what is that. doesn't look like a thinkpad. is this a prototype for a a new line of thinkpads?

Great computer

Enjoy your tiny text and windows.

You are about 35.67% fucked

Not bad

Your chance to meet a nigger is higher now

0% fucked

I'm sorry, but this laptop will not increase your chances of getting laid.

Do you really need 4K on a laptop though?

PC makers are retarded and trying to chase "retina displays". if windows would scale well and manufacturers would just pick a default resolution and scale to 2x (or 3x or whatever), then we could finally stop with this retarded shit.

Keyboard is supposedly not that good compared to other ultrabooks

I've got xps 15 with 1080p. It's pretty neat. Why the 4k? You won't notice the difference on the screen, just battery drains a lot faster.

You will definitely notice the difference I checked them out at best buy before buying one on eBay

It has perfect scaling to 1080p at 200%, some people do 225% and I think stock is like 250%

>290 ppi
>you won't notice

Maybe if you're blind.

If you are lucky and get a fully functional device you will be fine, otherwise you're fucked. Dell's support is known for being shit.

Watch this before you buy:

youtube.com/watch?v=E6-vYP5PaAQ&index=18&list=LLXdXb6nW1Ofk4Dsp_6Y1HtA

Remember, maybe you will pay more for a 15 inch MacBook, but Apple's support is much better and their machines are more solid.

However, if I were you I would wait 2 weeks for the new retina MacBooks Pro's on WWDC, they're probably getting Polaris GPU's.

How is apple any better than dell's on site repair? You even have to leave the basement

>windows
>scaling
pull out.

Then get the 4k display and double the PPI

>225%
>250%
2x scaling from 1080p is fine, but it must be immediately obvious why scaling to 2.25x and 2.5x is stupid.

this is exactly the problem i'm referring to. PC OEMs just take the specs they see on apple products and then blindly charge in as though higher necessarily means better. there's a point of diminishing returns on pixel density, and more importantly you WANT to scale to an integer value. 2x, 3x, (4x,) or 5x. scaling to 2.33x or some shit like that means the OS needs to interpolate, and/or you risk significantly lower visual fidelity if the program/operating system doesn't handle it perfectly (which is still the case even in OS X which is arguably much further along than windows and linux DEs in this regard).

i just want samsung, lenovo, etc... to set a target that's not just defined by "one up apple" but actually objectively a good goal, and go for that.

you just know that apple is going to announce 144Hz refresh rates, cite that as the limit of human perception or some similar horse shit, and then these laptop manufacturers are going to trot out 145Hz screens like this was all their idea all along.

Apple care just works while Dell's warranty is utter shit.

I'm currently using windows on a 4k screen, a 39" tv, and I'm still having problems with windows shit scaling. some things (most things) aren't included in the scaling. its only most windows UI elements that are affected. even on a 39" tv many things still show up super small that cannot be zoomed in without a 3rd party program or windows magnifier.

I bet it would be a nightmare on a 15" display.
its probably a good buy still, i mean just cause windows blows doesn't mean 4k blows

4k is just a normal resolution, ape is the ones with the weird resolutions. Also everything scales find at any 25% increment with the exception of some old windows 7 system menus which is not surprising like device manager.. Any other problem with scaling is because the shitty third party programs can't scale which has nothing to do with dell or Microsoft

4k is stupid why dont get 1080p?

Better colors, better refresh rate, glossy touchscreen

>15"
>4k

For what purpose?

>glossy touchscreen

eww

>macshit
>build quality

Fuck off Pajeet.

nah bruh

Depends on battery life I guess, 6 hours with 4k or 9 hours with 1080p

The bezels are fucking ugly tho

>I'm sorry, but this laptop will not increase your chances of getting laid.
>living through the sex that a girl allows you to provide for her

found the 20 yo beta

The default windows 10 is shit I loaded Enterprise LTSB.
The near 4k display is godly. set scaling to 200% get a 4k desktop wallpaper.

It runs well. It's nice to have a 13" screen in an 11" form.

Don't listen to the casuals, they have never experienced superior PPI before. It's a fine laptop.

>no numpad
Into the trash

>It's nice to have a 13" screen in an 11" form.
Do you get paid extra by DTS Consulting to include that '11" form' remark Pajeet?

I have an amazon basics 11" case I used for my previous chromebook before I upgraded you filthy dirt eating peasant.
It fits in an 11" case and has a 13" screen, that is a fact. You can try to troll harder newfriend.

all this wasted space triggers me, they could've added a numpad

Apple doesn't have a numpad on the 15" Pro, so why should Dell, you stupid faggot?

wow they should have. the xps 13 has much tighter margins on the keyboard.
That empty space looks bad.

Fuck off you stupid appleshill. The XPS 15 is perfectly fine without a trackpad that clutters the design.

underrated

It looks like shit. Take a look at the tighter xps 13 bezel. They should have added a numpad.
Stay mad you poor poor little man without a numpad.

Maybe that extra space allows you to easily rest your meat hooves, and you take it as an offense for things to be tight and functional instead of large and sub-functional like yourself.

I said fuck off, you stupid appleshill. Back to /r/eddit you go to discuss your shitty locked down toys. You piece of fucking shit.

>not resizing windows and increasing font size

newfriend, you have so much to learn.
numpads are for people who actually use computers and don't just play video games and eat cheetos all day.

Wasted space is what we want to avoid, like what you are doing in your chair right now.

keyboard is fucking shit. it was unusable (space bar would double press half the time) up until the bios update a few months ago

>Dell sends someone to you to replace parts / computer
>Apple forced you go to an apple store sometimes 100+ miles away

Just werks.

Apple care is fucking shit. They will charge you $750 to fix a fucking macbook.

It's how repair businesses stay in business.

>sexual pseudo-enlightenment

found the 30 yo wizard

Why the fuck is that keyboard and trackpad floating in the middle of nowhere?

None fucked. It's a great laptop and the GPU fucker with the Skylake iGPU drivers seem to have fixed a few months ago.

I'm thinking about getting one this summer.

Why did you opt for the 4K screen though? It just consumes a lot of battery...

get the Precision 5510 instead. less heat and more powerful gpu for real tasks (not gaymen shit) + better service.

>Apple care

you have to go to a fucking store and wait for a repair date.

>Dell
Call them, they send one who repairs it or picks it up. you can even get a replacement machine.

also Dell Business machines come with 3 yr warranty. Applel only gives you one.

build the foundation pupper

Enjoy your autobrightness

>Remember, maybe you will pay more for a 15 inch MacBook, but Apple's support is much better and their machines are more solid.

Louis Rossman channel on Youtube. Nothing more else to say.

What is scaling?

Read almost any review of the XPS 15 (or 13) witht the 4K display and you'll read about scaling issues.

Num pad wouldn't have fit. At least, not a Dell keyboard w/ numpad. Developing a new keyboard for a single line on a single model of laptops is not only pants on head wasteful, it's an enormous undertaking for something relatively trivial.

If you want so damn badly a numpad buy a separate USB one. You don't need a numpad to do work anyway; unless you're cuck digging into a spread sheet grind for 9 hours a day with no breaks.

a lot of people here use GNU/Linux. The scaling on gnome is pretty damn awesome.

>GNOME
>awesome

yeah, nah

>15"
>4k

That's been resolved within most windows menus. 3rd party applications are a different story but the issues with scaling are pretty minuet.

i talked about display scaling flamefaggot

>no numpad

Still a bitch if the stuff you use for work happens to not scale correctly.

Also, this.

>I'm an old hat
>GNOME 2 or bust you unity loving faggots

Anyone know why the keys near arrow keysin laptops have ghosting problems?
I saw this in nearly 10 laptops of friends.
Doesn't occur on my ps2 keyboard

Edge cases need not apply. There's tools out there to assist with scaling though. Granted it should work out of the box, that's not dell's fault, it's microshits.

It's the app developer's fault. All the APIs are there for flawless scaling in Windows and have been for years now. It's what WPF is for, and UWP makes that even easier as it's almost impossible to make a UWP program that doesn't scale well.

If the app devs are too fucking lazy and talentless to work with the capabilities given to them by MS, that's not MS' problem.

Absolutely, but it's an issue nontheless.

don't do it! 4K monitor may be awesome but usability is fucked up, especially if you run linux: not all DEs support correct DPI scaling

pick the FHD one, you won't regret it

Enjoy no battery

Why would you need a numpad on a laptop?

>fix: use a DE that has good scaling
it's easy

Apple
>Glued in battery
>Soldered RAM
>Name/Fashion Accessory
Dell
>Accessible RAM
>Non-glued battery
>Real PC

Doesn't have the scaling issues that Windows and Linux have on HD displays

>spends 3k on a laptop
>doesnt get a macbook

hope you like pajeet running his shitty hands over it when it eventually breaks

Need some advice for a friend, he needs a laptop now and his budget is 800euros.
Needs to include ssd, some kind of graphics card, at least 8gb of ram and a big enough battery to last him some hours of moderare usage.
Is this even possible?

Get him a used one.

And which one do you recommend?

Does he intend to play gaymes, install gentoo or render stuff on it?

Best consumer grade ultrabook. Only Precision 5510 is slightly better, because of full bios.

>Need some advice for a friend,
That´s what they all say.

Games mostly yes.
>hurr durr gaymers

what games?
Solitaire or GTA V?

that bottom half is just fdhdjfdfh

Probably something in between, probably like lightweight 3D games.

Put GNU/Linux on it already. Windows is for retards.

I have one from work, its a nice machine although the keyboard isnt all that if you do lots of typing. for general office stuff its fine though. screen is very nice

No, they'd never release anything with such a shitty keyboard

I'm considering buying an XPS 15. Is there any reason why I shouldn't? Money isn't really an issue. I'd be using it mostly for email/youtube/netflix while traveling, and the occasional game (think CK2, Stellaris, HoI4, shit like that)

>shilling this fucking hard
It's not even PAID work, you imbecile.
