Hey OP check this video from a good discussion about the GTX1080. They talk about the pricing and expected performance.
----Jump to the 3 minute mark----
twit.tv
thanks, gotta go to bed, but will check it out tomorrow
Pascal is glorified Maxwell on a smaller die and with GDDR5X. Nothing more. It'll be slightly better, but same shit.
The only relevant thing about Pascal is that now Maxwell will be gimped, and Nvidia will sell shitloads of cards on marketing alone, again. That's about it.
I'd hold off on buying any GPU before AMD shows what they have, anyway. Hearing lots of rumors that the first Polaris cards will have 390/390X performance for mid-end prices, so there's no reason not to wait.
>he claims pascal is maxwell
>"The only relevant thing about Maxwell* is that now Maxwell will be gimped.."
>he claims maxwell will be gimped whilst the architecture he claims is the exact same as maxwell will magically not be gimped
Do you have any mental problems by any chance, friend?
not him, but:
Pascal = Maxwell+
Maxwell = will get gimped by drivers
difference between maxwell and pascal will widen a bit, not because pascal is so much better, but because maxwell will get cuck'd
Your dad/uncle works for nvidia by any chance?
the final specs are leaked you fucktard. learn2google
> yes goy we promise it won't happen again
>he claims "Maxwell = will get gimped by drivers
difference between maxwell and pascal will widen a bit, not because pascal is so much better, but because maxwell will get cuck'd"
>simple question put forth to see where this "inside knowledge" comes from
>"t-the specs have been leaked"
>"l-leave me alone, g-go Google something, s-stop making me look like an i-idiot"
I'll just take your previous post as drivel then. You're clearly quite the retard. Good night.
>inside knowledge
nvidia series being gimped after new series launch is not "insider knowledge". it has happened before, and it will happen again. just because you don't know shit, doesn't mean it doesn't happen
Do you have any proof to back up that claim?
Please with modern up to date games and drivers.
You have any solid proof provided in an article by a reputable journalist with facts and figures that Nvidia are gimping their cards to lose performance?
Please, feel free to educate me with these legitimate facts and figures.
Samefagging this hard.
Not who you replied to but:
Quit being asked to be spoon-fed
Shit wrong post. Hate mobile.
Are the baby samefags
LAUGH OUT LOUD
Samefag you say? Or just two people who are laughing at your incapability to provide any legitimate sources for their your sources.
I think the latter personally.

No please, you were in the middle of telling me how nvidia gimp their cards and were just about to provide me with these groundbreaking facts and figures to back your point up. I'm still waiting.
And I thought all the people who were saying Pascal is Maxwell 2.0 were retarded
Guess I was wrong. Does this mean my 970 will have a longer life since its similar in architecture?
Will Nvidia still be able to gimp it like they did Kepler?
I literally said I wasn't the one you were responding to originally. Do some research manchild.
>will nvidia try to maximize profit margins
no, ofc not, no company ever does that, especially jewvidia. all their action are perfectly clean, like you can recall from their past action (recent and back 10+ years). they were the first ones to even include WOODEN SCREWS into the graphics card market, so you know they always inovate
.................................
It's practically impossible to "gimp" the same architecture. If you "gimp" the new cards you're inadvertently "gimping" the older cards as they're basically one and the same. If they are the same then the older cards will actually get longer support as the updates for the newer cards will work on the older cards which is what amd have been doing for 5 years with their rebrands.
We still don't know what Pascal is yet though. This is all speculation. Benchmarks and official in depth analysis will be revealed today.
Can no one provide me sources for nvidia gimping everyone? Are all amd fanboys this incompetent or is everything you've said so far just r/AMD memes?
Same guy as OP posted
>they were the first ones to even include WOODEN SCREWS into the graphics card market
Hey I'm also going to need a source linking me to the *consumer* nvidia graphics cards which had wood screws. I'm sure many people who bought their graphics cards couldn't have missed these wood screws. The must be millions of complaints from consumers about this. I guess it's just my unlucky day. I can't find anything legitimate concerning the points you've put forward.
the only 'gimping' going on are the goyimworks effects that run poorly on AMD hardware, which has more to do with AMD refusing to improve their architecture and releasing rebrands instead.
I can't see how someone who calls amd "the master planners" is a reputable journalist with legitimate facts and figures. I'm still waiting for these killer sources which have shaken the industry to nvidias 'secret plans'.
10/10 quality poster.
GUYS! I did a Google search for these amazing facts about nvidia gimping everyone and....unfortunately got nothing except forum posts :(
Where are my sources???
Literally the only issues people were having was in Witcher 3 with Kepler not performing like it should, and that was fixed with a driver update
So you're telling me it's all a lie regurgitated by a bunch of autists in this thread with mass buyers remorse as a result of buying an inferior brand of GPU?
Of course reviewers and tech websites aren't going to report on that. They don't want to damage their rep and ad revenue from Nvidia
AMD WINS AGAIN
>2016
>buying nvidia
What does all this mean for the 150-200$ range? Is there going to be some significant price drop on the gtx 960 or a cheaper & faster card in a few months or do I just biy a card now?
POO

THE
Or maybe, just maybe, it's because it's not factually correct? Ever thought of that before making these claims?
Like I said to all the other people, feel free to provide me these killer sources from reputable journalists with legitimate facts and figures to prove nvidia are really what you all say they are. I'd be happy to get proved wrong. You live and you, learn as they say
mfw 3 year old cards and their rebrands still beat all of Nvidia's cards below $400. Ass blasted Nvidiots confirmed mad.
You live and you learn, as they say*
The goalposts are on jet engines folks, they're moving at Mach speed.

In no way does the word "cuck" make sense in that sentence. Did Nvidia gets AMD's wife pregnant? No.
I'm interested in the $200 range myself. I'm hoping the new cards lower old prices

do you also require video prof of ncucked cards catching fire?
where you instructed to be on full damage control today? how is that thread cleanup doing? whats the payout like? and lastly do you enjoy being a cuck4pay?
Where's the 1080 reviews. Isn't the embargo over?
anything who can logically process information would understand the meaning of the word now. It now means to be walked over, or to be oblivious to an ulterior motive, ie "cked by the government" means to be oblivious to mass surveillance and saying "i have nothing to hide"
Most embargos don't end at exactly midnight
Let's take a look at the ARKETEXTURE
What time zone then? It's 2pm on the 17th here.
It's a meme word that has absolutely no meaning anymore. I fully understood what OP meant, but the obsession with cuckolding here is fucking insane.
The nvidias classic trope #2: Ad hom
2nd only to pretending Nvidia never does anything shady.
>bed
What are you 12?
Probably Eastern or Pacific in America
It's 11pm on the 16th where I'm sitting
That's just what a cuck would say.
yes it is a meme, they come and go. It was nigger, then faggot, then niggerfaggot, now its cuck.
You're pretty retarded for even posting this.
>post clearly says consumer cards not a reveal card
You're a bit of a retard if you ask me. Lacking that simple reading comprehension. Also see I'm still waiting for the gimp source. Throw it at me bro.
do you also require video proof of amdone cards catching fire?
where you instructed to be on full damage control today? how is that thread cleanup doing? whats the payout like? and lastly do you enjoy being a cuck4pay?
:^)
>what are device ID's?
Its simple, driver detects (say) maxwell and runs whatever path the game specifies and when it detects pascal cards it runs the path Nvidia set in their drivers.
People were flashing 390x bios to 290x cards to see if AMD was doing the same sort of fuckery.
>implying it's this easy
>implying there isn't a high change of this fucking up due to several reasons
>implying it won't be found out straight away by some Russian who decides to do a breakdown of the driver
These things get found out straight away and everyone knows this. They won't dare try anything like this.
Not true, AMD tried to do gimp the 200 series when they released the 300 series but the guys at overclockers had dissected the cards completely down to the bios and called AMD out on it.
But they got found out. Literally what will happen if nvidia try it. You can't get away with anything like this anymore. There are people who will find out asap.
Well the driver blob is absolutely massive and unlike the 200 vs 300 series scenario kepler and maxwell are different enough at a hardware level that simply data mining the driver blob (lol good luck) won't tell you anything.
Its why kepler is dying a painful death - it NEEDS driver optimisation to keep its hardware well fed due to current programming trends and Nvidia isn't bother.
This stuff ALWAYS gets found out eventually. Don't delude yourself into thinking it won't.
This shit is impossible to understand to me at least.
Welcome to Sup Forums you're in good company
what timezone are they talking about for when the reviews release
>Already 17th here and almost 4PM
Rumors on reddit say in 8 hours
Its usually 12pm central USA time.
Nvidia don't actively gimp older cards. They just don't optimise their drivers as well for the older cards. Or only after there has been enough outrage over older Nvidia cards not performing as they should.
>They just don't optimise their drivers as well for the older cards
>not gimping
Stop buying nvidea shit then.
>stop buying the superior hardware and performance for cheaper prices than ayymd
'no'
You must've gotten a whole quarter for that shill pajeet.
Gay ass shill threads are cancer. So, lets consolidate them!
no, I have a job to go to
So for the lamemen like Muh self who is building his first setup since high school I'd like to play games and watch vidya what card should I get for a 1500 usd build.
if you don't want your card to get gimped, buy AMD. wait until may 27 for AMD Polaris 10 cards announcement.
>but nvidia doesn't gimp cards
yes they do: youtube.com
It's hard to call it true gimping when it really only applies to new games or substantial visual update patches.
The reality for Nvidia is that post-Fermi, all their GPUs have very stripped control logic and basically use driver-provided scheduling.
This makes the cards very efficient when the compiled shaders are optimized well and distinctly mediocre when not.
The big problem is that there's apparently a 30%+ delta in performance between hand-tuned precompiled shaders and whatever their driver's JIT compiler craps out.
So the moment a game/patch ships where some engineers couldn't be spared for manual shader optimization, performance falls markedly.
But calling not manually optimizing an older architecture gimping is not quite right, even if it feels that way.
If anything, it's just Steve Jobs-esque bullshit of perpetuating the illusion that their products are magically delicious when in reality it's legions of manpower continually maintaining that impression.
>there's apparently a 30%+ delta
I'm fairly sure that applies to kepler, but I do not know if the delta is so large for maxwell. Equally it would be interesting to see what sort of throughput GCN loses without hand tuning (somehow I suspect less in directx given historically AMD brute forces their software issues with more hardware).
Maxwell is even more stripped down than Kepler, so I would not at all be surprised if the delta for it was at least as large.
Nvidia is treating their newer architectures like Itanium, where they are hyper-dependent on binary optimization targeting in order to save space/power/latency in the chips' schedulers.
GCN may be power thirsty, especially Hawaii with its 2:1 FP32:FP64 (like GP100 will do too), but at least it seems well designed and only get slowly better with time as the long-lived arch gets better shader compiling.
I'm rather fond of AMD's approach to their gpus - they use silicon to get around their shitastic software overhead and for the most part hardware > software all day. Naturally things are more complex than that but historically on an engineering front AMD has left Nvidia in the dust.
Consider the sheer density of hawaii versus big kepler.

Anyway, as always people fall for the hype, the thing is most people dont care and will buy them anyway
>70% faster than it's predecessor
>cucked
So what's amd answer to the 1080? Let alone the 1070?
>yes they do
No they don't
youtube.com
They have none. AMD is done when the GTX 1070 and 1080 comes out.
AMDrones know this. They are in denial.
Yeah, a budget card at 390x performance level really isn't an answer.
Many people looking to upgrade are already at that level of performance, and it would literally be a sidegrade
>nvidia
>paper release
>apple graphs
>rebrand of a rebrand
What's it like to be so far up Huang's ass you can tickle his tonsils?
Jesus christ kid, the card with a incremental performance bump over the previous rebranded Geforce card isn't going to put AMD out of business anymore than the 980 ti did.
>single gpu tying with an sli setup of it's predecessor at 1440p
Oh yeah they sure fucked us over with this kind of performance
You're right, you're wrong about the 1070 though, that will be a serious issue for AMD and they have no answer to it
*1070 is 200% faster than a Titax X Platinum Series Edition.
>gimp 980
>oh look, the 1080 is so fast
>200% faster than a Titax X Platinum Series Edition
>in one particular scenario
i still see no real benchmarks, nigger
>come up with a meme
>no evidence to support the meme
Typical AMDfaggot
youtube.com
calling every hurtful fact a meme won't save you
>GTX 1080 is even more expensive than a gtx 980 ti, since the 1080 will release for 700$
>Has only 20% better fps than a year old card that is cheaper
I think Huang is a pretty cool guy. Eh scams people and doesnt afraid of anything
