Why was XP so comfy?

Why was XP so comfy?

It wasn't, it's pure shit, looks like a kids toy.

Because you didn't know any better

Because since XP they took out a shit ton of useful stuff and replaced it with worthless "features" that nobody wants.

Because life was carefree as a child, you see everything through a comfy lens

Because you ran it at a comically low resolution.

I think you're describing Windows everything after Windows 8

This.

7 or 2000 is comfy. XP is just surreal now. I don't know how I managed to live with the default theme for a fucking decade.

going from windows 98 to XP was pretty comfy.

Olive theme master race

I liked Silver myself but Olive was pretty comfy

You know that its only a few settings to make XP indistinguishable from 2000.

What really makes 2000 god tier is that product activation had not been implemented. It's literally the last and best non-botnet proprietary OS.

olive was nice, but classic + space was better

Because we had it for so long

so comfy~ xD
-.-'

>was
fucking millennials...

This.

It was a simpler time

The control panel navigation made fucking sense

/thread

lets see that taskbar

POSReady 2009 has the best XP theme

...

I wish they'd just remake XP or keep updating it forever. I'd pay a monthly subscription just to have that OS back with modern functionality and security.

>OS monthly premiums
Disgusting.

>comfy
Fuck off.

because it couldn't read floppy disk or dvd's before SP1

so good

Fuck off. I only said that because it's probably the only way they'd ever do it.

...

2000 was better
xp was normie trash

>that start button

Meh, it's unnoticeable on a 4.5" screen

Nostalgia

/thread

Those hideous themes.

ITT people who have forgotten how good a Microsoft os can be.

Fuck you tablet infected niggers, comfy till I die.

>he's not using POSReady 2009

Because 7 was the last time microsoft edited the entire UI from top to bottom without missing any pieces, 8 had leftovers from 7 and 10 has leftovers from 8....

XP was before microsoft half-assed their UI

I use w7 on my main rigs, and it is probably the last microsoft os I will ever use unless they have some serious shift in leadership and make a good desktop os again.

Tho I highly doubt it will happen.

It wasn't. Felt second rate after coming from 2000, honestly

8 is better

Xfce4 is as close as it gets. Can't say I want the old XP icons back entirely though. The Zune theme, mmmm. Best shit.

only if you replace the start menu

If only the taskbar resembled the XP taskbar.

Because you ran it for 15 fucking years and got used to how shit it was.

Let it die, for God's sake. XP is no longer safe to use. The security is terrible and it is responsible for a good proportion of the hosts belonging to botnets on the internet. (The rest is Linux boxes with guessable root passwords on SSH.)

I thought Vista was more comfy desu

>Aero
>Windows flip
>Those system sounds

It's a shame Vista had shitty driver support and was pretty much abandoned in favor of Windows 7

2000 had no built in firewall

i remember first trying ubuntu after windows xp. holy shit was it great looking , even not having drivers for my modem (or rather not knowing how to configure shit at all) and xorg crashing with nvidia was ok as long as i ran away from the default blue winxp theme. I miss the welcome/shutdown music though.

To this day, to this FUCKING DAY, no picture previewer has been as good as XP's. XP's not only played animated gifs, it had very good scaling capabilities compared to 7's and onwards. I open a pic in my viewer, and the res looks like absolute shit if you zoom in to a size that the pic isn't in. However, on XP's picture viewer, it scaled bilinearly and pretty fast. I don't know why they got downgraded with their new previewers. Makes no sense.

indeed

i still use it

what's comfy about that shit? I didn''t like that and switched to uuubangooo in 2007.

I still rollin XP

Silver at times, but mostly blue with Niagara falls wallpaper. Shit was comfy yo. Too bad i didnt have internet at the time.

I still use it for writing and programming on an old sony laptop, and sometimes i play pinball with the volume all the way up

>have that OS back with modern functionality and security
It's called every version after XP. And you can have it with single payment.

Well, it had, but there was nothing that Microsoft could do about it. And people enjoyed it when they run it on proper modern hardware, not some shit from 2001 they had at home (see Mojave experiment). They idiots decided to upgrade that hardware to something modern, W7 came by and it was the best OS ever, even though it felt like paid service pack for Vista. Developers didn't even care and just renamed the Vista drivers to 7 and it worked.

Baby duck syndrome

Just made the leap to windows 7. These threads make me feel like it was a plunge :3

Because ignorance is a bliss.

Same reason your mom is.
Because it's old

because you have autism

Nah, that was Vista.
All the icons in 7 come from Vista, so does the aero theme and many other things.

Vista no updates master race

Xp themes could be demanding on especially laptops. I remember cleaning up my uncles laptop. It was running like shit.

Windows 7 with xp theme

Because first consumer Windows with NT kernel.

It was crashing every six hours instead of every 90 minutes like Windows 98 did.

I haven't run a Windows system except on a Virtual Machine since Windows 95.

Then why the fuck did you use the default theme

It took literally all of 30 seconds to change it to look identical to Win2K

>Michael Jackson shit all over the walls

Black and orange meme theme master race

...

Because it was the perfect transition into GNU/Linux distros.

It had about exact customizability:comfort ratio as Ubuntu in the same period for average pleb and many users found it easy to switch.

After that, Windows became unusable for everyone but old people and gamers, so everyone moved to OSX or Linux, depending on their interests and sexual preference.

Also this:

what does 8 have that 7 doesn't?

Performance improvements

it was, until i needed more than 3gb of ram.

is it like those play store app changelogs that just say "we fixed some bugs and improved the overall performance :^)"?

No, there's a noticeable difference between Windows 7 and Windows 8, I'm not going by what Microsoft says, I'm going by what I say.

You mean the fake shutdown / kernel suspension trick, which you can do in Windows 7 (and Vista, and XP) as well?

Improvements in the CPU scheduler aren't worth mentioning as "performance improvements".

>it scaled bilinearly and pretty fast

Still pretty slow on an old Pentium 4. The delay was noticeable and I used to find it borderline annoying.

>You mean the fake shutdown / kernel suspension trick
I couldn't give less of a shit about startup or shutdown times. I'm talking the fucking OS runs better than Windows 7.

It was the apex of the windows operating system.

Windows 8.1 is pretty comfy. What with classic shell and all.

Because it didn't crash constantly, like previous Windows versions.

Was it? I mean, I have very good memories from the XP era, but I don't remember anything in particular that I could consider GREAT.

because it is the maximum and minimum of what microsoft achieved
