rival to mario maker
Second, now that its development has actually continued.
This is now a good FOSS games thread.
Pure autisimo
inb4 wesnoth
What's wrong with it?
...
this shit is so good I can't believe it's FOSS
This, so much.
The only problem: Last time I checked they felt for the 2 tier game engine meme and wrote the bots in JS, causing them to hang from time to time and to rewrite them over and over.
OpenHexagon is literally better than the original
Wesnoth is god-tier
XKobo tho
>the linux pet
>latest version unavailable for Linux
what?
Is it really that good? How's the AI?
>also pic related god tier game
AI works well, it's entertaining and/or hard if you want it
CHECKED
QUINTS CONFIRM
not bad
Openttd
>foss
>complete reimplementation of the original
>bugs fixed
>comprehensive add on system added
this is how free software is done
CONFIRMED GOD TIER GAME
It's fun but I get frustrated so much because when I jump there's always a "gliding" or momentum that makes it really hard to predict where you'll fall.
The "gliding" or "sliding" is also present when you walk, which is understandable because it's ice.
Nethack also godly game
>not playing the FOSS Worms
Probability-based difficulty.
I can agree. This game is fucking great.
Is there a FOSS sim city?
Oh, damn... I might get that for some nostalgia.
0 A.D.
Lincity?
I'm pretty sure simcity later became open source
...
Arx libertatis is pretty great. You have to grab the assets from arx fatalis though
I have tried it a lot and the AI is really predictable.
Depending on the resources and the maximum number of units you set for the game, you can easily defend against them long enough to build an army that they cannot defeat.
The very hard setting means they get a lot more resources than you can, so obviously they become a challenge, but since they don't change tactics based on nation, they are too easy to beat
we installed this on company computers less than a month ago and I think already man-hours lost can be in the hundreds.
>as long as the sprint is delivered, no one cares
gotta love Scrum.
...
what game is this?
Xontic
Xonotic
>'twas in the filename
...
I like it ^.^ I like Mario and generally Mario-like games.
OpenRCT. It's getting there, and it feels pretty seamless compared to the original. AI pathfinding is kinda borky though.
Anyone wanna play Unvanquished?
requires installation of non-free sw though.
plus requires windows :(
I played Tremulous
I played Unvanquished
I want to have fun with these games but I can't.
Shooting the fucking alien spiders is difficult and I don't understand what the fuck you are supposed to do.
Umm... It's kinda like starcraft but an FPS, you gotta build stuff and upgrade
gg painor
How do you git gud building railways?
Lol played so much of this years ago
Sim City has been released as open source but rebranded as Micropolis to protect the Sim City brand. Lincity is a similar game but with different game mechanics. It's really good actually.
anyone?
nexuiz was better
>Super Tux
>Not Secret Maryo Chronicles
Also, I found this DMCA notice from the Entertainment Software Association to Google claiming it infringes their copyright. Apparently, they don't even have to say what it's infringing now! Seriously, fuck the ESA! lumendatabase.org
I find this to be quite entertaining.
>nonfree javascript
>openHexagon
>shows a pentagon
>did I hear some noice?
>some noice?
>noice

We still 1990s?
OpenMorrow or something like that i forget what it's called has surpassed the original morrowind engine
yea, openMW (morrowind). Looks to be working pretty well considering the version, I think I'll try it out today.
You need the files from Morrowind, which you can now buy on GOG without DRM, so that's a plus as well
This is why you never make anything even remotely similar to well established IP.
Website says it's available for Windows, Linux and Mac. You need the original RCT2 but it's not really difficult to find a torrent for it.
Mfw used to be a dev for this game. It was ok I guess but I got bored. It's sadly stagnating and dying with a majority of the cool people leaving and add-ons getting progressively shittier.
>not quake live
stay pleb
>foss
teeworlds is great for LAN parties
hm. running through WINE, you mean?
I haven't actually played it but my understanding is that OpenRCT runs natively on Linux, you just need to extract the game files from the original game.
No it's not. It's an incredibly tedious game that revolves around getting a set of specific items in order to have any reasonable chance at winning. The entire mid and end game is a giant tedious mess.
I tried it about 1 year ago and it was slow as fuck.Unplayable.
>I don't know that Java and JavaScript are completely different things
You must be 18 to post on this website
Where do you even download that? I can only find the remade kobo deluxe version
dcss is way better than nethack really
>tfw just finished 15 rune game
this
Also, ToME
>nonfree java
>any better than nonfree javascript
was just watching a youtube video of ToME, think i'll give it a go
There is now an experimental LAN multiplayer/versus mode in the master branch.
>mfw these old FOSS games seem more interesting than anything that has come out in the last 3 years
>Not Secret Maryo Chronicles
It's dead. A successor/total conversion called TSC with complete own IP is in the makings, but since the code base turned out to be unsustainable, it's up to a complete rewrite and that may take some years.
Do Quake and Doom count as free software because they're under the GPL, or not because they use proprietary assets?
Only problem is not that many people log into the lobby for multiplayer :'(. Seems to lag with larger maps and alot of troupes.
I liked it more before they added that stupid capturing buildings & seige weapons dynamic to the game.
Free software, but not free culture, and won't be found in a free distribution's repositories
Explain!!
Which part? The engine is freedoms-respecting while the art assets are not.
Free culture includes art under license which grants freedoms similar to the criteria for free software. Since these assets aren't freedoms-respecting, they're not free culture.
Free distributions won't have it in their repositories because of this fact. If the entire thing isn't freedoms-respecting, they can't distribute it.
>Maryo
kek
Also the Blender community has made a bunch of games to showcase the blender game engine.
Didn't realize teeworlds is FOSS but yea it's great. Used to play it on the school network a lot.
dcss has gotten me through so many CS lectures, my favorite roguelike by far
it's just proof that memeing freetards and stallman dicksuckers are all underage ;^)
Thank you based toys for Bob for releasing the source for Star Control II so we could have the glorious Ur-Quan Masters ports.
