Pre OS 9 Macs

Pre OS 9 Macs.

Let's have a thread about glorious Mac System 6-8.

Personal favorite? For me it's System 7.6.1.

>those dots as the desktop pattern
Still use it today.

fuck off mactards. The only reason to use Mac today is for its UNIX capabilities. It was shit before OS X.

>before OS X
It was great before OS X, system stability was better than the 32-bit Windows versions, and MUCH better than the 16-bit versions and MS-DOS.

Macs have always been god tier personal computers.

TOP KEK, these OS's were so badly designed, that literally all multitasking was slow as fuck.

You ripped a CD in iTunes 2? Have fun sitting in front of a locked up computer until the job is done.
You copy data via USB onto a storage device like a MP3 player? Have fun sitting in front of a locked up computer until the job is done.

All these fancucks that spouted that the multitasking of Windows 95 and 98 back then was "so bad" are fucking retards and should be shot immediately. Because they are fucking liars.
It was way better with Windows. X changed this, however it was slow as fuck on all of the machines they sold back then.

Hint: In the next 10 years Apple Inc. will become iTunes Inc., focussing on iPad and iPhones.

Because they killed the mac, vr is THE future and the future is on PC. If you want UNIX, wait 1 to 2 years and switch to Linux, because Linux software availabilty nowadays is like Mac OS X software availability the years the iPod came on the market.

Kill the fucking Apple threads. It's over and way less than 9k.

...

>If you want UNIX, wait 1 to 2 years and switch to Linux

2017 yy--year of the Linux Desktop?

This is a true opinion. OS X is still the best visual desktop OS on the market in 2016 tho

The [Free/Open/Net/DragonFly]BSD desktop is happening in 2016 though.

It's shit after OSX too.

>that literally all multitasking was slow as fuck.
No it wasn't, I often ran many programs at once. If you hit the limit of RAM and had to use virtual memory, shit got slow though.

>You ripped a CD in iTunes 2? Have fun sitting in front of a locked up computer until the job is done. You copy data via USB onto a storage device like a MP3 player? Have fun sitting in front of a locked up computer until the job is done.

Sure, but if you plugged in a plug-n-play USB device into your Windows 95 or 98 machine the whole thing would often crash. It had very similar problems, and you couldn't EVER multitask in Windows and also burn a CD reliably at the same time, until the XP days.

>It was way better with Windows.
No, no it wasn't. Windows had so many leaks and holes, and so much strapped on garbage, so SO many patches.

You just were too poor and / or too young, so you're salty that you never used the nicest personal computers of that era.

>In the next 10 years Apple Inc. will become iTunes Inc., focussing on iPad and iPhones.
You said that when the iPod came out and you were wrong then too.

>Because they killed the mac
Wait, didn't they just come out with the hottest selling laptop of all time? Yes in fact they have.

>vr is THE future
LOL the 1950s called, they want their 3d meme back

>the future is on PC
OK man, enjoy your goggles and strap-on penis and asshole vibrating 'girlfriend' while I use a real computer.

>wait 1 to 2 years and switch to Linux
So, 2019 is the 'year of Linux on the desktop' at last? I've been hearing this since 1994.

>Kill the fucking Apple threads.
Thanks for the bump anyway user.

Sure.
I already know people using Chromebooks and Google is working on a Desktop version of Android.

I don't see what will prevent Google from wrecking shit up with that and I guess neither will you. Because... Just look at all the captchas we even have to solve here. Look at where googleapis are used. Look how many sites rely on Google analytics. Google has won all the time so far and I guess they won't stop doing so in the near future.

Exciting times ahead.

Yes the GCC team's unprofessionalism cost them literally millions of dollars in grants to help with the compiler.

Now Apple uses Clang / LLVM and the Gnu Project is falling BADLY behind the times.

>macshit
>real computer
topkek

Nice blog thread. How about you fuck off back to where you belong?

Because Google can't design a decent UI, their backward compatibility is horrible, and their meme OS is hosted mainly on "free" phones for Obamaphone recipients?

There will never be lines of people forming simultaneously all around the entire world, waiting for the next Google phone.

>using gnushit.

Clang is objectively a better compiler tho

>Mac
nice meme

LLVM is obviously a positioning for the future too.

>You just were too poor and / or too young, so you're salty that you never used the nicest personal computers of that era.
Jokes on you, I was born into a Mac cuck family. I always had the nicest computers. Had about 15 real macs so far (I stopped counting as I can't really remember how many PowerMacs I had and which numbers they were. PPC 750 etc. and all that shit with the upgrade card etc.). And B/W G3s (codename Yosemite), 5 G4s or something and then hackintoshes.

You are standing naked in front of me and try to laugh at me.

It's the other way round.

But I'm not surprised by your hothead reply. Typical for Apple users, it really kills a lot of the fun using these machines. People on all the BBS online react also like you.
Fucking idiotic Apple knowitalls, using only one OS and then claiming to know everything.
Thank god I got out of that hellhole.

Also Google doesn't even have a human you can speak to.

>I was born into a Mac cuck family.
I imagine your mom was always yelling at you to clean up your blunt cheap pot metal iaito and your fedoras too memelord.

Windows was for gaymers, still is. Serious computer users have never used that product.

epik meme xDDD

>Mac

how do I properly setup sheepshaver? I want to run Forge for Marathon but can never figure it out.

>People on all the BBS
>BBS

Grandpa...

>I always had the nicest computers. Had about 15 real macs so far
LEL this is my point, macs were the nicest computers.

You're both retarded

kek, kinda true t b h

>sheepshaver
The memes just write themselves.

>can't do this with Windows, never could, never will!

mac os 9 was awful, pressing the close button never terminated the program you had to do it top right, oh wait they've still not fully fixed this. (typed on a macbook)

We're not blind. We're ignoring you.

I have all of the patterns somewhere...

>Mac
nice meme

I grew up on BBS and I'm only 34. You got a problem little faggot?

>only

I've been trying to get my MATE desktop to resemble the classic Mac OS.
I got a good theme and everything, the fonts and everything, but there's still niggling bits that bug me, and I don't think I'll be able to fix them. RIP.

It's a great classic computing aesthetic.

The feature you described is the only feature I wish to see in every OS.

There is no point in closing an Application just because a window got closed.

Because of this, new browser windows are open immediately on Macs since like forever, considering you don't close the browser just by closing the window of it.
On Windows I oftentimes leave the FF library open all the time, so that I can quickly open a new FF window instead of having to wait a second or two until the new Browser window is visible.

However I can see where you are coming from. Easy does it, right?

>Mac
nice meme

Are you the same twelve year old repeatedly posting or is this board full of middle schoolers?

Hell, even Chrome picked up on this, they don't actually close upon closing the windows on both Windows and I believe there's an option to do it on Linux. Chrome uses it to pop up web notifications and update apps, and open new windows faster.

both.

9x may have been a better multitasker than the Macintosh System, but so was horse shit. If you gave a fuck about multitasking you were using NT, OS/2 or Unix in the first place.

>No it wasn't, I often ran many programs at once. If you hit the limit of RAM and had to use virtual memory, shit got slow though.
Nah, he was kind of right. Cooperative multitasking is awful, though not really nearly as bad for most jobs in my own experience.

9x had its own little fuckups with it too, god dealing with floppy disks was a fucking pain.

fuck this shit too, it makes sense when I think about it but it's still fucking annoying

>Mac
nice meme

>Mac

Actually, I prefer the way OSX works. I usually just minimize everything and leave it open on windows.

>Mac
nice meme

Apple would still be using GCC to this day if the FSF hadn't gone GPL3.

Yeah, I guess the tail end of 7.x is pretty nice after using 7.0.1 for a while.

Can't stand platinum though.

My nigga, I have a pile not quite as large.

>sparcstations not stacked.

missed photo opportunity there.

Please, where can I get them, I have a powerful need.

>Mac
nice meme

Autistic answer, but you can go load 7 up in Basilisk II and just pull the patterns out that way, not too hard to take a screenshot and crop.

That pattern flickers horrendously on my screen.

That's the Windows paradigm.
In Mac Application Window isn't the application.

>but muh gcc
Fuck your not portable trash. Those GNU freaks had brought only despair to software development.

lol, ancient macfag developer here.

>iFlock cause you can't think for yourself

It should be:

iFlock because I can't think for myself

iFlock because I don't want to think for myself.

Only one system did multitasking properly back then...

>only 34

You're middle-aged, fucker

>34 years old and arguing with people on Sup Forums…

I agree with your arguments, but do something of your life, dammit!

MFW 100% of old mac games have looked like because lel:
>Apple couldn't into hardware acceleration

And holy fuck their one button mouse was unresponsive as fuck

something a little fake about that screenshot, Amiga workbench 1.3 didn't support that resolution nor that colour palette. But it certainly was the only one that could multitask properly.

>30s is middle-aged

Back to your room, underage.
