Which should I get for uni? I just want to write documents and watch YouTube videos, I rarely have more than 5 tabs open in my browser.

Everyone at uni is just saying get a macbook because everything else is shit, but the lenovo 100s seems to get positive reviews.

So which to buy? Ideapad100s, or the base model MacBook Air?

The ideapad is roughly 250aud, and the MacBook is $1400.

Get the Ideapad

So don't give me reviews or text support?
Give me opinions.

Thx, fuckface.

That's what I was thinking too, the macbook didn't seem worth it.

Buy 5 100s, one for each tab
Spend 150aud in something else

The MacBook is objectively a better machine, but it's not >5x better for those use cases

Like it or not, a MacBook because everything is made around them.

Do you want to commit suicide in college? If so, Ideapad.
Do you want to get laid and a gf? MacBook Pro.
It's literally that simple.

buy this
This laptop is good, buy this because I told you to.

I already have a gf and we have sex 2-5 times a week, so that's not an issue.

She doesn't even like Apple products.

the new MacBook was designed for people like you, however idk how you'll feel about the price tag

I have the 100s

it's a great laptop for the money. Doesn't feel as slow as it should, and the battery lasts forever. It can handle about as much tabs as the screen can display.

Only issue is the terrible trackpad. I've tried installing a ton of different drivers etc, but nothing can help it. Can't scroll so you need to use the keyboard for that.

The keyboard is only okay. I have to write a lot of essays, and it's not uncomfortable or anything. But I generally try to use it just for notes, and do the bulk of my typing with a proper mechanical keyboard. The keyboard is flat, so I sometimes prop the back feet of the laptop up on something to give it a bit of an angle which really helps.

The speakers suck, but the screen is decent.

If I had the money to throw away, I'd get the macbook, but the ideapad is really good. Aside from the trackpad, it feels like it should cost a lot more than it does.

>lying on the internet
Why? It won't make your delusion real.

Yea man, the Ideapad will do everything, minus gaming. Macbooks are overpriced as fuck.
Lord you are a faggot, it does not work like it. I have seen plenty of people with Apple computers and they get no girls.

$299 is that in USD?

Are you okay? But seem to have a mental disorder.
Not everyone on Sup Forums lives in their mothers basement bro, some of us go to uni and have social lives.

Chromebook

Honestly if price is an issue get the Ideapad. If you'll only use it for basic uni stuff then you're an idiot for throwing a bunch of money away.

Although if you feel like it's worth it Macbooks are honestly good machines. I have a mid 2013 Air, and it still runs fucking great with superb battery power. But I also have an x201 which I know would do the job just as well.

Not him, but believe it or not, not everyone is a faggot like yourself.

>I have seen plenty of people with Apple computers and they get no girls.
Can we put an end to this meme, pajeet?
And those people have apple. Go to literally any college, the successful ones have apple, the failures have acer or lelnovo.

ye it's usd

>Apple faglord detected

Thinkpad 13
or XPS 13

Calm down pajeet

Macbook is the most popular laptop at uni, but it isn't what gets you laid. You can not be this retarded.

It's not a bad deal, will be roughly 360aud I think. But will I need more than the ideapad? It's only 250aud, and I think I can get it a little cheaper too.

Fuck off you dumb curry apple shill. No one will fall for your false flagging.

Not directly, but anything else is a red flag for women. Feel free to buy your lelnovo, I'll be here when you come crying about it in a year

The keyboard is very good to type on, better than the 100s, the battery is weaker, but to be honest this laptop has an actual SSD inside of it, whereas the 100s has a eMMc thing, which u can't upgrade.
tl;dr spend like 300-400, if you were seriously just browsing web then get the 100s, but it's good to listen to music, web, and skype.
Depends I suppose.

Buy an old e6220 off eBay.

2 pesos have been deposited to your indian defense league account poojeet, continue your hard work and you'll have a nice clean toilet soon

This.
Your a faggot go dig up Steve Jobs and shove his cock up your ass.

Hoo wee that's some spicy curry right there

Problem isn't that I don't have the money, that kind of money comes easy to most people, it's that I don't know if I can justify it. My main focuses are taking notes and having good battery life.

Thinpads are great value, but if the battery life is weaker I'm having second thoughts on that.

I get seven eight hours out of my 100s easily.

If it's just for notes etc, get the ideapad dude, it's a no-brainer

That's pretty awesome actually. My HP barely lasts an hour anymore.

Thanks for that user, 8 hours would be awesome to have.

I don't know, sincerely it depends if you want to install some FOSS Unix system one day on your Ideapad or if you want to stick to Windows.

If you want to stick to Windows, get a MacBook because Windows is basically utter shit. If you plan to install something like FreeBSD or Archlinux get a Thinkpad, it costs 200$ and it's the best laptop I ever used. .

Also, you should really consider learning to use LaTeX, I wouldn't have given my papers in time without that.

If that's all you're doing why the crap would you ever pay that much money for that thing.

Honestly get a chromebook.

newegg.com/Chromebooks/SubCategory/ID-3220?Tpk=chromebook

The ideapad 100s has a horrific display, just a heads up.

i second this, if u literally just browse web i'd go as far as to just buying a tablet even.

I'll just piggyback off this thread. Should I get the Ideapad in OP or should I get a used X220?

>those bezels
Oh Lord. Get a fucking ThinkPad and call it a day.

But he will still use the designated shit street. Toilet is just for pretending to be middle class.

For the first year or two, you definitely want to stay as small, light, and cheap as possible. Gen eds, lectures, maths, etc. don't require a nice laptop and most uni's will have computer labs to use just in case.

You can upscale to something more powerful if your latter coursework/labs demand it. At that time, you will have a better idea of what kind of software you need and what OS is best.

I suggest going for a cheap chromebook or windows laptop. the ideapad you linked looks fine. In two years, you may be looking at a completely different computer market. In some ways its good to procrastinate on major tech purchases as long as possible, time is on the buyer's side.

Highjacking this thread, what's a good CS laptop?
I've seen some x220 sold where I live but I'm not too keen on how trustworthy the sellers are, other options to look out for?

CS student here, I'm using an Asus t100ta, it gets the job done for first year cs student note taking and java programming.

Looking for something to carry me for 4 years actually, preferably

Then pretty much the cheapest laptop with a 1080p display will be what you're after

Cheers mate

No.

If he gets an HP computer it will break after one year or so and that's gonna be horrible.

There are some brands to avoid. Why not an Asus? Anything but not HP or Packard-Bell. Avoid Acer also. 's header includes a guide with several business computers, whose some are cheap and which are built to last.

I still have an old HP pavilion with an AMD cpu and HD3200m GPU.

Still works perfectly fine.

My friend got a $300 HP in late 2014 and it's still working fine. Battery only lasts him like 3 hours though, but in every other way it's still working like it's supposed to.

i use an x201 for this and much more, works well for like $200 aud

I don't trust you.

I don't blame you.

My HP gets hot enough to burn me sometimes, so I have no idea how it's still working.

I used my HP's broken screen for like 6 months, taking notes at university. I'm sure there are images of me somewhere on the Internet. I had bright white vertical bars and I had set my windows to the last two thirds of the low-res screen. Parts were falling from the screen from time to time.

Get the Air, and an external monitor with a real keyboard and mouse.

It's pretty much the setup i had until i built a proper gaming PC and it works pretty well. Consider the 13" too. And check out the refurbished models.

Never dropping my laptop really helped it to not break.

It dropped from like 30cms, come on. My Clevo in its neoprene sleeve felt once, its side striking the bed and spinning when encountering the floor at maximum rotation. I eventually got this Clevo stolen, but it never broke until then.

Let's say I agree with spending half a minimum wage on a new computer, but not with computers that are engineered to break.

I once dropped my Samsung and the corner chipped off the top left corner of the base. Hated that thing, would lag like a motherfucker and there was no access panel.

I5 2420m, gt520m.

Maybe something like a toshiba chromebook 2 would suffice?

get a t61 for 40 bucks like i did and spend the rest on hookers and blow

I have an XPS 13 myself but it is really way too much for OPs use case.

Whatever you do, dont get a macbook air. If you want to go mac go for the 12" macbook or better the rmbp.

You might want an ideapad.
I'm using a MacBook Air for uni, it works marvelous, never lagged. But some of the programs I'm using only exist for Windows, and my MacBook doesn't have the necessary specs to install a Windows vm on it. I'm lucky because I also have an older dell laptop running Windows 8, otherwise I would've been fucked.
So of you don't have any Windows running machine available like I did, you might want an Ideapad.
Unless you can afford a MacBook Pro, which is powerful than an Air.

But other than the fact that I've gotta use a Windows machine from time to time, the MacBook Air does its job very nicely. I did all of my projects on it, watched a bunch of movies, heck I even played a few games on it. It's a good laptop, all right. The battery life is good, it charges fast and the ssd does wonders.

>I just want to write documents and watch YouTube videos
Get a spiral notebook a pen and use your phone to watch you-tube, there..I just saved you $500 bucks.

Lots and lots of motivation.

Do not fail, OP.
