Thoughts on the new VIA chip?
Anyone going to pick one up?
VIA
what?
They made a new quad core processor, single die this time and 28nm.
X86, avx2, etc.
why? whats the point?
Why not?
pushing boundaries, entering new markets, profit
>Ashes of the singularity
meh game, move along.
>not wanting to see dx12 scaling on the c4650
...
Bump
Koolbeenz war is dis?
What?
>via isn't dead
huh
The new quad cores are decent, from the benchmark they look core 2 duo / celeron g1840 tier. I don't see why not
I know right
Where to buy?
Given VIA have historically been making embedded chips this new one - if these charts are accurate - is pretty powerful for them.
>gayming performance on an embedded CPU nobody will use for gaymes
who gives a fuck
Will we finally see some competition for amd and Intel? Even if only athlon 5350/Pentium tier, it'll be nice to have extra options available.
Unlikely - VIA is absolutely tiny and hasn't attempted to take on AMD for over a decade.
I wish they would. If they can match the athlon 5350 in price then they've got a customer in me.
Even if the cpu power is there - who the hell is going to make a motherboard for it?
VIA?
Intel make their own motherboards.
Or an embedded micro atx board so I can have my expansion slots
>Cinebench is gaymes
Ok.
Still, thats going to require some hefty overhead if they are aiming to supply consumers. Half of the reason why VIA still remain is business is they basically only do semi-custom work.
>28nm
>2011 tech
Why?
Cool CPU though
Probably cheaper to manufacture
Isn't it a sinking ship currently?
To Earn money you need to spend money.
>To Earn money you need to spend money.
Well yes but therei sa difference between building X units of your chip and mobo when you have a buyer lined up compared to building X amount and have them sit in newegg/amazon/whatever warehouse for months hoping someone stumbles upon it.
Well, they could try seeing if any OEM was interested in a budget desktop using their chips and boards?
Or maybe make devices with prexisting itx boards and ship them directly?
Will need some r&d but not too much
With the sort of money Intel throws around as well as AMD pushing their apus to OEMs VIA is going to have one hell of a time finding a buyer given how (relatively) slow their chip is.
>Probably cheaper to manufacture
I do not see price of that VIA CPU+Mobo
Good point.
How much will it cost?
>VIA
What am I, some poor fucking chink?
