no that's the 3DS version
It's a turn based game so not very similar to Secret of Mana at all, the 3DS version has the enemies in the overworld but when you touch them you transition to the battle, so the 3DS version is like a mix of Chrono Trigger's system that you see enemies and the usual JRPG fare, while the PS2 version has random encounters and no enemies walking around.

I don't emulate games on my PC, but I do play them on modded consoles. I'm awaiting the day I can play Haunting Ground in peace. That one game was the whole reason I even bothered to softmod my PS2.
OP, you better beat Burnout 3. I put that game on hiatus after clearing the World Tour mode. I still have to do that American Indy Car race.
