Tfw when you fell for

Fell for the SSD meme - twice.

Running ubuntu 16.04 from 850 evo with /tmp and /var on a 950 pro.

How'd I do Sup Forums?

Expensive but nice, install gentoo

But why

Why not /(s)bin /usr/bin /lib (/lib64)?
Don't u want fast load times?

Captcha: 950

Don't those faster PCIE M2 SSDs actually slow down boot time because it has to load the driver for for the storage before it can start booting the OS?

I see people not the samsung forum asking why it takes 10-20 seconds longer to boot from the drive in OP's pic versus their regular old SATA SSD.

seems fucking ridiculous imo i'd be pissed.

>2.7A
Holy shit, arent normal hard drives like 1A at most?

that thing gets up to like 60C under full load surprised they don't have to put a heatsink on it

How often are you booting up? I do so maybe once a week at most. The rest of the time I'm logged in on the computer using it where the driver is already loaded and running so I can use that nice 2,100MBs+ speeds

Not a bad idea..
Mostly use it for temporary files for my programs like when I have to work with datasets that don't fit in memory

/tmp should be in tmpfs on RAM, not on a SSD or HD.

>/tmp on an SSD
You've gone full retard. Tmpfs exists for a reason.

Welp. Didn't realize this.

Could someone please explain to me the differences between the Sata and the expansion slot SSDs? It seems the expansion slot ones on avg cost more. Also, if you used an expansion alot ssd would it just stick out from the mobo ir do you use a cable?

In return, OG content of my freshly painted CM Evo 212

M.2 slot is usually parallel to the mobo so it doesn't stick out, they are also smaller and don't throttle because of SATA

the NVMe SSDs are a lot faster than SATA. you put them in parallel to the board.

Thanks

>buy expensive SSD from amazon
>it gets delayed twice, ask for my money back since I was about to travel internationally
>they say they'll give me my money back but still send it again in case it arrives before I travel
>it does

it may be a meme but it's a free meme

the m2 SSDs require no cables but they make then in both "SSD" and "PCIE" formats and the PCIE ones are the faster ones obviously.

also nice paint job, looks nice

i should do something similar, was it hard?

>freshly painted

how'd you do this? looks nice

All i did was slide some printer paper in under the top fin and then bent them down to cover the rest of it. I used tiny strips of blue painter tape to cap off the copper tubes. Then i just spray painted using light misting back and forth.

The fans are the Corsair Quiet edition 120mms value pack. It came with the rings and the color miraculously matched.

Thanks for info and compliments.

When i say, bend them down i mean the printer paper of course. By bending the paper down and taping around it created a printer paper box around the rest of the cooler. Obviously the fans were not attached and this was prebuild before mobo installation.

Normal spray paint?

Rustoleum Painters Touch, Ultra Cover x2, paint+primer, Satin Oasis Blue

Home Depot

You just painted the top fin only, right?

Why don't you run Fedora instead?

Yes, and when combined with two fans it disguises the rest of the unit.

Is the NVM worth it?

I love my 950 Pro but one thing that really grilled my cheese was they don't include a screw to screw it into your laptop.

3.3 volts though dumbass

12 volts at 1amp is 12 fucking watts

3.3 volts at 2.7 amps is like almost 9 watts

Lol, when I actually get to building my thing, I wouldn't be able to get these, even.

I'd already be using all my expansion slots. In fact, I'm already looking at riser cables for the graphics cards...

When you buy a hard drive it doesnt come mounting screws even though most cases need 4 of them.

...

That's a pretty big box.

Just had the same thing happen with an fx-6300 for a bartop arcade build. T-Thanks amazon senpai.

...

A /= W

Watts are the concern not really amps.

with an ssd, 8gb of RAM and the Adobe CS suite over a virtual machine do I need swap on ubuntu?

>not knowing basic electricity

>951
Debating between 951 and 950.. basically the same except 951 can come in 128GB and is supposed to be better for RAID/NAS but is OEM and deosn't have the same warranty.

How's 951 been for you?

lol, 8 GB is tiny in 2016

>need
no

but hard drive space is cheap, might as well

Why not?

tfw haven't fallen for 16 gb

Memes I have fallen for
>dual monitor
>2 HDDs
>mechanical keyboard
>aftermarket cpu cooler
>750w power supply
>USB 3.0
>8gb ram
>ddr3
>windows 7

Is there any hope for me?

Don't fall for 16, just go 32

Well I see you didn't fall for the freetard meme yet so there's hope. Just do NOT fall for the full normie meme and Sup Forums can save you.

What were you eating; looks pretty good.

>>mechanical keyboard
thank christ I didn't fall for this meme, I think I would have had to kill myself out of shame

Just finished buying 2x8GB RAM

I wish there was a side-by-side comparison for a 4GB , 8GB, and 16GB RAM'd computer doing similar shit so i can see the difference. I don't want to waste my money.

I have an old HP mechanical keyboard from the 90's, that has been in constant use for 20 years and still works wonderfully

Literally a 98 cent pizza

so? theres lots of shit from then that works fine

was it good?

It was worth 98 cents.

What OS?
You can just monitor your daily ram usage and see how often you use more than 8

tfw CHAD is eating PIZZA while you SIT AT HOME with 8 GiB ram

lol I'm basically Chad tier.
Pizza and 32 GiB RAM

32GiB ram is the CHAD of Sup Forums. kek
>POORFAGS can program all day on their CHINKPADS, while CHAD just sits around and GAYMES with 32Gib

>How's 951 been for you?
Great. Samsung magician software doesn't work, but I tested it and TRIM works even without it.

I HATE people who eat pizza like that.

faggot didn't even eat the crust

Actually under full load it gets closer to 100C

My laptop has a heatsink where the m.2 drives go :)

>Don't those faster PCIE M2 SSDs actually slow down boot time because it has to load the driver for for the storage before it can start booting the OS?
As opposed to not loading a driver for storage? All storage require drivers.

On a legacy platform there may be a difference, but on a modern platform (e.g. Z170) NVMe loads same time as SATA, as they are both native to the controller.

Just got a samsung 850 evo 250gb a few weeks ago. The only difference I noticed is that it boots up faster

I paid close to 100 dollars just so it can boot up faster

What else did you expect?
Boots faster, applications load faster, longer lifetime.

Won't be long until we have ricer heatsinks on those.

They already make pcie extension cards for m.2 that are supposed to help with the cooling I believe
