The pre-order goal quantity has almost been reached, and we know that production only takes ~2 months after park.

I don't even intend to buy one, I'm just pointing out your retardation.

Anyone have a useful comment about this thing?

I think the possibility of developing 3rd party cpu boards is interesting. OMAP5 was really their only option given the current market.

All of you x86 fags can finally have your dream toy.

>~$700
>2GB RAM
>dual-core (yes, 2 physical cpu cores) A15 @ 1.5GHz
It's literally weaker than a $30 android phone. What kind of massive retard would buy this turd lmao.

Low specs but also upgradeable, unlike even the most expensive of phones
Also it's not as high of demand as a phone so price will obviously be higher than a comparably specced phone.

It's a meme. Get a GPD WIN instead. Doesn't have an angry birds processor and pre-order for 4GB RAM variant is $330.

Not really sure why someone would want a pyra. It has a shitty dual-core ARM CPU.

The GPD WIN will most likely have UEFI boot and the option to turn secure boot off. You will then be able to install gentoo or whatever on it.

I'm hyped

It's true though, ARM processors are mostly good for playing angry birds, not much else. 99% of servers, desktops, laptops don't use them.

What good is the pyra if all it can do is just play angry birds?

The GPD win is bigger and the keyboard doesn't look thumb typable.

Also, from the price, and knowing the build quality of the GPD Android, which has been out for a while now, I predict the GPD win will be the ultimate piece of chinkshit.

The Pyra is built entirely in Germany and Greece so we can trust the quality.

>angry birds processor

Is this a joke?

Just keep posting "angry birds processor" over and over. That meme was pretty funny desu

get your smart toilet and remote controlled lawn mower processor out of here
i bet they use the heat from it to warm the toilet seats

Speaking of which how many FPS do you think the pyra will get on angry birds? That dogshit MP2 powervr GPU has less graphics performance than an andreno 306 (found on $30 android phones).

>dual-core A15
Are you fucking shitting me?

This is basically the Sup Forumspad coming to life. I remember when Sup Forums was obsessed with reviving the UMPC market.

Wouldn';t know, I won't think about buying one till a CPU upgrade comes out, something a $30 phone (or $700 phone for that matter) is incapable of.

>tfw picked up a Vaio UX a few months ago
It's great, we need more slider UMPCs, less mini netbooks.

enough to run multiple emulators at the same time on a 1080p display. OS is full desktop Debian.

What's an actually good ultra portable PC?

The pyra isn't an UMPC. The GPD WIN is though.

b-but ARM LINUX BRO!!!11

No, it's mobile debian (ARM).

It's the exact same thing, just compiled for a different architecture you dumbass.

GPD WIN. I already preordered one.

No it's not. It's the crippled version of debian (ie mobile debian OS). It literally can't run x86 software.

Can you install windows XP on it?

You're a goddamned moron.

>ARM debian
>full desktop debian

2/10, you had me going

No it has an angry birds processor.

this

How are you supposed to play angry birds on it anyway? Doesn't seem like the screen has touch input. Do I have to connect a usb mouse to it?

it's a resistivie screen so it only supports 1 finger. you won't be able to zoom in without some janky software trickery. even with software trickery it'll sometimes spazzes out.

Also can it even handle Angry Birds Go?

Double tap to zoom is janky software trickery?

>everything i don't like is a meme meme meme

>trusting this

Also they have a history of locked boot loaders

Because they used angry birds processors. This time they won't.

Overpriced meme

would be cool if it actually had some power

You can build yourself a more powerful RPI "laptop" for less

>ching chong brigade won't lock the bootloader on a baytrail soc
Yeah, right.

Sorry, but I trust German autists more than a couple of chinks and a beaner on kickscammer.

this tbhdesu. Met EvilDragon IRL, he really is as autistic as he looks.

read their comments-section on indiegogo. they said that it would be possible to install l00nix on it.

As much as it is "possible" on all the other cheap as fuck baytrail tablets out there. Just as a reminder: The only distro that kind of worked is now dead and every chance of getting the Wifi, bt, touchscreen, hardware controls, sensors or anything beyond the chip itself (and the display) running is literally zero.

My sides will literally go into orbit when I see all of the dissappointed Linux users and kids who blew their savings on GPD Win. Enjoy your windows 10 plebs.

They didn't name it GPD Win for nothing.

>we know that production only takes ~2 months after park.

You are the manufacturer or an employee?

>literally housefire - the processor
>throttles under average load

>b-but it will be able to emulate gamecube
It's hilarious to read the thread on Dingoonity, really. Meanwhile, the Pyra is going to get between 10-20 hours easily (much like the Pandora, where I got an average of 15 hours of gaming). As much as I loathe ARM for its incompatibility, I wouldn't want the Pyra to have anything else. Also don't forget the support by notaz and Ptitseb

On mobile so no link but check their forums. Once he has about 750 preorders he will order enough parts to make 1000 and from there lead time is ~2 months.

>30% of the screen is toolbars
lmao
did the new get a screen upgrade?

to be perfectly honest, I really really wanted the pyra. but that price is atrocious! even though it has good battery life, it doesn't make up for the price tag.

also..
>literally housefire - the processor

>2W/h

you should try to know what you're talking about before doing it, kid

Economies of scale.

For now, this is a luxury device for people with money to burn.

It's $375 to $450. Really that bad?

Yes. If you don't like the taskbar/window decoration, just get a different WM.
The initial soc choice (z8500) was used in lots of mid-tier chinkman tablets and they all suffered from notorious overheating. Check the reviews. The z8550 is almost identical and unless they invent some new method of heat dispersion, the GDP win is going to be unusable for demanding applications.

I want one but funds are limited and I want to buy more pressing stuff like a height-adjustable desk and a home server first. And an ANSI mech kb perhaps, programming on German keyboard layouts sucks ass.

The Pyra is pretty far down on my list, simply because it's hard to justify especially at that immense price.

I love the project though and hope everything goes well.

That's not the final price, but a down-payment, see

I have two questions for the people linking/wanting to buy the Pyra and bashing the GDP Win:

- Why do you want a full featured (ARM) OS on such a low end hardware?

- Why do you think that having Windows 10 on the GDP is bad?

I think for 700$ they could definitely produce a heat dissipation method for the device, it's not enough excuse to dump it for something 4-8 times less powerful like dual core a15, check passmark for x8500, it's performance equals to core 2 duo e8400

i'm buying both but gpd win does have the better processor and gpu desu. pyra doesnt even have 3d acceleration yet.

This is so magical. I want to play my old NES/SNES/Genesis/N64/Playstation/Dreamcast ROMs on this thing. I mean Steam, I want to play my paid for retro games on this thing.

>$700

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA

wait

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA

Sweet, the Pandora is finally coming out

>it's performance equals to core 2 duo e8400
Do you think that modern cellphone CPUs are better than older desktop CPUs too?

>- Why do you want a full featured (ARM) OS on such a low end hardware?

Hardware doesn't really matter. Noone is going to do rendering or simulation on it. I certainly would not mind if it was faster, but what can you do. Battery life is another huge factor. There's little benefit in twice the performance for half the amount of time.

>- Why do you think that having Windows 10 on the GDP is bad?

I don't think that. In fact, an x86 would be pretty interesting. I simply don't trust the GPD guys to deliver and support a lasting product, let alone provide Linux images or offer help and sources to the community

Whats even the fucking point of this thing ?

Emulators. Anyone saying otherwise is lying.

Yeah that keyboard's there for absolutely no reason at all

This thing was blown the fuck out by the GPD WIN. Sorry, it's dead int he water.

>700 fucking dollars for this thing

I could buy an x220 that smokes this piece of shit for $200. Not to mention the majority of you would use this for emulators, and if its just straight ARM and not x86, a GPD XD for $150 would perform infinitely better than this thing despite running android.

Text adventure games

It's a UMPC, if it was just for muh gaymes it would run Android.

>meme

>$0.05 has been added to your account

Please, tell me what productive things you can do on that other than gaming. I'm all ears.

Games and productivity are the only things you can use a computer for? How are you posting on Sup Forums?

I consider shitposting as doing nothing productive, same category as gaming.

But it's not gaming

Oh, well hot damn..half the price and it'd be a miracle machine, however.

that a case where you should really use Unity or Gnome 3 rather than other DEs
