masterpiece in open world questing. lacking in open world exploration. greatest OST ever made for a game. cannot fucking wait for skyblivion.

Me either, or Skywind for that matter!

fallout 3 is better than new vegas

One of the most dissapointing games ive ever played in my life. Absolute garbage.

>Releasing dev tools disguised as modkit to get people to fix our games for us while we charge for horse armor
Beginning to the end

It's shit.

>this desu
coming off of Morrowind, it is clear Bethesda wanted to appeal to the lowest common denominator, the casual gamer, and they succeeded. It is really too bad, they could have taken what they did in Morrowind and iterated on that, instead they threw away everything that made it great and casualized the franchise.

But still better than Morrowind :(

i tried to replay it recently

modded the hell out of it, got to kvatch and realized it's shit

Better than fucking Skyrim.

A mix of brilliance and unbelievably retarded game design

If this casualized the franchise, what did Skyrim do? I get that Morrowind was amazing upon release, but I wasn’t a gamer at the time, and I tried to play it...goddamn. Tedious!

You're a fucking piece of shit. Get some taste you cunt.

main quest shit
side quests fun

It was ok.

It's the perfect game for if you wanna feel like you're playing a game that would exist in ReBoot.

Lol tone down the level 9000 autism

>setting is most generic of the post-2000 elder scrolls
>more rpg elements removed from morrowind
>graphically, everything has aged like milk
I do like Oblivion, but it’s got a lot of flaws. Unlike Skyrim, the quests aren’t all complete shit and the RPG system is in tact. This makes it a lot more satisfying to mod, even if Oblivion is a pain in the ass to mod. The combat system is a less odd than Morrowind, but the game is weaker than both its predecessor and successor on a lot of important fronts. Even morrowind looks better than Oblivion today, bar the shitty character models, as it has a unique and consistent artstyle. It’s definitely the best Elder Scrolls to mod if you don’t just want a porn game/waifu simulator, though.

I actually like the main quest. When you arrive in Paradise and Mankar Camoran keeps dropping red pills on you as you fight through his torture cave is just pure kino.

Shivering Isles was good, I guess.

It just needed a loot and level system like morrowind or Skyrim and it would be remember far better. But it really wasn’t that terrible of a game actually.

It wasn’t morrowind so it was to appealing to hardcore plays and it TES was still forgien to console gamers so it probably introduced a lot of people to TES thus carrying up the success for Skyrim

>setting is most generic of the post-2000 elder scrolls

I disagree with this. In terms of fantasy and folklore Skyrim with its mead halls and dragon slaying is as generic as it gets.

nothing really to say at this point, but when it came out it was the definition of immersive.

100% chameleon is fun

I think the generic fantasy setting was deliberate. This was the first TES to really get a major push on concsoles. Morrowind was xbox but it wasn’t until the 360 that I think gaming become more of a universal form of entertainment rather than being just solely for gamers.

A generic fantasy setting is familiar and comfortable to get into. You already have an idea of what to do because you know the mechanics of a standard fantasy world.

I love it for nostalgic reasons.
But with time i realized that Morrowind is the superior game when it comes to World building, setting and atmosphere

Best sidequests in the series. Really livened up the game.

It's aged in visuals, animations, and stiff combat, and its the game that got me into the habit of having three back-up saves for fears of cataclysmic bugs.

But I still look back on the side-quests and sense of atmosphere very fondly. I can't remember a fraction of my game-time wandering around Skyrim, but there are a lot of moments I'll never forget about Oblivion, for better and for worse.

What stands out about Oblivion to me looking back is that despite its issues, the side-quests were what made the whole game worth it.

So many modern open-world games treat side-quests and optional content like a quota to fill, simply giving you a list of chores in-between sections of the main story and calling it a day. But I still remember being excited about every new town in Oblivion, because there were always unique quests to find. You just had to ask around.

i have never played this game but loved fallout 3, nv, 4 and skyrim.

is there some list of mods anywhere that are essential to have? i would like graphics mods too to make things like the grass render further

Check out Bevilex' modlist:

It has load of different mods and choices so you can choose what you want and not.

bookmarked it. cheers

Leveling system is awful and too easy to fuck your character up on accident. Spell creation was great, i just wish they weren't afraid of stats on weapons and actual interesting loot. I wish someone else would try their hand at the genre.

All of this. I remember the game fondly without all the MORROWIND WAS BETTER nonsense. Such a strong game, much better than it gets credit for.

Yeah, I hated how every enemy became a huge damage sponge after you leveled up enough, but I got over it a bit when I realized I could upgrade athletics to the point where I could jump up and across rooftops.

Have you heard of the high elves?

I remember OOO and MOO being core for modding the game

Captivating Intro, charming graphics. RIP Martyn Septim.

Shivering Isles made me realize just how much I want more fantasy games to move beyond the standard brown medieval setting.

Gorgeous

Took this screenshot of SI on my latest playthrough.

The combat and open world are fucking ass

Were any of the Skyrim DLC half as interesting as Shivering Isles?

I always thought that not expanding on the Daedric realms more was a huge wasted opportunity.

Attached: Entering_Shivering_Isles.jpg (750x600, 107K)

The Skyrim dlc really wasn’t bad

This meme needs to die.

Only tried the Dragonborn DLC for Skyrim and it was quite cool. A lot of cool Lore with Miraak as well and i definitely thought it was worth it.

Attached: Oblivion20171107 17.35.56.jpg (1920x1080, 494K)

Why’d they only make two dlcs for Skyrim? They could have made a ton of money

Was there anything as cool as this transition in Skyrim?

They already are making money by selling it three more times at initial release price

>Finally finished modding oblivion
>double check anything, its perfectly green
>play around for a bit, rain is ok graphics are great shadows are great, yep its perfect
>rotate my camera too fast
>it crashes

fuck this shit. brb reinstalling E.Y.E.

Oblivion's biggest weakness was probably Oblivion itself.

Closing your first Oblivion gate was intense and haunting, but when they start popping up like daisies everything the process gets old fast. I think the quest to close most of them was optional looking back, but I still wish they had done more to make the different gates more interesting when they were such a huge plot point of the game.

Really enjoyed it as a teen. Leveling is engaging and I was surprised people hated it once I joined discussions online. Played it recently and I still liked it. Maybe people are more casual than I thought?

very fun the first time around back when the graphics were really good; I spent a whole neet month playing this game and nothing else, I had a blast

parts of the world are very beautiful, the soundtrack is literally my favorite ever, and getting to build up your character and explore and find treasure and fight increasingly strong monsters/animals/undead/demons was just great
some of the quests had unique shit that made them interesting, but most questwork is busybody crap that takes too long
the assassins questline in particular was great

looking back, the voice acting and potato head npcs were bad
the economy was bad, the leveling system was retarded, the dungeons were about the same thing over and over (if you've done maybe 6 of each kind, you've done them all), combat was a swingy unbalanced mess that took too long

skyrim mostly fixed most of those problems, and had far greater graphics to boot, but I didn't like the setting nearly as much, and I didn't like the darker visual tone and usually uglier weapons/armor

Despite all it's flaws, I still find myself turning it on every once in a while. The atmosphere is just so alluring, it really feels like a fantasy adventure more than just about any other game

and dat sexy glass armor

Attached: Glass armor.jpg (819x1024, 243K)

>Maybe people are more casual than I thought?
>being this unaware
Jesus Christ

Maybe I should check it out then. Though I never did buy the game beyond the original 360 version.

Damn, it's easy to forget how long its been.

And it definitely was not stellar either.
Dragonborn was allright, but Dawnguard was lame edgy vampires in dark gothic castle tm.

>and usually uglier weapons/armor
Are you serious

I liked that mage guild thing where you go in the well looking for the missing member and he drowned. So you take that ring and it instantly makes you over encumbered

OMG

This

SO MUCH

EVERYTHING IS TOO AUTISTIC AND EDGY 4 ME

>morrowind lore and world design not GOTYAY
whats your favourite flavour of crayon user?

The music is literally the same in the 2 games lmao dude

Oblivion babies are retarded and will find any reason to justify their delusions

Main problem or MWs combat is the same as in the rest of the series - hitsponges. You can get 100% attack rate and max out strength, but some fucking bug or flying rat still won't die in one hit and armored guy will still take minutes to be chopped.

I loved how the mage's guild forced you to help out in every city to let you in.

Quests like jumping inside the painting and helping a man escape his nightmares were great for mixing things up.

Most shit in Morrowind doesn't have much more than 200 HP and you can easily 3-4 shot enemies if you don't completely gimp yourself by levelling like a moron.

>neutral expression in ctr-c-ctr-v-ion main quest
>sign up for killing vampires
>todd frocec you to bring ancient elder vampire to her father in their ebic stone fortress

I mean the major complaint I saw was that it was too obtuse and you quickly fell behind if you weren't careful about your levelups and skills, but that's exactly why I enjoyed it.

I still remember how excited I was to finally find enough Nirnroot to turn in, only to immediately receive another quest to find even more Nirnroot.

very
skyrim tried to appeal to normie middle-schoolers with it's armor/weapons designs, almost like they were aiming at the 40k audience

Are you mentally retarded or just baiting?
Skyrim is still lightyears ahead on Oblivion's toy armors:

Give examples. Oblivions armor is almost as bad as its faces

>normie
Reddit

25 average damage from most powerful sword * 1.5(strength modifier on 100 str) * 1 (if sword in perfect condition, 0.75 more realistically) / 4 (enemy in good armor) = 10 dmg per hit.

>>todd frocec you to bring ancient elder vampire to her father in their ebic stone fortress
Omg you are so right I hate Skyrim doc now oblivion number one!

A lot of Skyrim armor lost its uniqueness in favor of "similar armor, different color scheme".

Ironic shitposting is still shitposting. You're not funny.

>Only having 100 STR
>Not enchanting your gear
>Never using potions
>What is magic

Hmm sounds real casual..

>expecting to be taken seriously with arguments like yours

Interesting you mention this because apparently there was going to be four planes of oblivion iirc: fire, earth, air, water
But they only finished the fire one before release so all gates were generic fire zone.
>maybe just a rumor pretty sure I read it on Sup Forums years ago

I'm not sure what you mean, Oblivion's leveling being unfriendly to newcomers is one of the most common complaints you'll hear.

>uniqueness
That’s a strange way of saying utter shit. You oblivion babies are unbelievable. The lengths you go to defend that game is unbelievable. Oblivion armor is unique all right, unique shit

I happen to be quite a fan of this game.

Attached: Thumbnail_Large.png (754x424, 522K)

GOAT mod selection

Remember how Skyrim chucked Dragons at you like JRPG random encounters? I'm starting to see a pattern here.

Wait, nobody posted that retarded anti-Oblivion book yet? That's a first for these threads

Attached: GS.png (754x424, 276K)

Having to fight a dragon now and then was no where near as bad as closing countless gates. Don’t even pretend that’s the case

Skyrim isn't that much of a step down from Oblivion really, it just continued a bit along the same path. Morrowind is arguably more casual than Daggerfall as well, but there was a big enough change in style that they're not as easy to compare in that way I think.

>what is shifting goalposts

Not that user but I can post this

Attached: 1507299407049.jpg (5600x1249, 3.55M)

Better in oblivion:
>Steel (silver and blackwood were even better)
>Ebony
>Daedric
>Legion
>Guards
>Fur (skyrim's hide/fur isn't bad though)
>Leather
>Chainmail (skyrim didnt have it)
>Mythril (likewise)
>Glass
>Imperial Dragon Armor (compared to skyrims dragon armors)
>Dark Brotherhood

Better in Skyrim:
>Iron
>Dwarven (still ugly though)
>Orc (this is god tier; bravo skyrim - morrowinds was great too)
>Blades
>Elven (great job here too; oblivions wasnt bad)
>Nightingale
>Dawnguard (better than oblivions crusader armor)
>thieves guild armor

Advanced plate was neat, scaled was not
My favorite armors are mostly up in the oblivion list, which further reinforces my opinion, and most of the armor that you actually see while playing skyrim is ugly shit

When it comes to weapons, some of oblivions did look like toys, and the race is closer, but still favors oblivion IMO

>If this casualized the franchise, what did Skyrim do? I get that Morrowind was amazing upon release, but I wasn’t a gamer at the time, and I tried to play it...goddamn. Tedious!
So it’s true that oblivion is loved here because it’s babies first elder scroll

>Hyper limited choices inconsistent with your advertised faction isn't bad
>Hyper limited dialogue options forcing your character to be one of two extremes while still making you make decisions inconsistent with said extreme isn't bad and sloppy
>Ironic shitposting cancer killing this website is excusable if I don't like your argument

Ironic shitposting is still shitposting. You're not funny.

>When it comes to weapons, some of oblivions did look like toys, and the race is closer, but still favors oblivion IMO
Being this delusional

So yeah for me, the orcish and ebony armors in Skyrim are big offenders, and Deadric has just been pretty shit for all the games. Skyrim's iron and steel is pretty nordic influanced which is fine since Morrowind and Oblivion had more generic knight shit.
I'm not too big on the glass armor in skyrim, but it is going for a more morrowind vibe with it. I personally still prefer a more glass like look from oblivion, however in oblivion it does look fucking ridiculous.
Honestly I think that user was just being too picky, the designs have been pretty on point or at least consistent for a while.

You could try making arguments instead of name calling every time someone says something you don't like.

>I don’t get my way so the dlc is utterly worthless trash
>I hold Skyrim to extreme standards while simultaneously holding oblivion to none
