2018 and I don't get why would I watch someone play a game instead of playing it myself.
I understand watching pro players like SF V or CS GO because those guys are damn good but watching a normal person playing casually makes no sense to me.

The amount of casuals exponentially grow every year.

for me a lot of the time it's a game that i have played and i want to see how someone else views the experience. you can only play a game for the first time once. when you watch a blind let's play on youtube or twitch then you get to vicariously experience that first play through again.

other times the game is just fucking abysmally bad and i'd rather watch someone else suffer and laugh at them, than play the piece of shit game myself.

90% of the time when i'm watching a let's play or twitch, i'm doing something else in the background while listening/watching, kind of as white noise. or i'll fall asleep to it.

the personality of the player is a big deal too, if you actually just like that person and find them funny/entertaining then i'll watch them just to sit around in chat and talk shit

I'm enjoying Metalcanyon's playthrough of "Papers please". i dunno always liked the look of the game but could never be arsed to play and he doesn't try to hard, act too enthusiastic, beg for follows, liked and subscribes and takes things in depth with multiple playthroughs. free added bonus of soft irish accent.

Do you also not understand watching it while you're doing something else, like eating? I like to eat watching some let's play of a game that I wouldn't like to play myself (like a really fucking bad game, or a game I'm not willing to buy and can't pirate), it's much better to do that rather than watching the electric jew

I like them when they're informative and made by someone that knows the game well.

An average linear game is 8 to 12 hours long.
I can find dozens things more interesting to do in that time than watching someone play a game.

I think video games are an interactive medium. Games are build for you to play. If you take that away from it then you have nothing.
You lose the point of the game as a game.

some of my best memories of childhood gaming are being at friend's places while they were playing or i was playing a game like final fantasy 8, crash bandicoot, metal gear solid.. we had great times and would just swap the controller off if we died or every so often.
