What do you guys think of GOG?
Can they compete with steam going forward?
> No DRM
> Seem to care about their community
> Currently developing an optional client
> Decent Linux support
What's not to love?

I love the ease of torrenting GoG games
...
> No DRM
This is why it will fail
Steam doesn't have DRM on a huge chunk of its games.
It's hardly failing.
Maybe because they so tightly integrate it with their client? Online multiplayer, friends, achievements, all of that shit in a client that JUST WORKS. GOG has none of that.
Then it won't fail because no DRM you retard, but because
>Online multiplayer, friends, achievements, all of that shit in a client that JUST WORKS
Stupid DRM shill
GOG is great, I get some games from them from time to time
I think a large chunk of Steam's value is derived from their client + integration. If GOG can match that experience, they'll start to make inroads.
they can offert an alternative at equal price I always take gog because steam is shit.
> Seem to care about their community
>"""""""""""""""""""""""seem"""""""""""""""""""""""
>the client
And that is something that GOG is starting to work on.
The whole 'DRM Free' thing seems to be a drawcard for at least psuedo-freetards.
Their main problem at the moment seems to be a lack of library. I mean, Simcity 2000 was a great game, but is it really worth using a whole platform for?
Also, why the fuck is this on Sup Forums?
They can't possibly be as bad as Valve...
...right?
I buy mostly from Steam except when I can buy from GOG or Humble, because I don't want Steam to absolutely take over everything.
>Online multiplayer, friends, achievements, all of that shit in a client that JUST WORKS. GOG has none of that.
GoG Galaxy, the "optional client" OP mentioned, does that. It even connects to the steam community.
Steam is DRM, you mouth breathing dumbshit fuck stain.
>because I don't want Steam to absolutely take over everything.
>"optional client"
but it is optional
DRM on steam is completely optional. If the developer wants to, he can allow the game to run without steam.
gog is cool because you dont have to run another program to play a game.
Rude. What he means is that a lot of steam's games have installers/executables that can be copied out and shared without drm.
200 Linux games in my Steam Library now.
Picked up Metro Redux bundle for 7 bucks.
I honestly hate game clients.
They destroyed the old style of game socialising and are just a library manager with drm and chat built in.
What i want to see is games without steam or clients being needed again. Like i wanted to buy mgs for example but its a steam code for the physical release
Torrent a removed steam version and donate/mail check to developer.
yeah exactly what i mean. Also steam doesnt let you own the game, and if steam ever goes out of buisiness then we will be left with nothing
The only problem I have with Sup Forums is some of the games that are on Linux on Steam are only Windows on GOG. Other than that I like them a lot more than Steam.
I like them very much. Great sales, got a dozen or so games like that.
how have you not killed yourself yet?
Fuck, I was trying to say "The only problem I have with it Sup Forums..."
Steam has lots of Linux exclusives because the devs don't bother to release a standalone version and just update the one on Steam.
It is if all you want is to play the games. If you want the community stuff and auto-updates then you'll need it, because that's what the client does.
If you only knew how much pain I've gone through getting steam to run on GuixSD
Try setting up an eGPU via optimus.
Once I got it working I just hard masked any future versions of Xorg or nvidia-drivers.
I probably just have some misguided hope that GOG will open their client, implying that it would work out-of-the-box on most distros
Honestly, I went to GoG twice to buy a game and both times they didn't have the Linux version so I bought a steam key instead. They just aren't a good service.
Retard alert
This
continue? I wanna get witcher 3 easily
Is there anyone who honestly uses Steam not because they want to, but because it's "necessary"? If I hadn't gotten suckered into the ecosystem while I was a Windows lad, I'd avoid it like the plague.
it is neccesary, no other way to paly a lot of specific games outside of pirating (free bitcoin miner included)
How is this relevant to technology?
Sup Forums, and Sup Forums arent meant for people like you anymore
this was true before refunds, now sales are a non event at this point
Video Games are Technology.
Pretty much. Nobody is going to drop DRM just for bunch of neckbeards.
GOG and the Humble Store are the best stores to buy video games.
Why is this on Sup Forums though?
>DRM
>Good
