can we resume the stellaris discussion please? i like this game so far, and i want to git gud. share stories, tips, shit on or defend paradox for reasons, whatever. i want to learn

Making a custom min-maxed empire is OP as fuck

You should play a prefab empire to learn the game and compensate for suboptimal situations.

i made a custom empire without knowing what did what. ive played 3 games with it so far. 2 i deleted because i got my shit wrecked midgame, the third im playing currently and doing ok on. theres only 1 empire that could give me any real problems right now, but ive get 2 fallen empires, the fortress, and the ther drake inside of my territory. im going to try to kill the drake tonight, and im building up my forces to take the gaia worlds from the zealot fallen empire asap. im short on planets (almost all planets inside my territory are garbage and i havent gotten terraforming tech yet) and my resource income has been a little fucky due to the size of my fleets. fleet strength is 50k or so

Is it possible to counter a neighboring fallen empire? Or is it just inevitable vasseldom? They have fleets of 200k power.

Play ES2 instead

I was in this game deep for a while, but have taken a good long break.

Is the planetary weapons expansion any good? I heard they reworked FTL and combat which is good.

The dominant strat before that was to make one massive doom fleet and just fly it around wherever you needed it using wormholes. Pretty boring especially when other players were good at kiting your fleet.

ES2 is fine but the late game bloat is even worse than stellaris.

i tbaited them into sending out their fleets, all i saw was one that had 90k power. im on normal. seems like you just have to beef up your navy until you can take them head on

i dont have apocalypse, but i have the other expansions. i like it a lot so far. war overhaul takes some getting used to

bump
dont you die on me

Some tips for beginners and people who are new to 2.0

First, get the 2.0.2 beta. Until it goes live, the initial 2.0.1 patch is basically unplayable and filled with bugs.

Stations are more than just shipyards and defensive strongholds. Any station in a system with a colonized planet can use modules that produce 4 energy (6 with an early game tech that lets you build a module that enhances the rest)

This means you can make starbases that produce 36 energy each. You'll often find the difference between players who comment on energy being so abundant that it's useless and players who say they can never produce enough energy to deploy one fleet without going negative comes entirely from this one strategy.

Right now the current fleet meta is that destroyers and cruisers are completely useless. Without getting in to too much detail, it has to do with the way ship targeting works. If you use a mixed fleet, generally each class of ship gets targeted in sequence, meaning the fire is much more focused. If it's all corvettes, it gets split a lot.

Battleships are weaker per mineral invested than corvettes, but the new retreat mechanic means they are far more likely to survive the battle, meaning it costs less to replace losses over time.

Depends on the empire

The more malleable ones (Xenophile, Materialist, Spiritualist) can be kept neutral with relative ease, then you can use the endgame crises to divide and conquer

Unless you're highly specialized for combat your 50K fleets are more or less useless against a Fallen Empire.

You can't kill Fallen Empires with attrition either. You'd be better off with AI allies to distract them or waiting until you can rock 120k minimum.

playing on latest non-beta version. early in the game and I've met a ship of empire that I don't get a project to research. the ship just sits there and I guess I could shoot it down. is that a bug?

other than that, can a game started on 2.0.1 be continued on that beta patch?

yeah

You can get better results vs fallen empires with either battleships loaded with lightning weapons or corvettes with disrupters+torpedos.

FE ships have very little hull, so anything that bypasses shields and armor gives you a huge edge vs them. Alternatively, if you can lure them to a pulsar system (All shields are stripped of all ships while in a pulsar system) while having your ships with pure armor + hull boosting modules, you can strip them of their shields while having your defense completely intact.

Not sure, it's hard to say if that's a bug or not, depending on the circumstances. It's weird if you aren't getting a research option in the situation log though.

You can continue a game from 2.0.1 on the beta patch, but some things that are broken will stay broken unless you start a new game. (Some things, like the Enigmatic Fortress, are completely broken in 2.0.1, so if it's been initiated, it's broken for good.)

if im on 2.0 or 2.0.1 and i get the 2.0.2 patch, will it take effect in my current game or do i have to start a new one?
and what module does this energy thing for the starbases? do i have to research it or is it available by default?

one last shameless bump

current 2.0.2 has a sadly bugged khan though, the midgame event effectively doesn't exist because his AI doesn't work
hopefully they'll fix for the next rolling patch

>devs tease neat stuff for beta
>didn't patch it akin to their last beta patch/dev diary combo
>they probably won't be working all of next week because Easter
>have to wait until the week after next to maybe get an open beta patch
I understand they have a lot on their hands but some clarity on what's keeping things held up is always appreciated

I wanna know just what kinda bug is fucking with the devs

Khan worked fine for me, fairly sure it was on the current version. I played this game through all of the 2.0.2 versions though so I'm not 100% certain.

oh and a tip for people fighting FE's

if the empire hates you do not try to go for a white peace of any kind. If you cause them any form of damage it ups the chance of it awakening dramatically and while a regular fallen empire is relatively easy to beat, an awakened fallen empire is another beast entirely

when they just awaken they have about 400k worth of fleet power and this rises quickly to close to a million

a lot of what's probably fucking with the hordes probably rests with fallen empires

like for some reason the great khan will control a holy world because fuck you dad and then the fallen empire beats his ass with a belt

mine is currently really really bugged, it literally does not respond to ships going into it's territory and retaking planets and only sporadically goes for an enemy planet

Buy Endless Space 2.

I have two fallen empires, one of whom woke up. It didn't build any extra fleets, basically just continued doing what it does except now it hates me. I *wish* it would spawn a million strength fleet and save me from the fucking crisis. I'm the strongest fleet in the galaxy at 200k, and the crisis spawned 4x270k 8x110k and periodically adds another 4x110k

I would but idk how to play it

that shouldn't happen, fallen empires should get an enormous power boost
and you only have 200k at the spawn of the crisis? in my current game I have 3 100k+ fleets flying around in 2310

Dunno what to tell you, maybe I went too hard on minerals. I have one energy planet and a dyson sphere, I could probably build another 30-50k fleet before I'd be out of energy. There was no need to go that hard on fleet until now, since 200k is enough to simultaneously conquer *both* fallen empires. There're only three remaining regular factions, I've been purging hard.

This. Way better.

Will Stellaris ever have:
1)good or at least decent combat
2)interesting hero system with interesting heroes
3)interesting diplomacy/espionage

??
How many years wait? Will it EVER happen? They have never managed to make good combat. I have not played HOI so maybe there its good?

How do I gain lots of territory? Last time I played my empire basically had zero reach and therefore less space ports, whereas my neighbourgh managed to consume like half of the galaxy

how do i make a fallen empire like me?

The trick is to work on an industry based build so you can slingshot your power over the wake up limit. For example, FEs start to awaken somewhere between 40k-60k, so as long as you're prosperous enough to force out another 250k in the span of a couple of years, you can have a fleet big enough to rival them, and if you catch their fleets while they're split, you can crush them and move on their home sectors.

Also, FEs are very strong at start because they have capped out minerals/energy when they awaken, the more you wear them down though, the more their war machine crumbles because they still only have a few (highly productive) worlds to gather resources with. I got stuck in a stalemate and after about 10 years of conflict, the FE wore down to the point where he couldn't replace his fleets as fast as I could.

I don't care about "heroes," but I'd like to see planetary governors, scientists, admirals, and generals get more independence and personality. The sector system could be vastly improved along with it, with sector governors be somewhat like having a vassal that contributes a lot of fleet cap to you, but you have a mini-empire to keep happy now otherwise he'll pack up his shit and rebel. Same goes for prolific admirals.

For most of them, the same way newbies make oldfags like them.
You don't

However, for some you can sell your people into zoos and stuff that will make them happy for a time.

Play with a friend. Or friends. Shit is way, way more fun when you have human players in there and diplomacy becomes a real thing and not just something retarded the AI did again.

But it's not realtime.

Never.
Stellaris was at first supposed to be more roleplay focused/character focused game, kindal ike CK2 but in space, then it got fucked into EU in space, this coupled along with the fact that the whole paradox DLC model is basically just adding endless list of 'new' features from existing mods rather than building upon the already existing features means it will be eternally shit. Also paradox can't into AI.

Random chance for some of them. Xenophiles will ask for parts of your population, and they'll give you random shit in exchange like minerals or a bit of tech. Materialists are the same. Robots don't have any concept of like or not, so they're completely capricious. The other two will always hate you.

i thought it was going to say lurk moar
got my hopes up that it could be done
i will just keep reinforcing my navy until i can steamroll them

>Stellaris was at first supposed to be more roleplay focused/character focused game, kindal ike CK2 but in space

That sounds amazing.

Also CK3 FUCKING WHEN STOP JEWING US

you can get on the robot's good side though, but their boons have a chance of backfiring
also their missions are sometimes insane like asking you to colonize a tomb world before you have tomb world adaptation

>CK3
right after vicky3 :^)
Gotta add the Inca and african warfare to ck2 first user, you wouldn't want an unfinished game, right?

>Vicky3
Now with capitalist, socialist and autocratic mana

>highways or movement on a plane
>in fucking space

is there a worse trope in all of video games?

problem is always that humans are really shit at innately grasping full 3-dimensional movement
it's hard to cancel out 500 million years worth of evolution

The robot FE gave me like 10k minerals before and awoke to kill the contingency. Best FE honestly. They will never get mad at you unless you attack them and wont wake up to kill you unless the contingency hacks them but thats not their fault.

how do i get rid of unrest on a conquered planet? ive declared martial law and am in the process of landing armies on it

You're a brainlet.

Have armies landed or build strongholds.

Why can’t I robo-mod individual pops?
Will they fix it?

2.0 made the game retardedly easy tbqh

build strongholds, land armies, use edicts and there's a tradition that drops it by 20% and I think another one that drops if you've vassalized them.

landing armies no longer works, can't land assault armies. unrest is a bitch and a half to deal with these days

>Robot fallen empire nice to me all game
>Asking me for pops and to do various things but if I don't want to thats cool too.
>They start giving me energy, minerals, research, upgrades to pops etc,
>absolute bro's. They arent mad that i'm settling close to their boarders, in fact they open them to me so I can come see their sweet ass ring worlds.
>War in heaven happens and me and my Robot buddies stay out of it. Too much drama for our taste
>suddenly ghost signal
>suddenly contingency
>suddenly the robot fallen empire bros wake up and get hacked by the contingency, go berserk and try to kill me
Very sad. When I took control of their ring worlds I repaired the broken ones and named in in their honor.

shame that happened, it's only a 1/3 chance
2/3th of the time they wake up and reactivate their protocols defending the galaxy from the contingency

Are the glowing blue spheres that appear at the edges of the galaxy related to the Cybrex?

what are some good mods and not meme shit like NSC ?
i wanted a mod that made more ruined megastructures appear but found none

more events mod is pretty good
more planetary modifiers is okay as well but some of the modifiers are kinda seriously op and the AI doesn't know how to use them like a human would
