Is this game actually fun? It's on sale so it's now or never for me.
Would you recommend it like you would Persona 5 and Yakuza 0?

yes
since you're a weeb even moreso

I personally can say yes.
I'd never played any of the Nier / Taro's games before, and grabbed the PC port during the -50% sale couple weeks ago (actually got it even cheaper via CD key shops, but wutev...).

Now I'm clocking over 65 hours to it, and I can say it's like crack. It has that unique atmosphere of its own, with various interesting themes - that while not necessarily that original or new any more - are still interesting lil' philosophical nuts to wonder about.

It also requires quite a bit of time (and "replays") to get the full picture, which IMO is just a plus.

>Would you recommend it like you would Persona 5 and Yakuza 0?
Absolutely. Just played P5 for some 170 hours before Nier:A, and both are easily worth their GOTY-contender statuses, alongside with the Zelda:BotW.

GOTY. P5 and BOTW can eat a bag of dicks.

Is there a pirate friendly version of FAR?

It's a visual novel with some combat minigames on the side
If you're into that, it's fuckin' great

sorry mate. BotW won GOTY + a few other awards, while Nier:A only got the "audience's award".

All three are superb games, and not only by modern standards.

I am afraid of your mental health, user. You just typed something extremely idiotic.

Personal GOTY then.

Its strange, the moment to moment gameplay is good but theres plenty of shit in there like most side missions and the random crashes i've experienced.
That being said I do agree that the game is special, the story and gameplay may not be some magnum opus but the package as a whole is good, specially if you can get it cheap.

The combat is completely inconsequential. There's no challenge with the free instantaneous unlimited healing, and you end up running past most of it anyway. There's no reason to engage with it unless you want to grind 80 hours for Emil. The combat is only there to say "Hey, imagine how cool a game like this would be if it were focused on combat, but this one isn't"

yeah as long as you don't get it on pc, the port is absolute trash

It's good.

Most detractors are platinum fanboys who expect an open world RPG to have combat as deep as Bayonetta/DMC4, or people who only bought it for 2B's ass

>paying attention to the Game Awards when the Sup ForumsGAs exist

>The combat is completely inconsequential
How can that be, when failing at combat can lead to literal Game Over ?

>There's no challenge with the free instantaneous unlimited healing, and you end up running past most of it anyway.
There is a varying length of phase during when you do not have access to such things, and death can indeed take you any second. The very first bossfight gave me my first "ending".

>There's no reason to engage with it unless you want to grind 80 hours for Emil.
Making your character better and gameplay more fun is not a good enough reason?

What are you even trying to say?

Automata swept the Sup ForumsGAs
BOTW only won comfy award

>Automata swept the Sup ForumsGAs
So a sicrit online club of Anonymous people have more credibility with their "awards" than an actually public event with notable members of the industry holding and participating the scene?

>BOTW only won comfy award
The fact that there's even such "category" should say a lot about the quality of the thing you call "awards"

Not him but I'd say they have the exact same amount of credibility.

It's impossible to fail at combat because of the healing, unless you're braindead and can't open the menu fast enough. Failing at the first boss fight is fucking HARD because they give you a dozen AUTO-USE heals, and as soon as you reach the rebel camp you have access to extremely cheap healing items. The only way to get any challenge out of the game is to play on the OHKO difficulties, which is pointlessly masochistic since the game uses a traditional savepoint system and you're losing maybe half an hour of progress and you are rewarded with nothing for doing it. This is very much by design, it's Yoko poking fun at people trying to treat the game in that way.

>Making your character better and gameplay more fun is not a good enough reason?
To fight what? There's nothing out there, dude. Yeah, the combat's fun to muck around with, but it doesn't mean anything. The game needs it, of course - the combat is there to let you emphasize with the conflict between characters, and give you time to contemplate the story and soak in the atmosphere - but the act of combat itself has almost no importance in the game. It costs you nothing, it gives you nothing.

It's my favorite game of all time. It's the only game I've found that used the medium for decent philosophical inquiry.

You absolutely must not stop at the first play through.

>thinking x awards have credibility but y rewards don't

the combat is fun, story is subjective for everyone.
I recommend you don't do the side quest until you unlock fast travel because this game does literally nothing with its open world except stretch side quest for the sake of artificially elongation the game with it. apparently it's a common thing for yoko to do, which is stupid and doesn't excuse it.

at least there is actually fast travel in this one
I never had a problem with automata's sidequests since most were story-relevant or had some fun gimmick (races, jackass challenges, game dev machine) but the original nier's were trash

>the opinion of the public matters more than the opinion of Sup Forums when arguing on Sup Forums
sasuga reddit

>unless you're braindead and can't open the menu fast enough
I didn't actually realize you had an item menu on Select button before some 30 hours into the game. It also takes a few seconds for the Auto-Use items to kick in, at which point you can easily be pummeled to death.

>traditional savepoint system
This has actually been shown to cause problems with casuals, as fuckers just can't seem to remember to save their game, thus losing "hours of progress" at once.

>all those salt posts from people who ate the mackerel without saving every time the game goes on sale

Attached: 1512792570482.jpg (319x310, 45K)

>Would you recommend it like you would Persona 5 and Yakuza 0?
Absolutely

After all the hype that route A creates, the game pretty much dies on route B, but keep up strong and in route C shit goes fucking crazy, it's nuts

>there are people who DON'T save before every major event, and DON'T keep multiple save states in case SHTF

>the game pretty much dies on route B
wut?

Attached: 1492765209666.png (680x731, 392K)

Yeah, I would. I liked it the least out of those 3 you mentioned but it's still pretty good.

Don't buy it on PC.

Route B is fine
I like the hacking, new sidequests, and different prologue/everything after flooded city

The PC version is fine and the best one with FAR.

Yes, it's better than Persona 5 at least.

It is NOT even remotely a visual novel lmao you just made that up

Fitgirl

imo route B was pretty tiring, the hacking got tedius for me and I really started to dislike the open world after going through it again a second time. I was just teleporting around and the game was tuning out for me when it wasn't in that interesting part where you see the tragic backstory behind every place.
It really starts to pick up steam around the end tho when it really becomes it's own thing, it's just a slog in the beginning.

Route C? Fucking PUMPED since minute 1, crazy shit after crazy shit after crazy shit and then the title drops and you're just there, looking at the TV with a dumb look on your face. It's great.

I've played every inch of this game, friend

Where is it on sale?

Europe

Just play it. It was worth all my time put into it.

Humble Bundle

>the hacking got tedius for me

So just don't do it? People complain that hacking gets boring when you use it on every enemy when it's their choice to play in such a monotonous way

Will I hate this game if I hate anime and weeb shit?

>group of enemies
>hack strong enemy
>he will wipe the floor with others in seconds
>go in combat
>it takes fucking forever because 9S is just shit
People use hacking because out of two shit options hacking is better, but it's still shit.

This whole gen summed up in a single post basically

Attached: 844E459C-9CD7-493F-8F6A-3B0A65BADBB4.png (801x534, 371K)

Why are you on Sup Forums?

For the gaming news.

>go in combat
>it takes fucking forever because 9S is just shit

>he didn't use spears

The 9S route is fucking cancer. I just want to play the C route...

>this retard doesn't understand how broken 9S' melee is

>group of enemies
>ignore them

Disliking his route is always a sign of the shittiest taste, user.

ass game for normies

Unless you have a gamepad it's not worth owning

No.
Gameplay is shit. Story is plebbit-tier 2deep4you garbage.

>no
>no
Not even baiting. I was looking forward to this game.

100%

the one bad thing about the game is the level / difficulty progression, if you do sidequests you'll have a good challenge because enemies are all 10 levels higher than you, but then you come back to the main quest and get a hyped up boss battle and it's over before the boss can scratch you since he's 10 levels lower than you
unironically should've had level scaling

It's got nothing to do with anime/weeb shit, but it is overtly Japanese if that means anything to you. The most anime thing in the game is the heavy-handed and obvious symbolism and philosophy references.

Great game, just don't buy it on PC. Pirate it or buy for console.

I did but it doesn't make the combat fun, so you choices are hold and release until everyone is dead or stupid hacking minigame you have to do once with right enemy and he will annihilate everything that will come close to you for some time.
>play on normal
>9S lvl 46 vs enemies lvl 30
You should see what A2 can do with this toy.

It's a $19.99 game that is constantly bouncing between $35 and $49.99.

2017 was a great year for videogames due to quantity, not quality. This is a repetitive dodge-fest with a unique soundtrack. The story itself is predictable dogshit, and Taro should have been run out of the industry over a decade ago.

Yakuza 0 is more story driven and far better due to all of the twists and changes in the story.

Attached: Bullhorn.jpg (550x550, 19K)

If you like Toobie, no.

>dichotomy
Just charge up a tier 3 pod program and remove everything
Or just don't fight, there are very few fights in B that you actually have to take

It's fucking great. Don't read too much before playing. Just remember that you should keep playing even if credits roll. The first credit roll is just the start.

>You should see what A2 can do with this toy.
A2 doesn't have a ranged DPS move as ridiculous as 9S fist throw.

So you're a brainlet who stopped at ending A?

>waaah waaah i'm shit at the game

Attached: hackerman.webm (720x480, 2.76M)

Buy it on PC

Attached: played time.png (317x134, 68K)

Where is this on sale?

read the thread.

When you get to route C some of the biggest reveals are in the archives or other text based shit. Might as well be a visual novel. Not to mention A2's backstory is purely text based, Devola and Popola's backstory is purely text based, and the shit with 9S's "death" is purely text.

Talk about minimal effort.

Not for burgers I'm guessing?

Should I play it with a gamepad on PC?

>if you didn't like it you only played to ending A
Tarofags, everyone.

Is drakengard 3 worth playing? Is it really as bad as everyone says?

t. girl who liked Nier and Automata and got true endings on each

>Would you recommend it like you would Persona 5 and Yakuza 0?
Absolutely. Play the first game before tho

Attached: 1518332354561m.jpg (940x1024, 149K)

its fun af but the story tries really hard to make you sweat tears
and that's not even mentioning Emil

I don't care if it is made by Platinum and is considered good. If I only have a female fap fodder or a sissy boipussy mess as playable characters, I will never play it. They are on the same level for me as SJW-apewomen with afro in most of the modern AAA-titles.

Attached: 1521485478184.jpg (288x288, 14K)

It's vastly different from both Nier games but yeah it's worth trying out. Also yes it's Taro's most polarizing game.

Attached: 1490639907269.png (1243x620, 494K)

>girl

Why do you need to clarify that you happen to have a vagoo insteado of a benis on an anonymous forum? Are you retarded?

those text scenes are way more kino than anything that could have been done with the engine's cutscenes anyway, some things are just better in text format, that last example especially

Drakengard 3's gameplay is awful but its got a good story

Are you new here? Ignore the attentionwhore. Sage, hide, move on. Simple. Since 2004 this was the only tactic.

So just like Nier? Or worse?

because the only way to get serious replies on this board is to bait

thanks I'll probably pick it up, it's only £15 or so. I know nothing about drakengard except that 3 is a prequel to 1 and the true ending of 1 leads to Nier

>There are faggots who didn't play the opening on Hard and Route B on Very Hard

You guys have no idea what you missed.

>It also takes a few seconds for the Auto-Use items to kick in, at which point you can easily be pummeled to death.
Then you use an anti-chain damage chip and become invincible. I love the game but it's really difficult to die on normal and the balance gets fucked once you obtain or fuse some good chips

Attached: 1519565259595.png (1247x1400, 330K)

Why is N2 so cute, bros?

Attached: n2 terminal.jpg (1280x720, 93K)

I dont like Automata, but Anonymous has more credibility and your dumb shit awards shows.

Some DoD1 fans didn't like it because it's more of a (very) dark comedy compared to the first game's serious tone and Nier fans didn't like it because it's not Nier. The gameplay isn't that bad but the framerate is fucking terrible.
Make sure you watch (or buy if you're swimming in money and want to give some to Taro) the sisters' DLCs on youtube if you like the game.

Attached: 43723331_p0.png (819x926, 596K)

if i didn't know that taro can't speak a lick of english i'd swear D3 was a result of taro discovering TheDarkId's let's plays.

So you have maybe half an hour of text reading on a visual novel format inside a 30+ hour game and that makes it a visual novel

Attached: 1513643311050.jpg (1504x1393, 107K)

Is this game worth buying if you already pirated it and got all the way past ending D and to the credits part of ending E?

>Then you use an anti-chain damage chip and become invincible
stuff that you may not even get before 20h into the game.

Yes.

Elaborate.

>(or buy if you're swimming in money and want to give some to Taro)
Taro wont get shit from that.

>stuff that you may not even get before 20h into the game.
You can buy them from the machines at pascal's village and get them from the forest kingdom machines at like 4 hours into route A

Attached: 1512298501550.jpg (415x565, 69K)

I do wish the hacking had a bit more depth to it (and also that you didn't have to sneak up on dudes to subjugate), but it does make sense in that it prepares you for some of the later stuff and Ending E.

The fact that hacking seamlessly turns the BGM into an "8-bit" style was great aside you can only listen for ~8 seconds

Attached: NHK PERFECTION.png (286x250, 53K)

As long as you are not expecting something like nier you will enjoy it, the gameplay is better than nier, its fast and weapons feel good to use, the problem is the god awful artificial intelligence, if you can even call it like that, and the levels are kinda lame, but the characters definitely make up for it, zero is kaine on steroids to put it simply

Attached: 1.png (850x850, 409K)

>The fact that hacking seamlessly turns the BGM into an "8-bit" style was great aside you can only listen for ~8 seconds

You can listen to them in the resistance camp jukebox , or force 8bit music anywhere using the debug menu you get for clearing ending C/D.

It auto generates 8bit versions for songs that don't have them already, using audio filters and shit. Platinum wrote a cool blog article on it
