Crash is a real possibility that wouldn't exactly shock people now, but would generate hype. Having a literal playstation exclusive character like Cloud or legends like Mega Man/Pacman generated retarded amounts of hype and probably can't be replicated again. The safe thing to do is try and get these characters to return, if they don't it'll be a rather disappointing entry.
