Your strength doesn't max out at 18 during character creation. It's 18 +xx with xx being any number from 1 to 100 (00). Unless you're paying mage, roll your stats until you get 18 00.

It takes 1 minute to download an autoroller. Playing any Bhallspawn with sub 90 ability score and less than 18 00 strength is non canon.

the disappearing characters are mostly due to making ineffective party setups where their beliefs clash with each other, like putting a chaotic evil into a lawful good party.
In some cases lowering the churches rating of you or raising it too high will also cause party fits until they leave or attack you.

Some npcs disappear forever if you reject them the first time like Viconia and Garrick.
NPCs also disappear forever if they leave due to reputation being too high/low.
Or party conflict like Xzar & Monty vs Cucklid and Jaheira

So then, in order to not be left for dead in the middle of dungeon, I have to pre-decide who to keep and who to ignore.
The bullshit part is that there's no way to make that decision in the context of the game, because why would you invite a complete unknown into your party and throw out 2 others in the process, sight unseen?
If you can easily get the people who left your party back, once you realize the guy you met is an asshole, that would be fine.

Downloading BG1 EE right now, I'm old but never actually played any of the classic isometric RPG's apart from the Fallout games.
Just roll with Berserker? And should I bother rerolling a million times to hit a specific number?

max out Str Dex Con, set Int at 10 if you ever plan to import to BG2, and Cha and Wis are dump stats
go half orc for that 19 Str and Con if you plan to go berserker
Might also want to look into dualing to cleric, if it doesn't feel to overwhelming for you

I just brought up Berserker because I was reading a BG thread about a week ago and everyone kept saying to use that for a new player.
I can try dual-classing, it's not like I know what I'm doing anyway, so adding on more will just seem normal.

18/XX STR, 18 DEX, 19 CON
If you don't plan on dualing then try getting 18/50+ STR, it's not hard when you only have three stats to care about
You should put points into Flail/Morningstar and Dual Wielding.

Dwarf is better due to +5 to multiple saves, also the difference between 19 and 20 STR is just +1 damage and he's playing BG1 so he'll get the STR tome for 19 anyways
+5 saves is ridiculously good, let's you tank even beholders while completely unbuffed later
Berserker is nice because the berserk ability is a tremendous help on both BG1&2 as it makes you immune to a buttload of status effects and also increases ac/hp/damage/thac0 to boost
I wouldn't recommend dual classing for a new player, you can also try Dwarf Fighter/Cleric, same stats but add 18 WIS to it.

As much as I loved my dwarf in Sacred, I have been taken aback since I played a dwarf in DA:O and I saw those hilarous romance scenes where Morrigan or Leilana would kiss me on the forehead because they didn't take time to do proper animation for the dwarves... Sirene npc mod. Discreetly decent for BG1 so now I'm testing how it goes in SoD. She has an unique paladin kit that's kind weird and not very useful, at least for my style of play, so if you ever try it, keep that in mind. At least the author was kind enough to give the option to choose another paladin kit in the installation process.

Bhaalspawn have accelerated aging to maturity. I don't remember if this is outright stated, but otherwise Sendai doesn't make any sense. Probably Yaga-Shura as well, since fire giants have a life expectancy of 350 years. If they all had normal aging, Bhaal's plan wouldn't have ever had a chance of working.

Though elves live much longer than humans and are not considered mature until they are over a century old, they become physically mature at a similar rate.
This means you could do all the fighting that's required of you but it would mean that if you romance Aerie, she commits statutory rape.
