Is he right? Is SFV to blame for everything wrong in the FGC?

>SFV was propped as the "savior of the FGC" the thing that would save us from the HORRIBLE life that was USF4, the thing that would breathe new life into the community.

I won't even bother to address the rest of this, but this especially is blatantly untrue.

SFV is great though. As someone who used to play in arcades with SF2, the original before turbo, it’s probably the closest to capturing that feeling.

Care to elaborate as to why?

Vappa is always wrong. Their supposed latest savior of the FGC, DBFZ, is already dying.

That’s the point. The guy is saying people who hated SFV painted SFV in such a negative light that when games do worse than what it’s doing, it’s hard to even look at those games with a degree of positivity. They’re saying “lol look at SFV, it only got 100k numbers, it’s dying.” And then when DBZF can only manage to get 40k numbers, it looks even worse by comparison and people thinks the entire scene is dying.

He's not blaming SFV, he's blaming vappa.

But he's not blaming SFV primarily, he's blaming people who blame SFV.

I know. I’m just telling you guys. SFV is great.

SFV is unironically great. SFIV gave birth to a generation of shitters because there were so many gimmicks to rely on instead of proper fundamentals. They just hate SFV with a passion cause they suck at it.

He's basically revising history to make it sound like it was a popular opinion that SFV was going to "save" the FGC, but if anything the opposite was true. Even in the early days of the beta, opinions were divided on the game, and many people were worried about technical issues like input lag, Zenny, no arcade mode, and the netcode, but also the timing of release being so soon after USF4. People felt like Ultra hadn't been developed enough to already send it off and move onto a new game. Yeah, people had issues with USF4, there's no doubt about that. Red focus, Rolento, and Elena were pretty huge points of contention against the game, but overall the FGC was in a good spot. Xrd and Tekken 7 were fresh, KI was out, Evo that year had nine fucking main games because so many fighting games were out and active.

Nobody was waiting on bated breath for SFV to save a scene that didn't need saving. People were just waiting to see what the damage would be with a barebones launch and just hoped the game could stand on its own two feet without being propped up by the CPT.

That is literally true, everyone in the FGC were saying shit like SFV is going to be honest, can’t do that vortex anymore, etc

Combofiend, gootecks, Valle, James Chen, etc. All the lapdogs were shilling for SFV HARD

Kept going back to HONEST gameplay of an unreleased game in SFV.

There are no fundamentals in SFV, only rushdown mixup gameplay

SFV literally killed 2 fundamentals, zoning and setplay, which were present in SF4

>2 fundamentals

Oxymoron

>setplay
>fundmentals

salty 09er detected.

I agree with you on zoning though, although Guile is the exception to that rule.

>everyone in the FGC were saying shit like SFV is going to be honest, can’t do that vortex anymore, etc
You're not only a liar, you're a retard too. Yes, there were some shills, but the overall opinion was negative.
SFV got shit from day 1.

isn't this a dev at SNK?

Nobody who had a voice in the FGC criticised SFV when it was in beta. In fact you will find the common excuse when outside people complained was
>it’s just a beta, the NetCode will be fixed at release
>who needs p2 accept rematch
>arcade mode? Go play survival
>wait for the story mode come July

>Nobody who had a voice in the FGC criticised SFV when it was in beta
Neck yourself you retard.

I agree with him that people believed that SFV would remove the many OptionSelects that top players used and therefore would shakeup the meta and give large amounts of non Japanese players a chance to dominate. To an extend that is true since people love complaining about Japs getting "randomed out"

But he's dead on about there being more vocal spectator E-Sports fans who don't even play casually online but love to watch and bitch about everything and generally be insufferable people. This comes with the territory of being on the twitch front page often enough.

No, but it has certainly ruined the mood of the FGC. The great created a bad atmosphere and thus people who feed off that and others who wish to prove SFV is actually great and everyone loves it. Having the top game be so contentious is going to breed a negative environment

It is the esports push in general that is the real problem, it makes the FGC lose all personality just so some make a bit of money. That esports arena event showed that production values certainly won't go up, at best you get a flashy stage and long breaks. Basically the FGC isn't what people liked any more, and there is no game big enough/hitting it right so that new players are brought in.

Nah people pushed SFV hard as a saviour that would revitalise the scene, another SF4 was expected and it was only at launch that opinion really changed.

Nice argument, please keep rewriting history

Here is how all it started

The honest game, SFV. Shortly after the FGC went hard on this, saying America is all about being honest and SFV will be our game.

No more oki!

Remember all the old has beens like Graham Wolfe were totally going to dominate again cause the game was all about honesty?

No, he works for hitbox.
