Honestly, probably not, but the central ST concept isn't about the typical harem bullshit which I also hate. ST5 is the worst ST game, but now that you've played that much it has probably poisoned any positive perception you'd have of the rest of them.

What IS the appeal of ST? Certainly not the trpg part, that was really bad in ST5.

Just make a normal one.
Yeah the battle portions aren't too tough or anything but it is actually structured in a way to further character development without more walls of text. The appeal I find in general is that the characters' writing and supporting environment are done in a way which makes it all a very well envisioned and cohesive world. The conceit is that you and the other members are part of a dual existence - the SRPG battles are the parts where your team defends the land and people and the qualities of battle spirit are exhibited. The VN portions and supporting musical performances allow the more civil and softer aspects to these same people grow and flourish, and do so in a way which is also for the benefit of the people, with the diverting entertainment they provide. The thing you look to do in the battles are to try to get the team members to interact with each other on team attacks or to have Ogami defend specific members, and this bonding is reflected and contrasted with the non-battle portions.
When you do play the VN portion you have times where are left to discover who you can interact with, rather than have it always given to you in scripted fashion. The mini games are also just as integral to the experience and world building.
The appeal I find is the characters and the world they're in. The lack of attention to craft and detail in this regard is what makes ST5 so inferior to the other games.
I honestly don't know what to specifically recommend as to which to play now, other than it being 1 2 or 3. I think there's versions of 1 and 2oon PC out there. PS2 ST1 has some changes from the SS original which I can't confirm first hand but apparently made things worse somehow. I don't think there's a really good way to play the SS or DC original games outside of emulation, and I'm no help there.
