I have a Pentium 133Mhz with 16Mb of ram hanging around just taking the dust

i have a Pentium 133Mhz with 16Mb of ram hanging around just taking the dust.
i was thinking about turning it into a Dos gaming box.

anyone have other ideas ?

>inb4 throw it away
its my first PC, it has a sentimental value

anyone ?

Sell it and buy a 1080

yolo

turn into a JukeBox

too slow. even for music, the only OS it could load are win98 and older.
even then win98 will take about 10min to load properly

mp3 needs 386 w/ 8 ram to run in dos.
mpxplay is the best player for dos

i didn't know there were DOS mp3 players.
thanks for the tip

btw my motherboard look exactly like this one

check the site:
mpxplay.sourceforge.net/

and this:

if you like a car audio system under dos.

requirements:

> A computer with a Pentium 75MHz processor or 486 DX/4 100MHz processor

> 5 megabytes of RAM (4M SHOULD work if you choose to disable the "CD buffering" feature described in the "DISABLING CD BUFFERING" section below, but I have not tested this)

> Hard drive (to withstand the shock of riding around in a car, the hard drive should have a minimum of 10Gs of OPERATING shock. Most modern hard drives should have this, and Seagate makes a 13 gigabyte drive that can handle 63Gs! (that's what I'm using :)

> Sound card (Sound Blaster 16 recommended, but also works with Window Sound System, Gravis UltraSound, Sound Blaster Pro, ESS, Crystal, Yamaha, and MIDAS sound cards)

> If your car stereo does not have a "line in" jack, buy a cassette to 1/8"-jack adapter from Radio Shack. This will get the sound card's output into your car stereo system. However, you'll have better sound quality if you can use a "line in" feed instead.

> Numeric keypad (or keyboard)

The following equipment is not required, but REALLY nice to have:

> 20x4 LCD display (wired to the parallel port for data and joystick port for power, which is described later in this manual)

> CD-ROM drive (for adding songs & playing CDs)

Currently, MCAS onlys supports one hard drive and one CD-ROM drive. If you need to have multiple drive support (such as partitioned hard drives, removable hard drives, or Zip disk support), tell me! I can probably be bribed to add this feature to the next version of MCAS. :)

quickview also plays

>"mp3 and MP4, AVI and MOV videos with the DivX codecs (incl. videos with FourCC DIV3, DIV4, DX50 and MP43), Indeo (tm) and QPEG (tm) codecs among many others. Subtitles with AVI (DivX) files are supported as well.
QuickView Pro will also play incompletely downloaded AVI and DivX files."

here are a good site for download msdos software:

opus.co.tt/dave/index.htm

Install Gentoo on it

Just built this shit, everything is powering up im at the stage where I want to install Windows from my usb. My monitor is not receiving any signal though , any ideas ? Tried taking the gpu out and plugging hdmi straight to mobo but still just the same...

If you have a mobo like that, you can bash a 64MB SDRAM in it. You can then run Win95, without swap file, Win98 hell even 2k

msdos is better many aspects.
>Pentium 133Mhz with 16Mb of ram

>tfw you fell for the 16 MiB RAM meme

Check 4 pin plug next to cpu

Holy shit this is so damn cool.

check the manual, reset the bios, plugg and clean the ram, change the power supply, check the monitor cable, etc

>win98 will take about 10min to load properly
Well yeah, upgrade to 64MB RAM or use win95
Also it can play MP3s just fine

Yeah it's plugged in , just getting no picture on the monitor. Monitor definitely works I just tested it.

netbsd?

>PC Chips
Have you tried turning it on? Usually these are completely broken

it doesn't work with SDRAM, but with EDO DRAM

transform the pc into a Star Trek command center pc!

sourceforge.net/projects/lcars24/

How do I reset the bios ? Yes I'm extremely new to this I built my first computer and this never happened, everything was going the same with this one except this part, I just want to install my OS and get back to my computer neet comfy lifestyle and I'm staring at this black screen turning it on and off :(

If you're OP: The mainboard is from the worst brand that ever made computer mainboards. Save the CPU and throw it in the trash.

check the manual and find the pins into the motherboard

linux you dumb nigger

linux is to slow and useless for this configuration

9 times out of 10 it's incompatible/improperly seated ram

See above post, right now I'm broke and desperate to just get back on a PC, mines was lifted by the police cos of my whore ex girlfriend. They say I might not get it back for 6 to 9months. I should of asked here before hastily putting this together on pcpartpicker. But alas, I'm here now, can anyone help I'm pretty pc build illiterate but like I say I managed to put the previous one together without a hitch.

if you do a jukebox you'd want to do something like tinycore or LFS retard

i'm not talking about running a full blown Ubuntu install

>mcascar.tripod.com/index.html
thats the uglyest car i'v ever seen.

ms dos is perfect for the jukebox:
low req, rapid, stable, fast.

Thanks I'll give this a try.

i'm op, check the trip

Reminder:

>Only 32 kilobytes of RAM in the Apollo capsules' computers was enough to put men on the moon and safely get them back to Earth. The Voyager deep space probes that sent us a wealth of images and scientific data from the outer reaches of the solar system (and still continue to do so from interstellar space) have on-board computers based on a 4-bit CPU. An 80C85 CPU with 176 kilobytes of ROM and 576 kilobytes of RAM was all that controlled the Sojourner robot that drove across the surface of Mars and delivered geological data data and high-resolution images in full-color stereo.

Planned hardware obsolescence and bloatware are the only reasons you need 4GHz quad-core CPUs and 8GB of RAM just to run smoothly these days.

This is my mobo, I have a hyperx 8gb in the left ram slot is this right ?

Sorry forgot to attach pic

(music creation under ms dos)

why are you highjacking my thread you stupid fuck ?

lel

Because some friendly chaps are helping me out here.

check this

Cheers , all the power and fan connections are in properly, what do you mean 'check for hard reset' ? I found this little two pin jumper (i believe it's called that?)

its a clear cmos option for delete all configurations
howtogeek.com/131623/how-to-clear-your-computers-cmos-to-reset-bios-settings/

this is a jumper for clear cmos, check the manual unplug the power cord and put this in the correct pin for 15 sec ~ for clear cmos

If I do this will that not mean I can't use a usb keyboard ? Because that's all I got

no in the clear cmos process (~15 sec)
>no power connections
>unplugg the power cord
>after that process unplugg the jumper and plugg the power cord

Ok sorry if this is stupid question does it matter which way up I connect this thing ? Like , so i dont put it on upside down?

>Ok sorry if this is stupid question does it matter which way up I connect this thing ? Like , so i dont put it on upside down?

doesn't matter for function, but easier to remove if you orient it like your drawing

And I'm plugging it on there for 15sec with all the power off, then take it off and power it back up ?

>but easier to remove if you orient it like your drawing
put the jumper like the image. (sorry for my english)

yes, plugging it on there for 15sec with all the power off, then take it off and power it back up

Yeah still no monitor signal I want to cry. What next ? The monitor is fine the Wii u is displaying.

...

Some pictures in case anything look out of ordinary that I'm not noticing

...

check if the ram its ok.
1 Power off and unplugg the power cable
2 unplugg the ram and clear the connectors w/ alcohol and cotton
3 plugg the ram
4 plugg the power cord

in the same case (no signal) check plugg a videocard in the pci express slot

change the power suply

if fails, plugg a buzzer in the motherboard for warnings sounds and read the manual

check the front case, if the read led (red) is constantly on, unplugg the serial ata cable

Install FreeBSD.

did you use motherboard standoffs in your case? there should have been some little screw things that hold the motherboard off of the metal in the case so it doesn't short out.

i was thinking this but he cant be that stupid

idk dude my first build from scratch I put the case on my bed and forgot there was a hole behind the cpu location on the motherboard for attaching coolers and whatnot and well i had a scare and it's a wonder I didn't ESD the mobo and ruin it. You get excited about things and you skip a step or forget something, it happens.

>You get excited about things and you skip a step or forget something, it happens.

i totally understand

Yeah I did , still can't get any display to get into the bios and get this up and running , tried removing the battery for twenty min to see if that worked, some guy does it on YouTube. But this never worked so yeah I'm stumped everything is brand new out the packet and I'm not too clued up ok how to test for individual components working or not I'm just a noob.

On a side note , pic related , can I put that in the motherboard I got and what part do I need to get to do it if possible ? It's a 30gb ssd I read I should put my os on there for speedier boot ups?

is that m.2? If so does your MB have a m.2 slot

there will be a spot on your motherboard if it's compatible, but let's stay on topic. You should remove the cpu, blow in the socket, re-seat the cpu. You should remove both sticks of ram, blow in sockets, re-seat them. your cpu could have a bad connection. I had this happen with one of my builds and it made a ram slot not function correctly.

Build a pyre and give it an honorable transition to the afterlife.

...

Op make sure you've seen this.

DID YOU USE STANDOFFS UNDER THE MOBO?

Yeah and I was building it on top of a cardboard box on a wooden table standing on wooden floor. I think I should try the user idea and start taking it apart and blowing out any dust or whatever that might be in the ram and cpu.

Unless anyone has any last ideas ? No display on monitor to get in to bios, fresh new wee build, all parts brand new
> ( uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/8rq2Q7 )

Monitor is working and tested,
So far I have tried :
Resetting cmos with the jumper thing
Removing battery for twenty mins
Removing the sata cables
Cleaning/Trying Ram in the other slot

Please mock my build or whatever after we get this pissing monitor to be detected. Your time is much appreciated.

...

I'm not sure lol I know I fuckd up though and should of got one of the 2.5 inch ones right ?

yeah...............
or just use a hhd, most mrople on Sup Forums dont even shutdown their computers anyway

Upgrade the RAM - if my 486 can do 32, there's no way you can't do more!

Invest in a CF to IDE Adapter - buy a CF Card big enough for your needs.

You can still keep the HDD if it has things you want or need or you have an a newer PATA drive, but you're better off with the safer solid state method.

If you're in to windows gaming - you can probably go with Win 98 or at least 95.

I run 95 on the 486 but i'm more or less in DOS 90% of the time -

When i'm not running windows, Checkout CTMOUSE & HIMEMX for having more features while taking up less space

What do i use it for: Adlib Tracker, Old Vidya (Tyrian 2000 on real FM Synth just sounds godly) *You can find a lot of games free legally (or otherwise)*, some low level (ASM or C) programming

>inb4 C isn't low level
On DOS, it's much more low level than you think...

Some other ideas:
Maybe get a network adapter to talk to your LAN - good way to move data to\from (but with a CF Card... i mean...

If your modem isn't a shit - get a terminal and find some fucking BBS to call for fucks sake. if you've got a retrofag in town that you're friends with, help him fire his shit up and Call his house with your PC and play doom. (thats what i plan to do)

Throw it away, any literal netbook could emulate that in it's sleep.

>Throw it away
its too cool to do that

Holy shit, you're actually helping the guy. I guess there still some of the old Sup Forumsays here.

What kind of hardware do you think you need to do this shit? A fucking Q6600? The P133 is a pretty excellent chip, and as long as you have a good sound card, you're golden. Music playback is not very CPU-intensive on old hardware, it's all done in dedicated silicon anyway.

Hell, my current sound editing system is an SGI box from 1993.

Why did you try to derail this thread for your unrelated gaymer shit blog?

>win98 loading properly

fucking kek'd
