Look at OP's comic. It's something you'd see in your typical unfunny strip. It's dad humor. Very, VERY basic comedy pulled off in mediocre fashion.
Compare it to his old work, where the punchline was "haha titties" or "fuck religious people." It's a huge step up, like
said. He's not good, but he's improved dramatically as an artist, a writer and a person.
He does perspective specifically so he can't be called out on doing that anymore. He just copypastes panels instead of recycling assets. Still bad, but miles ahead of where he was.

Their sad fall at the hands of their manager and success and getting "normalized" and sanded down has been well explored and exhaustively discussed long since. Mike got put on psych pills (for real), they had families (with issues) etc. I ain't even mad about it, fact is that they had a good 9 or 10 year run and most comics that run too long eventually lose steam as the creative juices run out or get commodified. You should have dropped it somewhere between 2010 and 2012 or 2013 IIRC, depending on how attached you were.
Not remotely a new phenom either, one of the things everyone intelligent has always respected most about Bill Waterson and C&H isn't what he did with it but what he DIDN'T do with it, ie., allow it to be shekel'd the fuck up with tv adaptions and tons of merch and kept going forever until the IP had been thoroughly plundered and driven into the ground. He knew when to just stop and call it done and leave it finished on a high note forever. That kind of self control and integrity is pretty rare though, it is what it is.

Might be hard to remember but back then one of the most unusual attributes of PA was that they actually took it seriously and treated it as a genuine responsibility that needed to get done 3 days a week every week no matter fucking what come hell or high water. Like, it was simple basic shit, things like "well let's have one or two spare comics/storylines pre-done so if someone gets sick or needs to travel or something we're ready to go with no interruptions". I mean, dead standard basic professionalism, but that was pretty fucking rare in the early 00s webcomic scene.

The original series ended. Then bum tickley did a reboot with these mutlicolored fuckers named players 1-4 that was boring and two of the characters basically became bootleg Ethan and Lucas
Then he slowly started peppering Ethan and Lucas in random situations (and I think a brief stint as superheroes iirc) in with the other guys and I'm not exactly sure when he went full back to his old ways with a reboot series with proper storylines and that autism, I think its crept up on everyone.
Lilah was confirmed to still exist in another strip and based on the Dubya "mission accomplished" banner joke I think it's safe to say bum tickley won't be tickling this QT3.14 anytime soon.
