Well Ys does have an overarching story which slowly advanced across the games. Pretty much every Adol game plays out the same and that's fine, like small stories. If you're really that bothered though, give Ys Origin a shot as it doesn't concern Adol.

I played and like Ys VII, but after realizing that it constantly resets, I fell out of love for the series.
Also Celceta felt a lot worse for some reason, and I haven't gone back since.
