and didn't care that much about the story. So the ending of mI2 was a nice surprise and it was meant to be continued in the next game.
On the other side almost everything in thimblweed was centered about the mystery of the factory and its owner chuck....
The game was still nice at some points especially in hotel sections but it left a pretty bad taste for me...
i beat the whole thing on hard mode in a single 2-3 hour sitting, not even needing to stop to think
apparently i still remember how to do every fucking puzzle in the game by heart despite not playing it for well over a decade
how do i lobotomize myself so i can enjoy figuring things out for the first time again?
It's short, sure, but well-paced and covers everything it needs to. Maybe overpriced back in the day, but that problem tends to fix itself. Also it was totally funny, just the humor was more subdued or in the corners and not front and center.
I'll totally cop to the wall-kicking puzzle being complete and absolute bullshit though.
because adventures are shit and will always be shit
I know that feeling.
Same here. It took me 5 hours because I wanted to talk to every single character about every single thing and examine everything just to see if I had missed any joke from the previous times I played it.
I think I missed a couple of insults, but after two or three times trying to goad the hardest pirates to tell me new ones I just went "fuck it" and defeated René.
what went wrong?
early 3D engines were a mistake
It looks like shit and it controls like shit. Otherwise it's good.
Fucking everything, even the main theme was simply reused from 3, cut short and plopped into the game with no care or love put into it
We'll surely avoid scurvy if we all eat an orange.
The graphics, the controls, the bugs, oh the bugs... The trick to beating the final boss.
Other than that a good game.
you mean besides the early 3D era graphics that aged like milk and needing to patch the game to even be able to play it on modern PCs? the cancerous tank controls and the fact the game stops being an adventure game and becomes a tedious and unfun chore of building and referencing a spreadsheet for monkey combat the second it's is introduced. literally the second that shit shows up it's time to close the game and never touch it again until you forget it exists
it's still an above average adventure game until that point in my opinion
uh, door hinge?
>The trick to beating the final boss.
the trick is a fucking blessing, monkey combat is fucking garbage
Shitty locations, hideous early 3D engine graphics, bad controls, monkey kombat, the robot, LeChuck being a pawn of some retard, really unfunny jokes that somehow date themselves far worse than the previous 3, Guybrush became Homer Simpson, Elaine had a shitty voice, and much more
>The trick to beating the final boss.
Oh, I forgot all about that. That was retarded. The monkey kombat is pretty refreshing though as you actually need to write down the actions and which move beats which one as they're randomised each game. It's not just memorising the answers and receiving them from opponents.
The only joke that made me laugh was when you can't take Pegnose's welcome mat because Guybrush days it wouldn't be very neighborly and even then that's mostly from Dominic's delivery
Is there really no way to, like, reverse engineer a released version of the game? I'm tech illiterate but I know some of the bluepoint remasters for example are done by using what's on release discs
It's funny thinking back to the era of PC gaming culture where Guybrush and LeChuck, Gabriel Knight , Sam&Max etc were recognized and beloved characters.
Its not very good. It pretends to be as if you found an unopened game from the lucasarts heyday but it just copies all the trappings of the genre without being a very good example. It gets caught up trying too hard to be a lucasarts game and it's full of modern shit.
Ron is a pretty retarded level of sjw and it shows in the game. Even the guy who does the art phoned it in, drawing everything in Photoshop and pixel acting it afterward, no constraints in palette or anything it's just a Frankenstein mess full of random humor trying to cash in on a nostalgia wave that was basically already over.
Ron is a hack and a charlatan, as evidenced by MI3 being good without his involvement but his own game without the other guys is absolute shite.
Yeah, a ton of people praised it but when I played it it just came off as bland and unfunny. I think I liked Paradigm more.
Is Curse better than Secret?
No.
Guybrush got a cameo in Uncharted 4.
That's a shame.
Not a point and click game.
It's abandonware. There are custom installers online that you can use to run the game with no hassle.
Yes.
It's great for Murray, but it's not as good as the first two MI games.
I always thought so
Should I get this, Maniac Mansion, or I Have No Mouth?
The average Unsharted Sony brony probably didn't even recognize him
is tales any good? i'm guessing not since
>telltale
What are some of your favorite adventure games Sup Forums?
I'm partial to penumbra and black mirror myself. I also remember playing having a good time playing dark fall with my mom when it came out. Spooked the fuck out of younger me.
all of them
>Maniac Mansion
You mean Day of the Tentacle?
MM if you want to play a fun classic game or I Have No Mouth if you hate yourself, your life and humanity
Curse definitely.
They are... ok. Nothing to write home about but decent games either way.
shouldn't I play them in order?
The PS2 version is actually better to play.
Played it in preparation for 2049, turned out to be shit.
They're terrible but it was nice to hear Guybrush and LeChuck's voices again in a modern game even if the writing was shit
MM is fully playable in DoT
good to know, thanks
