I think I'm ready for Gentoo, anything I need to keep in mind?
I'm primarily a Steam Gamer and am comfortable with having a smaller library, might be interested in A/V applications. Worth noting that I fell for the first generation VR meme and ordered an OSVR HMD.
Previous experience with Arch, Puppy, Ubuntu, Mint, DSL, and a little Debian.
Jacob Perry
Just get a cheap laptop and run linux on that. Having linux as your main OS is full retard.
Tyler Hernandez
You'd honestly be better off with OS X. I'm not memeing, it's like Linux done right. I say that as someone who used Gentoo for three years before switching to OS X.
James Cruz
Forgot my screenshot for proof.
Lucas Parker
You could always dual-boot.
Jose Gomez
I never found the need. I miss a few things like tweaking my system with acpid and ricing, but for the most part OS X will feel familiar to most Linux users.
Kayden Miller
I agree with this, for desktop usage linux sucks pretty hard currently.
Windows 8 on the desktop, xubuntu on the laptop.
Linux is great for laptops imo
Liam Hughes
so much wasted space, and that album art is so unncessecary
Xavier Stewart
If by desktop usage you mean trying to game with non-compatible games.
Asher Gutierrez
Why does Linux suck for the desktop? I think it's actually better than laptop support right now.
Logan Brooks
desktop is because most people that use a desktop use it for photoshop, daw, or something along those lines. I wasnt even talking about games but since you brought it up sure, it has better game support as well.
Not talking about from a hardware pov, but from a platform perspective, with propietary or non prop drivers it works fine i guess.
Of course if your using it to run a home srever then something like debian is probably better for a desktop
Christian Baker
I had it up for cancer threads. Cancer is a filter for desktop. Can't let those mods see this post. Here's what it normally looks like. Who needs tiling windows when you have this much room? It's so nice seeing which windows you were previously using stack over each other in the order you previously used them.

>animal collective
nice Sup Forums meme music. i bet you fucking listen to neutral milk hotel aswell
Evan Thomas
Even meme men like Stephen Colbert listen to NMH. It's hardly a Sup Forums meme.
Jose Cooper
neutral milk hotel are garbage, i dont get how anyone can unironically like their stuff
Blake Young
>/r9k/ >all those anime steam avatars
Julian Torres
Sup Forums css pls
Michael Gutierrez
Sup Forums has really hit rock bottom is posts like this are happening so often. Disgusting. Go away.
>interested in A/V applications Doesn't matter. Every distro will supply this shit. But if you don't want to do anything other than click a button or type a single command to install it then go with Ubuntu 16.04.
>I fell for the VR meme VR isn't coming to Linux in the near future. Oculus threw the community away as soon as they gathered enough momentum and buzz.
>previous experience with .* Then use whatever you like. I recommend Ubuntu 16.04 though if you haven't previously used Linux 100% of the time for longer than a couple months.

WE GOT HER ON STREAMING SOMEONE GET HER GET THE RAIDERS/!!!!!!!!!!!!!111!!!!!! RLLY!!!!
Benjamin King
WE GOT BRITNEY VENNTI STREAMING GET THE RAIDERS!!!!!
Jaxon Peterson
It depends on your usage. If you just work on code and shit and just need a shitload of processing power without any unsupported software like PS, Linux is great for a desktop. Plus, you can always dual boot, use a VM, or use Wine if you need something like that.
Julian Perry
does onee chan allow op postinf with legacy captcha?
occulus didnt throw the community, they soly out
Henry Brown
Oneechan is designed to be used with Sup Forums X you know. Recaptcha2 is faster when you realize you can use the uiojklmm,. keys. I think the numpad works too, but not on OS X.
Justin Bell
You don't miss out on the ability to tweak your system far more than with OS X?
Jonathan Phillips
No, because most of that tweaking was either laptop related, things that should have worked but didn't (brightness control on my thinkpad) or are things I still do on OS X such as writing scripts.
Julian Price
>OS X no single package manager for the whole system (yes, I know about macports/fink/homebrew, they're not handling the base system) no vmm to control my server VMs no good filesystem support (HFS+ is below garbage tier) only runs on shit hardware (officially. hackintosh exists, but you're still somewhat limited) overall shit performance (only in part due to the limited choice of hardware) >Linux done right I'd rather dual-boot Linux and Windows (or as I've recently taken to calling it, Linux plus a Windows VM)
Jacob Peterson
You're clearly not the OP.
Sebastian Clark
Never said I am. I just want this "OS X is Linux done right" meme to end.
Hunter Nelson
Nothing will work, the world is against you now. Good luck and enjoy the Linux ride

It seems like some Mac OS X guy is trying to make his OS sound like a consensus.
Don't hesitate to go on their (Gentoo) IRC chan if you have any question.

The Mac OS X guy poisoning this thread seems triggered.
