I don't use it besides app launching on OSX, which it does well. However I don't like on iOS how you can now either swipe down or right from the home screen to get two seperate searches, just so that one can have the keyboard ready, and one can have the suggestions. It's just really bad design.

OS X is a great operating system, Apple hardware is often quite good, and many of their products are competitively priced within their own quality and price ranges.
But nobody here cares about that--they just want to fling shit at each other. I know many of you are young but I wish you'd grow up just a little bit so I could use Sup Forums for Macs just like I use Sup Forums for all of the other tech stuff I enjoy.
1TB PCIe SSDs are extremely expensive but you can actually upgrade it, it's just not worth doing usually.
I understand complaining about the soldered RAM but that's most laptops nowadays and something we just have to live with. If you're used to using mostly cheap crap laptops (like I was) or nice ThinkPads you're used to RAM slots. But even the ThinkPads have soldered RAM today afaik--think X1 and such. I could be wrong but in any case that is the trend and there are legitimate reasons for it in some cases.
You can't upgrade it. The macbooks use a custom sized nvme ssd so any aftermarket one doesn't fit.

In any case, I think this is more or less a minor issue--as much as I hate to say it, I've owned probably 10 laptops throughout my life, and I only ever upgrade the HDD and such when I first purchase it, if ever.
It sucks, it means Apple can price gouge if they so choose, but what it comes down to is cost and benefit, it's that simple. Many of their products are just overpriced pieces of shit, but many of them are excellent and still worth taking a look at despite their flaws (many of which are minor or shared by similar products in the same price range).

I like using them but honestly paying $1300 and having 126 gb of storage is just baffling to me. One movie in good quality takes 5-10 gb. If I want/need a windows partition then that's my hard drive gone. No matter the speed I don't think you can justify having less than 500 gb of space on a premium laptop.
Yeah, but don't just pay off the shelf prices for MacBooks. It's like anything else--if you wait and use a bit of common sense and have a low time preference, you'll get it for much cheaper. It works the same way as any other electronic/computer products, GPUs, etc.
Take advantage of sales, edu discount (-$100), things like that Apple pay promo which offered 20% off last year, and so on. You can get a model that's $1700 on Apple's website for $1300 that way and meet all of your requirements.

I currently use it. It came pre-installed with elementaryOS, so no driver issues, and I can use it outside, because no reflections on the display.
When I bought late 2013 15 retina there were 0 computers that came close at that price (reminder that not everyone needs their super AAA games everywhere they go). Thinness/battery/display/looks/ssd/cpu + pretty ok iGpu combo/resale value/outstanding support in every country except mine.
Paid $2000, sold for $1400 after 2.5 years, loved it.
The thing is most retards here can only afford old and abused $200 thinkpad and thing like this is worth more than their car if mom bought them one.
oh, and everything else is pretty much as you would expect. the only issue until now, is that the email-program crashed a couple of times.
